Chapter 142
Labyrinth Day 73.
I stopped by the Desert Town to check on the interior construction status once again.
Pururu – The town is buzzing with energy!
Mysticism – Thanks to the cats!
Mirstin – It looks quite convincing now.
Yumi – But they haven’t even started the cat houses’ renovations yet.
Rize Nova – They’re low priority.
Boglebogle – The cats are scheduled for last.
The houses of the late-joining cats were of lower priority. Hence, they still hadn’t received any renovations.
But!
The monsters that had joined the town earlier were prioritized, so their houses were completed today.
“Shall we start with the house in the center?”
First, I decided to inspect the interior of the Pharaoh Devil and Anubis Dragon’s house.
By the way, the two decided to live together. It meant they were cohabiting.
Yumi – I can’t wait to see how they decorated their house.
Pururu – Let’s open it!
Mysticism – Drumroll!
I pushed open the wooden door and entered their home. The interior showcased a natural aesthetic that complemented the wooden exterior.
In the center of the living room sat a softly curved couch, with a gently patterned wooden table positioned in front of it.
Soft light radiated from the lamps, and the bookshelf installed along the walls added depth to the space.
“Well. Not bad.”
Only the necessary furniture was present, making the space feel ample and comfortable.
It had no signs of flamboyance whatsoever, but it was a home imbued with refined beauty.
[After I vaguely mentioned our tastes to Omega’s subordinates, they perfectly decorated the interior just the way we wanted. Those guys are impressive.]
[Hehe. After wandering around, it feels strange to have a proper home like this.]
Pharaoh and Devil chatted while sipping their drinks on the sofa. Judging by their expressions, they seemed to be very pleased with their new home.
Yumi – Looks like you both are highly satisfied.
Mirstin – Of course! They decorated it just the way they like.
Rize Nova – It’s not entirely straightforward. We didn’t do the interior ourselves; we just expressed our vague preferences. The machines that understood their tastes so perfectly and executed it are amazing.
Mysticism – Omega’s robots are top-notch!
Mysticism – But where did they get those drinks? They don’t seem like regular water.
Pururu – Neo Japan.
Boglebogle – Neo Japan provides them.
Mysticism –
After finishing the tour of Pharaoh and Devil’s house, I moved on to the other sub-administrator, the Giant Caterpillar’s house.
His house had only a roof and no exterior walls, making it an open concept, so nothing much was done for interior decor.
[It’s gotten even cooler!]
“Uh… congratulations?”
Huh? Did they actually do some renovations?
I couldn’t tell upon closer inspection. It didn’t look significantly different from before.
After a brief look around the caterpillar’s house, I headed to the Snake Head’s place, located in the residential area.
The Snake Head was waiting for me in front of his house.
[Come in!]
“Excuse me for intruding.”
Pururu – What’s with the huge house?
Mirstin – Seems like he claimed a large one.
Mysticism – His laziness shows in his choice of house.
Yumi – It does feel a bit outrageous.
Rize Nova – I wonder how that lazy one’s house will look…
Boglebogle – I’m most curious about him.
Entering Snake Head’s house, I slowly turned my head to examine the interior.
A massive L-shaped sofa dominated the living room, surrounded by scattered cushions and blankets.
The floor was soft and fluffy, almost like a cushion itself. It seemed as if the whole house was designed to feel like a bed, making wherever one lay feel cozy.
Yumi – This house isn’t great.
Mysticism – It’s too dark! Light it up!
Thick curtains blocked external light from all the windows.
“It’s damp in here… Did he install such thick curtains to avoid being disturbed while resting?”
[Come in! Swoosh!]
Pururu – Is this a hikikomori concept?
Mirstin – That’s not a concept.
Rize Nova – The house reflects his personality.
Staying here any longer felt like I might catch some gloomy vibes. So, I quickly exited Snake Head’s house.
[Huh?! Why not look around some more?]
“Sorry, I’m busy.”
Next up was the Mummy Skeleton’s house.
His place had more character than the others.
From the carpet on the floor to the desk, sofa, bed, table, and wallpaper, everything was tinged with a sandy yellow that resembled sand.
Pururu – Ugh! Monochrome freak!!!
Mysticism – That’s just a desert!
Mirstin – Just looking at it makes me feel nauseous…
Boglebogle – Isn’t that a sign of a mental illness?
Yumi – Sounds like they might need some consultation.
Rize Nova – It looks fine to me; people’s tastes are subjective.
Pururu – Not really a person, huh?
[I wish… for sand…]
“Yeah, wish for lots of it.”
I quickly slipped out of this house too. Spending more time here felt like it could mess with my mind.
Next came Lionheart’s house.
Lionheart had decorated his house neatly and cleanly, much like Pharaoh and Devil.
A simple leather sofa, wooden furniture, bright walls, and an organized bookshelf.
A lion pelt portrait… Where did he get that?
In any case, there was no need for extensive scrutiny— it was just an exceptionally ordinary house without any distinctiveness.
Thus, I just skimmed through Lionheart’s home and moved along.
[You’re leaving already without looking around? Is it because my house isn’t appealing…?]
“I need to check the others’ houses too. It’s not that your house is lacking; don’t misunderstand.”
To be honest, it was indeed lacking. It was too plain to the point of being bland.
But, I thoroughly hid my true feelings.
It’s basic etiquette not to say things that could hurt someone’s feelings.
Next was the house next door to Lionheart’s, Sand Raven’s place.
The first dumb Sand Raven I had tamed.
[Kaak! This is my house!]
Dumb Sand Raven’s house had a similar decor style to Snake Head’s place.
It wasn’t completely identical; just somewhat comparable, I guess.
Dark-toned interiors with charcoal walls, black leather sofas, black glass tables, etc.
Seeming to prefer dark tones, it appeared he shared a taste with Snake Head.
They say crows love shiny objects, but it seemed there were none of those inside.
Perhaps because it’s just a monster resembling a crow and not an actual crow.
Mysticism – Why are there so many children of darkness?
Yumi – It is pretty dark.
Pururu – This place is still better than the snake head’s!
Mirstin – Agreed. The atmosphere feels different.
Like a chat among assistants, unlike Snake Head’s house, which exuded a gloomy vibe, this one radiated a mysterious and luxurious atmosphere.
I couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason for the difference.
Perhaps it was the strategically placed scented candles giving it a vibe?
Anyway, it was a house that I felt completely comfortable in even after staying for a while.
I continued to explore the houses of the monsters at a leisurely pace, as there were plenty more Sand Ravens and Cat Crabs around.
It wasn’t boring at all.
Even among the same species, just like humans have varying tastes, monsters had their unique preferences too, making it enjoyable to check out their interior designs.
Thus, I spent the entire day wandering around the Desert Town, exploring the interiors.
Boglebogle – But where is the Sage today? Is he busy?
Mirstin – I heard he suddenly said he figured something out and dashed out earlier.
Boglebogle – What did he figure out?
Mirstin – I’m not sure. I’ll ask him when he returns later.
*
At the same time, while Kang Geon was touring the Desert Town.
Sage Lunaris had left South Korea and moved to China.
He hadn’t used any means of transportation from Earth.
Due to having partially regained some power, he was now able to use teleportation magic.
Of course, opening a portal to another world was still impossible.
Anyway.
While reclaiming the Dimension Barrier recently, Sage discovered that the barrier on Earth wasn’t naturally formed.
Moreover, he learned that a guardian had previously installed the barrier on Earth long ago, and due to the weakening of that guardian’s power, the Earth’s Dimension Barrier was also collapsing.
“…It’s certain. There’s a guardian nearby.”
Deep within a desolate mountain range with no human presence.
As he navigated through the canyons, Sage felt the power he sensed from the Dimension Barrier growing closer.
He tracked the energy and continuously used teleportation.
His journey ended in a hidden laboratory buried deep underground.
The entrance fortified with impenetrable defenses and advanced security systems stood like a fortress that even the boldest intruders would think twice to breach, but it posed no obstacle for Sage.
By piercing through the solid walls and tight security, Sage Lunaris revealed himself deep within the lab.
Where he currently stood was the heart of the laboratory.
“谁啊!”
“你是怎么进来的?”
Who are you! How did you get in here?
Researchers and guards panicked at Sage’s sudden appearance.
Ignoring them, Sage’s gaze was fixed on a lifeform lying atop the experimental table.
It was clear at a glance.
That this lifeform was the protector of the Earth from external intrusions. The very one who had installed the robust Dimension Barrier and was the guardian of Earth.
As Sage gazed at the guardian, a slight tremor passed through her eyes.
“What the…”
The guardian was already lifeless.
“What the hell have these lunatics done…?”
Sage instinctively sensed that the fate of Earth was doomed.
