Chapter 6: Chapter 6. Anticipation of a Great Event
After closing the door to the room, Inko was cleaning the kitchen and living room after playing with Izuku. She wondered what quirk her son would inherit, as he was doing everything possible to become a hero. But it was very dangerous for his health, as being a hero comes with risks. Every day, you become a target for villains, and it's not guaranteed that you'll survive until tomorrow. The only thing that scared her was that his heroic career might affect his personal life and his relationships with his mother and father. In the future, he would have his own family and children to raise, but would he have enough time and energy for such a challenging task? The life of a hero is full of adventures and good pay, but do heroes live to old age? More often than not, they do not—only a few retire, spending the last moments of their lives in solitude. Inko feared that Izuku would be left without friends, support, and love. Consumed by his work as a hero, he might stop paying attention to his surroundings and eventually become an outcast. After all, who needs a hero-injured with a powerful quirk when there's a new hero who graduated from hero school and is taking the first decisive steps in their career? This was the dark side of whimsical heroism: everything looks very bright and spectacular, heroes defeat villains with their vivid quirks, sometimes saving people from accidents while delivering heroic lines in their flashy costumes. But no one pays attention to loneliness, ruined personal lives, and health risks. This terrified Inko. What if her son repeated the fate of many such heroes? After all, her son deserved better. She had seen how he lit up with happiness when heroes were shown on screens, memorizing their moves and filling his notebook. But "Is he worthy?" — for such a dangerous job? With such outstanding intelligence, he could become the best in another profession, saving as many people as whimsical heroes.
*Brrrrr*
Inko's phone vibrated for the second time. She had become so immersed in her thoughts that she stopped paying attention to the world around her. As she approached the table, she hoped that Hisashi would say the cherished words: "Inko, I'm coming back. Wait for me and Izuku at home; I'll be there in an hour." But to her surprise, instead of her husband, it was her childhood friend, Mitsuki Bakugo, calling, who was saved in her contacts as "Explosive Wheat." Taking the phone in her hands, she picked it up and held it to her ear.
— Hello, Inko Midoriya speaking, — she replied in a tender tone, which elicited giggles and laughter from the other end.
— Hey, friend, how are you? — Mitsuki responded, as usual, in a cheerful and playful tone, ignoring the overly formal greeting with her best friend.
Mitsuki glanced at the clock; it was quite late — 11:17 PM. Many residents of Japan go to bed much earlier.
— Stop being so formal, Inko! We're not strangers; we've known each other since childhood, — after waiting for a brief pause and taking a deep breath, she continued. — Oh, sorry for calling so late; I just wanted to talk to you.
— Is everything alright? I haven't heard words like that since you fell in love with Masaru. — Inko was concerned that her friend wanted to speak in such a serious tone. She was bold but a caring woman who would do anything for her loved ones. Many people think that her aggressive and loud nature vents her anger on those close to her, but in reality, that's how she expressed her concern and care, albeit in her own way.
— Haha, you've fallen for that trick more than once, Inko. You're very trusting and, to a scary degree, honest, and I find that trait extremely appealing. — The atmosphere over the phone was filled with joy, as if two friends had reunited after a long separation.
— Oh, come on, Mitsuki, stop flattering me! — At her words, Inko began to blush and stutter, looking very cute from the side.
— Alright, but how are you doing? How is Izuku feeling? — Mitsuki asked, intentionally avoiding the topic of Hisashi Midoriya.
— Everything is great! Half an hour ago, I put Izuku to bed because tomorrow we're going to get tests for his quirk. You wouldn't believe how he lit up with happiness, running around the house and pretending to be All Might! — Finishing her sentence, she exhaled the air from her lungs, taking a brief pause. — As for me, everything is fine, and I feel like the happiest woman in the world with my son. What about Katsuki and your modeling agency? I heard things are going really well.
— Yes, things are going well. There are, of course, a couple of issues I want to talk about. First, half of our equipment broke down due to an energy pulse emitted by one of the heroes during a battle with a villain near our agency. But it all worked out — the hero agency paid compensation for the damages. If it weren't for Masaru, I would have blown up the office! — By the end of her sentence, a gentle laugh escaped Inko, who covered her mouth with the back of her hand.
— Mitsuki, if it weren't for Masaru in your life, you would have blown up every passerby! Hihi!
— Second, I was showcasing a dress and a collectible clothing set that costs quite a bit, and one of the visitors, who was an "old fart," can you imagine, offered me money to buy me on the modeling stage. — Inko was shocked by this news. She knew her friend's figure was beautiful, but she wasn't a woman of easy virtue; she had a husband and a son. But her thoughts were interrupted by Mitsuki's next words.
— I couldn't hold back and wanted to scream that I'm not a cheap prostitute and that he could shove his money where the sun doesn't shine, a fat hairy man! But so I wouldn't ruin my image, Masaru stepped in for me, stopping the photoshoot. He grabbed him by the scruff and threw him out the door, having a man-to-man talk with him. — Inko was proud that her friend hadn't made a mistake in choosing her partner.
— Oh, if only you could see how he punched that fat face! It was incredible! Masaru behaves quietly and calmly, so many think that the head of the family is me, but the real wolf in sheep's clothing is him.
— As for Katsuki, that piece of aggressive wool recently awakened his quirk, which took the best from both of ours. He blew up half the furniture in the house, and for that, he had to be scolded, but can you imagine? He started screaming, "How quickly kids grow up, oh my God!" — Mitsuki said, holding the back of her hand to her forehead.
— Now he has a dream of becoming as strong as All Might, or even better. Oh, these kids with their heroes! — Mitsuki sighed heavily, waiting for Inko's response, which didn't take long.
— It's actually wonderful that children have dreams. They're kids; they'll have time to rethink their lives and dreams, so don't take it too seriously, — Inko said cheerfully, as she was just as excited as Izuku for the next day.
— Yes, you're right, friend; I have no arguments against your words. — Ending the sentence, she dramatically yawned, indicating that she was very tired and wanted to sleep.
— I think we'll wrap up for today, and tomorrow we'll talk about what quirk Izuku inherited. Goodnight, Inko.
— Yes, goodnight; I'm sending you hugs.
After ending the call, she lay on the couch with her green hair spread out. Her eyes slowly closed, and instead of the ceiling, there was already darkness, enveloping her and pulling her into the realm of Morpheus.
**The Next Day**
At the entrance to the doctor's office sat two figures: a green-haired boy holding an All Might figurine and an adult woman with long hair and a stunning figure. While waiting for their turn, Izuku could hardly sit still, complaining that they had been waiting too long and continuing to say how boring it was, and that he had pictured it differently.
— Mrs. Midoriya, please come in, and you too, young man, — replied in a friendly tone a middle-aged man with a heteromorphic quirk. His head resembled a toy dinosaur of a brown color. Many children paid attention to his head, and due to his unique appearance, he became a favorite among children, including Izuku. As they entered the office, he smiled, looking at his interesting face.
— Please take a seat; we will conduct a quirk test now. This will take a maximum of fifteen minutes, so it won't take up too much of your time, — he said in a calming tone, which brought Izuku back to his previous state of euphoria, knowing that he would soon receive a quirk and become a hero.
"This great day I will never forget. It will be the best day of my life. Hold on, All Might! If I don't become your successor, then I will be the one who surpasses you!" — Izuku burned with anticipation; no, he wanted to explode with excitement. Indeed, this day would be the greatest triumph of his life.
