Chapter 11: You are not worth me!
Nathaniel was released on the quest of Zephyrine but he was in complete shock. The day was still young and he still had time to communicate with Eleanor before the day ran out. How would he tell his mother that he has to get married to Eleanor?
Nathaniel knew that his mother was aware of his feelings towards Eleanor but she would never agree to their marriage. He knew his mother well enough, the only option she would give him was to keep her as his mistress. But would Eleanor be willing to be his mistress? Either way, he has to marry her.
He flagged a cab, which took him to a restaurant near the Cloutier Manor. He made a call to Eleanor, and I'm a few minutes, she arrived at the restaurant with a peaceful smile gracing her lips.
Nathaniel was drawn to her charm again, but what was in front of him was too heavy for him to think of spending any extra moment with her.
Eleanor sat down and stared at him waiting for him to speak. But she noticed something weird in his behavior, he was looking somehow pale and like he was struggling to make a decision. She held his hand that was placed on the table. "Nathaniel, is anything wrong?"
Nathaniel glanced at their hand before deciding to detach their hands. "Let's get married." He said authoritatively.
Eleanor paused for a few seconds before she burst into an uproar of mockery and laughter. What is wrong with you? Marriage? " Why did you say that? The last time I remembered you said I was not in your league and you wanted Zephyrine, remember?"
Nathaniel's face turned blue from embarrassment, does he have to admit to it or just brush it over with some sweet words. That would be the appropriate thing to do.
Eleanor folded her arm around her chest and watched as Nathaniel tried to form words. She looked quite determined not to fall for his sweet words this time around. Her mother already has a plan for her future, so she can't spend her life with a useless person like her. She already knew that she didn't have the right to the property, so the man she would marry had to be rich enough to take care of her and leave something for her unborn kids.
After minutes of silence, he was able to choose from many of the choices in his head. His scorned face turned to a pleased happy face. His tone and the way he communicated with her changed as well. "I'm sure you are not pleased with the way I said it. But I want you to know how much I love you. So what should I do to prove that I love you?"
"Break up with me, I don't want to be your wife!" Nathaniel's eyes popped out of his socket hearing her words. Was he imagining it? Why did everything around him change all of a sudden? It was like his life was turning from bad to worse.
If he didn't get married to Eleanor, he couldn't imagine how his life would turn out. Like his father?
Nathaniel panicked thinking of the situation in his head, "Eleanor, what are you saying? Sure that you are not settled. I will text you when I've come up with a proper proposal plan. That's what you want?"
Eleanor couldn't control herself from rolling her eyes. Were her words too big to understand? She had never thought of Nathaniel as a fool until this moment. Seems like she had to use the word she has been avoiding using.
"You are not worth me!" Eleanor raised her voice so that he would hear her clearly. Her voice was laced with a hint of impatience and displeasure.
Nathaniel's expression had turned unreadable, he was embarrassed that Eleanor raised his voice at him. He had never regretted it, but now he regretted ever dating a woman like her. She had always been her mother's puppet.
Nathaniel's pupils dilated trying to think of a way out. The only solution to the problem at hand is that he had to force her to comply with him. He couldn't bear the risk of revealing the stakes to her. Her mouth was losed.
Eleanor, seeing that the discussion was over, was about to stand up. She had a plan today already but she had to cancel it at the last moment because of the call she received from him.
"Don't you dare stand up," Nathaniel barked with a darkened face. He couldn't bear the embarrassment anymore. If not for the situation at hand he would never have thought of marrying her. She was always at his feet begging to be in his bed but now she had the effrontery to speak to him rudely.
Eleanor was not scared, instead, she scowled. She had never been afraid of anyone, she would never have dated Nathaniel also if not because of what she wanted to get. She wanted to defeat Zephyrine by taking over her belonging but now that she is married, he is of no use to him anymore. So the best thing to do would be to dump him.
They both knew for a fact that they had been using themselves even though there were little feelings attached to it. But it was what they were looking for that they were after.
Eleanor pointed at him, her hand almost entering his eyes. "Don't you speak to me like that, you don't belong to my class. Your Roy family does not compare a finger to my Huang family, so be watchful of how you speak."
Nathaniel was completely stunned, his mind was disturbed. With this attitude of Eleanor, she would never agree to it.
Eleanor didn't want to spend another minute in front of the fool. She stood up elegantly and walked away from the seat.
"I will come back for you, trust me," Nathaniel threatened with a plan in mind.
