Chapter 45 - 45 Split-eyed Demon Spider (Update Adjustment)
Chapter 45: Chapter 45 Split-eyed Demon Spider (Update Adjustment)
“Boom~”
“Hiss!”
A dazzling fireball exploded in mid-air, engulfing the Blood-sucking Tarantula.
A violent gust assaulted them, overpowering the blazing flames. The four Blood-sucking Tarantulas, due to their massive size, were pressed to the ground, emitting uneasy shrieks. Their fur, which had been scorched, turned to flying ash and vanished, leaving them looking rather bare.
Shao Zifeng and Li Hanying’s skin wrinkled from the wind, and they couldn’t help but retreat a few steps to stabilize themselves as they watched the dazzling fireball in the sky, horror evident on their faces.
Although Qiuqiu was also a third-tier pet beast, its burst of power far exceeded the Blood-sucking Tarantulas of the same tier.
Shao Zifeng could hardly believe it — was this still the shy, timid Qiuqiu from before?
“Ying!”
The wind pressure gradually dissipated, and pieces of charred, shattered exoskeletons, still aflame, fell to the ground.
Qiuqiu, enveloped in strands of flowing flames, flipped over and landed in front of Shao Zifeng. His Scale Armor, turned inside out and cracked, evoked a pang of heartache in Shao Zifeng as the blood on it had already dried up.
Gasping heavily, its front paws softened, and it nearly fell, causing Shao Zifeng’s heart to tighten once again.
Feeling Shao Zifeng’s concern, it turned back and gave him a reassuring look.
“Are you still okay, Qiuqiu?”
“Ying ying!” Qiuqiu, with its body slightly bent, radiated intense fighting spirit — the ’empathy’ ability was indeed about emotional influence.
Infected by Qiuqiu’s spirit and looking over the fire-ravaged field, steely determination and youthful fervor surged within Shao Zifeng.
“Then let us battle!!” Shao Zifeng, uncharacteristically, yelled with a somewhat adolescent tone!
“Ying!” Qiuqiu cocked its head to look at Shao Zifeng and happily nodded its head.
Digging its claws into the ground, it lowered its body slightly. Wild fire elements leaked from the crevices of its Scale Armor, as if donning it with a magnificent battle garb.
“Ying ying ao!” Qiuqiu thrust its strong hind legs against the ground, shooting forth like an arrow released from a bow, trailed by long ribbons of flames.
“Whoosh—”
The sound of slicing through the air followed.
The overwhelmed Blood-sucking Tarantula couldn’t react in time and was slashed open by Qiuqiu’s flaming claws, tearing a long gash across its body.
“Hiss! Squeak!!”
Black-green bodily fluids instantly surged out, and under the relentless erosion of fire elements, they evaporated instantly, emitting puffs of foul, black smoke. It shrieked, madly stabbing with its forelimbs.
Fortunately, its massive body wasn’t for naught; although the wound was excruciating, it was not fatal.
Seeing its companion injured, the nearest Blood-sucking Tarantula quickly thrust its forelimbs together, flashing a white light, and swiftly struck at Qiuqiu.
Just about to land, Qiuqiu realized it was under attack and quickly flipped over. Its long tail pressed down hard on the ground, using the force to leap up.
“Hiss…squeak…hiss hiss!”
The attacking Blood-sucking Tarantula stabbed into empty space and pierced the ground with its forelimbs. Driven by inertia, its body collapsed onto the searing ground amidst billowing dust, and its forelimbs snapped with a “crack”.
The severe burns combined with the broken forelimbs made it howl and twitch in pain.
Just then, intense fire elemental fluctuations cascaded down from above, it hurriedly looked up, and what entered its eight eyes was a mysterious Array.
Qiuqiu gave it a taunting look, flashing a devilish smile… well, whatever that’s supposed to mean.
“Boom”
A massive column of fire twisted like a fire tornado, roaring out from the center of the Array, engulfing the fear-stricken Blood-sucking Tarantula.
“Ah!! No…unforgivable, all of you attack together! Kill them!!” As the environment became hotter and after losing two pet beasts in a row, Li Hanying, who had somewhat recovered, was hurt once again.
The thrice death of his pet beasts dealt him a blow akin to a thunderclap, like a Purple Gold Hammer striking his head and causing a collapse—uh, mixed metaphors there.
He staggered back a few steps, relying on the Blood-sucking Tarantula standing beside him to prevent falling, as two lines of crimson blood slowly leaked from his nostrils and dropped onto the scorching ground, instantly evaporating into black-red stains.
The remaining two Blood-sucking Tarantulas also dared not act rashly, slowly retreating back to Li Hanying’s side, keeping a vigilant eye on Qiuqiu.
“Huff huff~”
Back on the ground again, Qiuqiu’s panting intensified, the fire elements around it dimmed, and it occasionally shook its small head, striving to remain conscious.
“Qiuqiu!”
Seeing this, Shao Zifeng hurriedly ran to Qiuqiu’s side, embracing it with one arm while searching his bag with the other for healing medicine.
“Ying~”
Qiuqiu gave a soft cry, releasing a wave that quickly contracted the surrounding flames into a ring, protecting the two of them.
Then, with a hint of coquetry, it nuzzled its head against Shao Zifeng’s chest. Despite the pain and exhaustion covering its body, it felt incredibly happy, its eyes tenderly looking at the worried Shao Zifeng, wearing a smile.
“Quickly drink the energy potion.” Shao Zifeng, frantic, pulled out two energy potions and tried to feed them to Qiuqiu.
Qiuqiu, sensing the smell of the energy potion, brightened up and quickly shook its head, extending its elongated small paws, grabbed a potion with each paw, and poured them into its mouth as if fearing someone would take them away.
“Ying…burp”
Qiuqiu belched, emitting a puff of black smoke, its cheeks stained with a mysterious blush, happily lying against Shao Zifeng’s chest, making ying ying sounds intermixed with burps.
Shao Zifeng helplessly rubbed its small head; the feel, truly prickly to touch. Bald Qiuqiu seemed more adorable indeed, though thinking this, his lips still couldn’t help but curve into a smile.
Opening the pet beast healing medicine, Shao Zifeng carefully applied it to Qiuqiu’s wounds.
The surrounding flames continued to spread, the ground was so scorched that it became twisted and cracked, but this did not affect Shao Zifeng… He even felt somewhat comfortable holding Qiuqiu?
This was not because Qiuqiu’s innate abilities were powerful enough to create a fiery hell on earth—at least it couldn’t yet. It was mainly due to the geographical advantage formed by the dried grass here.
…
“Hiss”
“Ah”
Licked by a flame, Li Hanying screamed as he woke from his stupor. Several blood-sucking tarantulas paced anxiously beside him, the environment here being too harsh for these arthropods.
Shaking his dizzy head, a blurry scene of red slowly came into focus, the surroundings still resembling hell, the continuous high temperature further weakening his already frustrated spirits.
Seeing a person and a pet nestled inside a ring of fire in the distance, Li Hanying felt like he was nearly falling apart. Veins popping on his pale face, he gritted his teeth and pulled six syringes from his pocket.
“Since you’re so close, go to hell together!” Li Hanying recklessly injected the syringes into the bodies of the blood-sucking tarantulas, filling them with an unknown blood-red liquid.
“Hiss!!!”
The three blood-sucking tarantulas roared in unison, protrusions emerging all over their bodies, constantly shifting up and down, stimulating their bodies.
“Clang!”
The first tarantula to be injected had its eight eyes glow with a crazed blood-red color. Its body swelled, growing more than twice its original size, as tall as a small building.
One of its forelimbs raised high, black and bulging with vein-like twists, then the entire limb grew even thicker, soon all eight of its claws transformed similarly.
That wasn’t all; its back suddenly split open, sprouting several tumor-like growths, each embedded with a grayish-white eyeball that crazily moved up and down, as if surveying the world.
Its mouthparts, flanked by rows of sharp fangs, dribbled thick, foul-smelling saliva that sizzled as it dropped.
“Squeak, squeak, squeak~”
The shrill screech, like cat claws on glass, displaced much of the flame, clearing a vast area.
With a twisted face, Li Hanying, satisfied with the three hideous spiders, broke into a mad laugh, “Hahaha! Yes, that’s it! That’s it, kill them for me!”
Hearing Li Hanying’s voice, the three gigantic spiders lowered their heads, their cold spider eyes devoid of any emotion, filled only with an endless desire for slaughter and destruction.
A chill ran through Li Hanying’s heart, a bad premonition setting in as he involuntarily stepped back, thinking to himself, ‘As expected, the organization mentioned that these syringes have uncontrollable effects, use them cautiously.’
At that moment, the central blood-sucking tarantula slowly lowered its body to meet his gaze.
Initially timid, Li Hanying was delighted at this sight. Did it still remember him? He couldn’t help but step forward, reaching out to touch the ugly head of the tarantula.
“Squeak!”
Before his hand could touch it, the tarantula suddenly opened its mouthparts and shrieked at his face.
The glass-shattering scream erupted close by, the foul breath mixed with saliva assaulting Li Hanying’s soul, freezing him on the spot.
Looking at Li Hanying, covered in sticky saliva, the tarantula gave him a contemptuous glance and lightly shifted its claw, knocking him several meters away.
Li Hanying tumbled on the ground a few times and lay motionless as a sizzling noise filled the air, and a burnt smell spread. He let out a pained groan.
The massive spider stood up and, along with its counterparts, turned its gaze toward the person and pet within the distant ring of fire, twenty-four eyes shimmering with intense killing intent.
…
Since the moment the three blood-sucking tarantulas began to mutate, Shao Zifeng had been paying attention to the situation, but the flames obstructed his view, making it difficult to see clearly.
Picking up the now much heavier Qiuqiu, Shao Zifeng stood up, gazing at the three huge and ugly spiders.
He couldn’t help but inhale a breath of ‘hot’ air.
They were really ugly.
Focusing his attention to observe closely, several blue lights began to spin in his peripheral vision. Suddenly, the blue lights no longer rotated around a circle but crazily intersected each other; this was the first time such a phenomenon had occurred.
After a longer wait than usual, a light blue screen glowing with a red light appeared in front of him.
