Chapter 48: Chapter 48 Quite Sudden (asking for recommendation tickets, favorites, and investments)

Qiuqiu opened his eyes bewildered, his head spinning a bit.

His little paws pressed against the sand-like ground as he looked around in a daze.

The once blazing fire had almost completely died out, leaving behind a blackened piece of land with only a few sparse flames and curls of smoke. The red sunset, half-hidden behind the abandoned amusement park nearby, spread a layer of glowing red light over the entire park.

From Qiuqiu’s perspective, a silhouette was sitting against the light under the sunset, with a dark scabbard on his legs, propping his cheek with one hand, staring blankly at the sun. The atmosphere lent a desolate feeling to the scene.

Spotting the figure, Qiuqiu’s eyes brightened, and he immediately wanted to reach out his small paws and hug him.

Then his little eyes rolled around, and the corners of his mouth revealed a mischievous smile as if he had thought of some naughty idea.

“Yii~ Cough cough~”

Lost in thought, Shao Zifeng heard this familiar sound and his heart leaped with joy, quickly turning around.

Not far from the center of the explosion, a mound of sand bulged, and a trembling little paw emerged.

Shao Zifeng hurried over and kneeled on the ground to dig through the sand.

Covered in blood, Qiuqiu lay on his back in the sandpit, squinting his eyes, appearing weak. Seeing Shao Zifeng, he shakily stretched out two small paws, seemingly begging to be held, but ultimately due to the severity of his injuries, they fell back on the sand.

Upon seeing this, a mix of joy, fear, hope, and sadness burst forth from Shao Zifeng, and he reached out shaking hands to hold Qiuqiu tightly in his arms, bowing his head to press his face against Qiuqiu’s body, with tears falling on him.

“Qiuqiu, I’m so scared.”

The figure of Shao Zifeng kneeling on the ground trembled, muttering to himself, while the sunset elongated his shadow.

At that moment, Qiuqiu suddenly froze. He lifted his head, staring blankly at the big boy whose half face was bathed in the sunset.

Initially, it was just pretending to act cute to tease Shao Zifeng, but Shao Zifeng’s sudden emotional outburst left it somewhat at a loss.

Sadness, grief, guilt, happiness, a blend of all these emotions…

This was a feeling it had never experienced before. For it, happiness, sadness, anger, fury, they were all simple feelings which it could use to act spoiled and beg for hugs.

It also enjoyed resonating with Shao Zifeng through these emotions.

But at that moment, the onslaught of mixed emotions confused it; even though its heart clearly felt dependant and happy, tears uncontrollably streamed down.

It wrapped its small paws tightly around Shao Zifeng’s neck, its forehead pressed against his cheek, tiny crystal-like eyes dripping with tears.

“Yii~ Waah waah waah~ Woo woo”

Shao Zifeng, who had been terrified that Qiuqiu might die, heard this full-throated crying next to his ear, and was a bit bewildered.

Letting go of Qiuqiu in his arms, he looked at him perplexedly.

Hadn’t he appeared as if he was about to die just moments ago? How could his crying sound so loud?

Stare.

Qiuqiu sat on the ground, continuously wiping away tears with his little paws, slowly feeling the atmosphere turn a bit awkward.

Peeking through the gaps in his paws at Shao Zifeng, he saw Shao Zifeng staring at him unblinkingly.

He felt shy at once.

The awkward atmosphere now mixed with a bit of embarrassment.

Being someone who didn’t quite know how to express his emotions, Shao Zifeng had been unable to control his feelings earlier when he saw Qiuqiu so weak. Now that he saw Qiuqiu lively again, he felt somewhat ashamed.

Seeing Shao Zifeng’s displeased expression, Qiuqiu felt a bit guilty. His little brain whirred, trying to find an excuse to change the subject.

“Yii yii!”

Suddenly, his eyes brightened. He lifted his small paw, pointing at a small wound on his leg, looking defiantly at Shao Zifeng, humming and murmuring as if saying he was hurt.

Shao Zifeng stayed silent, just watching him with a hint of amusement in his eyes.

Qiuqiu was stunned. Did he not care about him anymore? He was even laughing? What should he do?

Three philosophical Qiuqiu questions.

A breeze blew by, making the skin wet with tears feel brisk and chilly.

Qiuqiu, as if realizing something, stiffly lowered his head.

“Yii!!!!”

A heart-wrenching scream echoed through the desolate wilderness.

He… he had gone bald again!

Subway platform elevator.

Shao Zifeng, holding a downhearted Qiuqiu, his lips curved with an irrepressible smile.

“Okay now, Qiuqiu, be good. No matter what you turn into, I will always like you,” Shao Zifeng ultimately could not help but comfort him, casually stroking the bald Qiuqiu, that familiar feeling…

Still so soothing ah~!

“Yii~~”

Qiuqiu weakly replied, turning over in his arms, his small paws clinging tightly to the shirt on his chest, covering his little face, not wanting to deal with him.

Shao Zifeng shook his head, continuing to pet Qiuqiu.

“Ding dong, destination arrived.”

The elevator doors slowly opened, and a wave of familiar sound came flooding in, relaxing Shao Zifeng’s heart.

Qiuqiu, however, stiffened, quickly stopping Shao Zifeng, who was about to step out of the elevator. He climbed onto his travel backpack, skillfully unzipped it, and with a towel roll in his mouth, snuggled back into his arms.

Clumsily unfolded the towel and draped it over his bald body.

He finally breathed a sigh of relief, contented.

Not wanting others to see his bald form, Qiuqiu felt somewhat proud; he was indeed quite clever.

Huh, what is this green Qiuqiu? Curious, Qiuqiu poked the Elemental Egg with his little paws.

Sniffed with his nose and a mysterious blush of satisfaction appeared on his face.

The scent was calmly soothing.

Hmm… suddenly so sleepy.

Let’s call you ‘Tuantu’…zzz

Shao Zifeng watched with amusement as Qiuqiu fell asleep hugging the Elemental Egg and carefully covered him with the towel, roughly guessing what was going on.

Wood element is also called the life element, and globally, the majority of creatures with healing abilities are wood-type pet creatures. Among all pet creatures, those of the fire type receive the best healing. It seems Qiuqiu was passively absorbing some stray wood elements to heal himself.

Thinking of this, he felt a headache coming on; the Elemental Egg could only last a few more days, and seeing the current situation, this period would be drastically shortened.

It seemed he needed to get his hands on the Type VIII wood energy potion as soon as possible.

But how could he retrieve the potion from Luo Feng without leaving any traces or arousing suspicion?

With this question, Shao Zifeng walked towards the reception desk.

The staff member at the reception wasn’t the one who had attended to him last time, but like before, wore a cheerful smile.

“Hello, has my last task been reviewed yet?”

“Hello sir, please provide your number.”

“Please enter your password…”

“Please wait, checking…”

“I’m sorry sir, our task reviewers have all gone on assignments recently. Please wait a few more days,” the receptionist apologized slightly bowing to Shao Zifeng.

Shao Zifeng waved his hand to show it didn’t matter and turned away from the reception.

As he walked towards the trading area, Shao Zifeng kept an expressionless face; he was mulling over the information the receptionist had just shared.

‘Gone on assignments?’

Something felt off. An organization lurking in the shadows, under the jurisdiction of Daxia, could hardly deploy personnel on a large scale for assignments. He pondered it for a long time but came up with no leads.

Shao Zifeng stopped in his tracks, looking at the familiar “Dragon Spring Swords” shop and smiled slightly.

He entered.

“Report to Director Luo, the person isn’t dead yet.”

In the suburbs of Su City, as the sunset gradually vanished and a crescent moon rose, Luo Feng stood on the edge of a sandy pit, the evening breeze making his white coat flutter slightly, as he looked with disdain at the floating ash in the air, frowning slightly.

Next to him stood a man in black, whom Shao Zifeng would have found familiar had he been there, as it was similar to what he had seen in a video dealing with a rat plague.

Several other men in black scattered around, searching for something.

Removing an N95 from his pocket, Luo Feng adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses with his pale fingers and said, “Continue.”

“Yes!”

The man in black bowed slightly.

“This person’s identification has been burned, and other than a severely burned cell phone, there’s no other proof of identity. But from the not yet completely incinerated uniform, this person is likely Li Hanying from the Abnormal Administration Bureau, who wasn’t present at the capture scene.”

The man in black looked up at Luo Feng, and seeing no reaction, continued, “We’ve done a simple test on the suspected Li Hanying. Apart from weak vital signs, his body has severe burns over ninety percent, with his face, chest, abdomen, and lower body being superficially carbonized since he was lying on the ground.”

Thinking of what he had seen of Li Hanying, the man in black involuntarily tensed.

“Continue.” Luo Feng seemed unaffected; he just wanted to leave this cursed place quickly. The floating ash was the archenemy of his white coat, and the thought of it turning into a spotted coat made him uncomfortable.

“Yes, our instruments show that he has suffered significant mental damage. He must have lost at least five or more pet creatures in a short time to sustain such mental trauma. Additionally, this mental trauma combined with severe physical injuries means that even if he survives, he’s unlikely to ever wake up.”

“Finally, after searching the scene, other than limbs of the usual pet creatures used by that organization, no other bodies were found. We have reason to suspect…”

“Enough, send the person for medical treatment, take the phone to the tech dept for data extraction, seal off the scene, and leave the rest to the Abnormal Administration Bureau,” Luo Feng cut off the man without letting him finish speaking, swiftly made arrangements, and then turned to walk towards the trailer.

After all, having a mole planted is not a glorious matter for any department.

Once inside the trailer, Luo Feng pulled a brand-new white coat from the storage closet under the back seat, relieved only slightly. Then, disdainfully holding the spotted coat with two fingers, he tossed it out the window.

He tidied his wind-mussed hair with his hands.

Huh, so dirty, so disdainful.

He wished he could change his head too.

After a flurry of tidying up, Luo Feng checked himself in the mirror, nodded with satisfaction at his impeccably neat appearance, and sat back, relaxed in his seat, chin propped on his hands, gazing out at Su City’s brightly lit night scene immersed in thought.

An unknown spider pet creature with the strength of a fourth-order torn in two—what kind of pet creature could have done this?

In his experience, he had never considered it could be human-made, because even the renowned pet creature swordsman, the Chinese Fast Blade Mantis, could hardly slash out a several hundred meters long sword mark, and it wasn’t a fire attribute either.

Luo Feng sat in the trailer, rubbing his forehead with a headache, a seemingly gigantic criminal organization, an unknown yet powerful pet creature. It seemed his peaceful days were over.

But, even if just for that brightly lit night scene, he must not slack off.

Looking at the night view of Su City, Luo Feng’s face showed a touch of pride.

This was the city he protected.
