Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Welcome to The Team
Haru stepped into the main training area of the Young Justice headquarters, the cool metallic scent of the room mingling with the faint hum of machinery.
His heart raced with a mixture of excitement and uncertainty.
This was it—his official introduction to the team. The team that had already proven themselves as some of the world's best young heroes.
Would they accept him? Would he be able to control his powers enough to contribute?
The room was alive with activity.
Robin was doing quick drills with Aqualad, Kid Flash was bouncing around, clearly bored, Artemis was leaning against a wall, her eyes sharp and focused, while super boy and miss martian aren't around.
As soon as Haru entered, Kid Flash's gaze shot toward him. "Hey, you are the one who turned into that red haird sexy witch aren't you?" Kid Flash grinned, clearly amused.
Haru froze. "witch?" he muttered, trying to recall what Kid Flash was talking about. Then it clicked. It wasn't a witch, not really. It was the transformation from earlier, the one he had no control over. The one that he realy dide't want to talk about right now.
He hadn't meant for it to happen, but it had, and now Kid Flash was teasing him about it.
"She… wasn't a witch...I think?" Haru stammered, his face flushing with embarrassment.
"Sure, sure," Kid Flash teased, "but whatever it was, it was cool. Flashy, too. He winked, then zoomed off before Haru could respond.
Haru stared after him, a little flustered but also grateful that Kid Flash was being lighthearted about it. Still, it didn't change the fact that his power was unpredictable. He had to control it.
"Alright, Haru," came the voice of Black Canary, breaking him from his thoughts. She walked over to him, her expression warm yet serious. "Let's see what you can do. You'll train with me today."
Haru nodded, swallowing his nerves. He knew Black Canary was one of the best, so this was his chance to learn to control the unpredictable power inside him. "What do I need to do?" he asked.
"You'll be focusing on control," Black Canary said. "I've seen some of your abilities, but it's clear you don't have full mastery over them. I'll help you with that."
She gestured to an open space in the training room. "Take your position, and focus on your transformation abilities. Try to control which form you turn into this time."
Haru stood in the center of the room, trying to calm his racing heart. He could feel the power inside him, swirling like a storm ready to break loose. He had to focus. He had to learn how to direct it.
His hands began to glow faintly, a soft, blue light pulsing around his fingers. He closed his eyes, trying to remember the sensation from before—the time when he had transformed, even if it was random. He had to make it happen again, but this time, he had to control it.
For a moment, nothing happened. Then, without warning, Haru's body began to shrink. His legs shortened, his clothes seemed to swallow him, and his face became rounder, more childlike.
His reflection in the mirrored wall revealed a small, 8-year-old boy—golden scarf fluttering gently behind him. It was the form of Voyager, a Servant he had never intended to summon, but one that had chosen him nonetheless.
Haru blinked in surprise, staring down at his small hands. This wasn't what he had intended. "W-wait, no! I didn't mean to—" His voice was a soft, high-pitched version of his own.
The sound of laughter interrupted him. Haru turned to see Kid Flash, his face stretched in a grin from ear to ear. "Whoa! You're a little kid now! That's gotta be the cutest thing I've ever seen!"
Haru's face turned bright red. This wasn't just a power he couldn't control—it was humiliating! His small body was practically useless in this form. He could barely move in the oversized clothes, and the world around him seemed so much bigger.
He looked up at Black Canary, but she just nodded. "It's okay, Haru. This is part of the process. We'll figure out how to control this."
His frustration bubbled up, his hands tightening into fists. He had to fix this. He had to focus and regain control. With every ounce of willpower, he concentrated harder.
But to no avail.
"Okay, I can't help it. That was adorable," Kid Flash said, still chuckling. "You should try that on a mission. It'll catch the bad guys off guard!"
Haru shot him a glare, but the teasing didn't last long. He clenched his fists, focusing again. This time, he ignored the laughter and the playful remarks. He had to get it right. He had to prove to himself that he wasn't just some random kid with powers he couldn't control.
Slowly, Haru focused on the next step. Voyager's powers. Voyager's abilities were connected to the vastness of space, the stars themselves. Powers like Swingby, the ability to maneuver through space by manipulating kinetic energy, and Voyager of the Stars, which allowed for seemingly impossible feats, were at his fingertips.
The energy around him started to crackle. Haru focused on the sense of weightlessness, the freedom of space, and the glimmering stars. For a moment, his vision blurred, and he could almost see the stars themselves beckoning him, the universe sprawling before him.
But his control faltered again. The light faded, and Haru stumbled, catching himself just before he fell.
He shook his head in frustration, his face set with determination. This wasn't enough. He needed more. He had to master this.
After a few strained moments, his form shifted back to normal. Haru let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, but the embarrassment lingered.
In the quiet of his own mind, Haru made a vow.
I will control this. No matter what. I won't let my powers control me. I'll make sure of it.
With that promise in his heart, Haru stood up straighter, his resolve stronger than ever. He wasn't done yet. Not by a long shot.
