Chapter 6: Rebels
Luke returned to the city, but there was a problem because the streets were crowded with people, mostly monster hunters.
Luke looked at the gate, manned by the city's monster hunters, and then at the crowd.
"What's happening?" Luke said as he found Jake by a corner, by himself muttering.
Jake's eyes lit up as he approached Luke.
Jake brought his hands over Luke's shoulder and whispered, "Hey... what is your name?" Jake suddenly looked at the floor, finding it interesting.
"It's Luke, and what's yours?" Luke placed his hand over Jake likewise.
"Luke, Luke. You got to know, the monster hunters said that the guards were lying, the Dream Supreme was in that forest. Isn't that crazy?" Jake points at the guards and clenches his hands and Luke could see a yellow colour that outlined Jake.
"What would it take for me to become someone like him?" Jake says as he lets go and leans against the wall and his colour changed into a blue.
"You know, ever since that damned Tower came here, life has gone to the pits. I lost my job, my child and now my life is just barely surviving." Jake says, "I don't know why I am revealing this but... it would be nice to live in a world without the monsters." Jake finally took a glance towards Luke and his fast-changing colour locked into red.
"You. You! You became a chosen!" Jake suddenly raised his voice, and his colour turned into a deep red.
Luke looked at Jake, his multicoloured eye shined and Jake's colour changed into a green. The soul influenced from the soul reality that Luke could see, he uses the Imagination of 'Emotion' to change Jake's emotions.
"Sorry, I got carried away. It's just… exciting to see someone like you." Jake suddenly grabbed Luke's hands, "So? How is it being a chosen? Can you fly or shoot light from your hands?"
"No, but I can do a magic trick," Luke said as his multicolour eyes and rebounding eye shined, He channelled his Soul Affinity and implemented 'Memory' to change Jake's feeling.
"See this core?" Luke showed Jake a core, "Now it's going to disappear..." Luke took the core and gave it to Jake and when the core touched Jake's hand it disappeared. "What? I can feel it, but it's not there?"
"Isn't that impressive?"
"Uh... Not really..."
"What?"
Luke and Jake just look at each other.
Luke turned away and saw the thousands of other souls in his multicoloured eye and material bodies in his rebounding colour eye.
"So, what's happening now?" Luke asks.
Jake returning from his trance state, gives back the core he now could see and answered Luke, "They're panicking because another Supreme was born" Jake says without any change in tone.
Luke returned his gaze and saw Jake's soul rippling as if there was a stone dropped inside a clear and still water. Luke's multicoloured eye shines again and Jake's soul slowly returned to normal.
"You know, everybody at some point was envious of the Supremes," Jake sat down on the floor and looked at the small ant. Luke cut in, "What if you were a supreme, what would you do?".
'Being powerful would let you do whatever you want, right?' Luke thought.
"I would travel with my friends, even if I am all-powerful, what would I have without them?" Jake's eyes start tearing up, "Life is hard, the chosen can at least eat, but even they die in the end, what then? What's next?" Jake looks at Luke's coloured fringes and colourful eyes, "What's even left to live for in a world like this?" A question that goes unanswered as Jake's soul finally stopped rippling and the colour that seemed to change rapidly, now changes slowly.
"Being a Supreme must be hard, all that responsibility." Jake said and turned quiet.
'You seem to have changed the most, supreme or not', Jake thinks as he gathers his bearings.
Jake's crying stops and he held his hand out to Luke.
'How dangerous, even just a tiny touch changed him' Luke mused.
Luke took his hand and brought him up.
"Thanks man, I don't know what came over me there. Hey, how about we meet up at a restaurant later? when my party is back from whatever they're doing," Jake looks around rapidly, "Ah! I remember, they told me to visit them at the hotel, some kind of injury. See you later!" Jake said and escapes as if embarrassed about crying in public.
Luke looked at Jake's escaping figure and he became solemn, "It's not the power, but the user" Luke says like a mantra. He brought his hand from sides to his face, "Don't worry, I will make a place for you, for everybody," Jake took his off his face and properly looked at the passers-by.
"A place where you could live if you want and die how you want, a second life that doesn't end until you ask" Luke's glance glides over thousands of people whose highlights were all colourful showing that they were emotionally high.
But, deeper in that colour, in the soul of the being, Luke could see it. He could feel it. Their memories and desires.
"Maybe, even the vilest of beings need a saviour?" Jake says as he locks onto a passerby that was laughing with another. "All to atone, maybe this much would be enough to atone" Luke continues as he glanced at everybody.
His eyes glows and emits light that was delayed.
"All to justify, see you soon". Jake says and turns his back towards the crowd and follows another passerby, "But some don't deserve to live, no?" Luke searched deeper into the woman that he was following.
Her soul told him and he thought,
Torture. Murder. Abuse. Theft. Rebel.
A sin she should atone for.
'Perhaps some people don't deserve freedom. Getting rid of people like them should justify her sacrifice, right?'
Luke channelled his Soul Affinity and implemented 'Emotion' turning her colour into white and her soul becoming ripped apart.
The woman screamed and held her hair, kneeling, her eyes turned white, and her body became pale.
'Is this right? Don't they also suffer?'
A husk of a person was what she became.
'Perhaps, this isn't right, but would she want to live in a world like this?' Jakes hand slowly reached up and stopped for a bit, 'Should suffering end with pain? Wouldn't they also atone if they join me?'.
Luke's slow hand turned rapid and latched onto the woman's face.
"Tell me, who do you work with?"
The woman says something and Luke's eyes glow, "Why not atone for your sins and help me fix this broken world?". The woman's body flickers and slowly turns transparent as Luke connects the woman to the Soul Reality, turning her into a subordinate Soul Existence.
Her soul connected to Luke through the Soul Reality, he forms a tether, like the one that goes to an unknown destination, and connects the woman to himself.
The woman's face gradually disappears and becomes veiled, her existence changed forever, and her soul becomes dyed white from the tether, as if the white string is bleeding into her.
---
Luke arrives at a city block with the veil woman next to him, transparent and invisible from normal eyes.
"Is it there? Yes? Okay." Luke responds to the woman.
Luke followed the guidance of the veil woman and reached a compound that looked normal to normal eyes.
The compound was screaming and crying, a blue and black highlight.
"Should I save these beings?" Luke asks himself.
Two people came up to Luke, "This isn't your place. Leave." says a hulking person, "Right, this is no place for a slim guy like you," says the other.
"Leave".
They turned into Soul Existences and joined Luke is atonement.
Luke continued to walk and look at the people chained, who had lost their light, Luke stopped and put his hands together and the tether connecting their soul and bodies dissolved.
They were free from suffering.
Luke continued to walk through the place, turning the place from a rebel hideout into a ghost hideout.
Finally, Luke reached someone who didn't crumble after one touch. The Rebel, whose soul was shaking, spoke.
"You monster! We were right, God has punished humanity, the tower's apocalypse is the punishment, it was all a lie!" A fanatic rants whilst becoming unstable and broken.
"You will be punished by God, oh, apocalypse bringer."
"I would do anything to bring them back into a world fit for them".
The rebel spoke again whilst rushing at Luke, "You. You are the problem, if I get rid of you, then everything will be fine, no more sin, become a sacrifice for humanity!", and collapsed before Luke.
Luke ruminated on the words, "What if I am becoming monster?", Luke rationalises, "Somebody has to save the world, right?"
"Everything for you, when you come back". Luke looked at the stars.
After an hour, Luke sits on top a building covered in blood and bodies, he stood on top of another massacre of bodies belonging to a different rebel base.
Luke looks over a compound that reeked of blood, surrounded by Soul Existences and contemplates something, "But why do they not get a second life?".
The compound that reeked of blood also went with bodies that were mangled and hung up on the wall, children or not, they were tortured until the end.
Before Luke was the rebels that said the Tower was the judgement for Earth from God, a punishment for their sins.
The rebels, a bygone product, were in the millions.
These rebels were one of the branches that were everywhere, even in a forgotten city. Where humans gather, rebels follow and desecrate.
Luke looks at the strong soul of another rebel leader that slowly turned white and cracked, "Power truly corrupts, right?" A grin comes upon Luke's face.
"You did what you wanted, and I came to free you". Luke continues.
Luke repeats himself, "Power truly corrupts all,".
"And you are not any different than me".
Two hours later in another city block.
Jake sat on a bench, his party buying gear at a certain blacksmith chain.
'Why was I emotional? He's totally going to make fun of me", Jake put his hands on top of his face and kicks his legs.
Rose seeing this scene, drops her bags onto the floor. "What?" she voices quietly.
Alice who was behind her asks, "What's wrong?".
Rose responds quickly and takes Alice's hand, "Hey, I heard that there is a new skin cream, let's go see".
"Ah, sure, I didn't know you like the previous era's things".
"You know, it feels really nice", Rose says and shakes her short black hair, 'I'm doing this for you vice leader.'
And the two went on a window-shopping spree.
Jake, left alone, stops his movement, "Wasn't Luke strange? More distant." he mutters for the second time.
