Chapter 4: Luke and the Woman
'This is not good; I'm going to lose control again.' The man monologues.
The man brought his hand out and manifested living beings that chase the spider in a circle, gathering time for his next attack.
The spider dodging the attacks of the summoned beings and when a silk touched a summon, they burned into pieces and got turned into fine red mist. However, the number of summon didn't change as they herded the spider and eventually the spider returns the position it sling shot away to escape the man, but now with multiple wounds.
'Good thing; There's no one here, I can go all out, the backlash shouldn't be an issue this far out of a city'.
The man glares at the spider and imagines the death of the spider, his Energy twisted and imposes his Dream Affinity onto the spider, the imagination that the man implemented was Death.
The spider retaliating sends out an armament of weapons, but they just dissolve when they reach 50 meters away from the man. The spider just disappears, and its Energy usurped by the man.
The man lands on the ground and zones out. His body that once was normal, starts flickering and the world around him starts to change. The floor became cake and the trees gold, the world changes and the man dreams.
'I hope this time, it is quicker to subdue. I don't want to hurt anyone,' the man looked at the dust that was the spider and ponders. 'Arial said that today was the meeting, maybe I can see her again.'
'Work is so annoying.' The man thinks, then he loses all control.
Affinities are like waves, but without the necessary control the Affinity rampages.
The area becomes filled with yellow mist that spirals outwards of the man, corrupting the land, the world becomes a dream of the man.
Monsters appears, ignoring the man, they target Luke.
Attuned to the Dream, anything that was not a dream caught their rage.
Houses appear and they crush the trees and flood the lakes.
Unnoticeable and randomly, they sunder the sky.
Using the reflections of the buildings from the golden trees, Luke dodges one building after another.
Luke hopes to be lucky and runs.
He jumps over a broken doghouse and shoots a monster in the head.
He dodges an arrow and unsheathes his knife and slices through an overgrown plant.
The cake floor makes him slip and the plant ejects small pins that were poison to any nonliving thing.
His arm gets hit by pins and his gun disintegrates.
"That hurts, really, it does. I guess, I'll die here without achieving my promise,"
He checks his status,

"Wake up, wake up," a woman who has bright-red hair tried to wake up a man who is laying on the ground. The woman with bright-red hair had seen the blue-haired man escape from her leader's backlash, which brought his imagination into reality, a feat only possible when he had lost control.
"Should I heal him?" The woman looked at the man's arm and chest and then ponders if she should save this person.
"There will be repercussions, maybe... but Traum..." the woman was indecisive.
The woman, hesitating to act, finally decided to heal the man who is one step inside death's doors.
She extends her hands, channelling her Light Affinity, she imagines the aspect of removing darkness. Her Energy swirls around her hands and touch the man, when a sliver of Light Energy interacted with the man, his body began purging impurities, such as injuries, ripped skin and damaged organs.
This continued for 20 minutes until all the injuries on the man disappeared.
The woman, seemingly tired, sat down next to tree. "What should I do if Traum is injured?" the woman suddenly regrets her decision, "I am Traum's subordinate, I shouldn't be doing this for random people," she looked at the man and spoke.
"Should I-" Whilst monologuing on unsavoury topics, Luke had woken up from his sleep. He shot up straight and reached for his gun, but he had no purchase as he held empty air.
Looking around and noticing the woman with bright-red hair that went to her waist, Luke questioned her, "Who are you?".
The woman, amused by his reaction, "You can't even recognize your saviour? Maybe I shouldn't have bothered" she said as if offended.
Luke, finally understanding what happened, apologised to his saviour. "I'm thankful of your actions, but what happened, if you would be kind." his words may seem apologetic, but his stance never changed.
'This is annoying,' Luke thinks.
The woman looked at Luke and her smile fades, "You were in the middle of an Affinity user's rampage, I saved you, now leave before you die.", she dismisses Luke like he is a fly.
Luke considers his options, he is an unsynchronised, he has no power in this situation and even if he had a gun or not. People like the woman were obviously chosen, she could strike him now the moment his hands hit the trigger.
'I shouldn't leave karma untouched, nevertheless. She saved me.'
Luke looks at the ground and speaks once more, "Thank you for helping me... maybe this core will suffice?" he takes out his backpack and takes out the core from the Orc, but notices that the goblin core, the one from yesterday is missing. "Is this enough for the treatment?" Luke hopes that she takes it.
The woman glances at the man again and notices the core that was filled with Dream Energy, she says "I'll take it," her Light Energy materialised the light that came from the core and levitated it towards herself.
The woman understood the significance of this core, a summoned being's core. As Traum's subordinate, she should protect his belongings, even if she was assigned this post by the Tower Association she is determined to rise to the top.
Luke seemed amazed at the show of power.
"What's your Affinity." The woman seeing the core, considered the man a chosen like herself, she attempts to bring Luke into the fold.
"I have none", and the woman lost interest in the man. "Leave now", she says and walks into the forest to meet her boss.
'Unsynchronised are useless' she thinks, 'The Tower expedition, that is starting after the meeting of the Supreme five, doesn't need or support the unsynchronised. I shouldn't have bothered saving that fool.'
Luke, watching the woman's retreating figure, remarks "Is that what being a chosen is like?". Life for the unsynchronized was never easy, with the world divided into a caste system with the strongest at the highest peak, the Supreme five a goal for all synchronised.
Luke sighs, "It sucks, this feeling of powerlessness." and clenches his hands, then he releases them "Isn't this normal?"
Luke leaves the forest through the trail, noticing the lack of any monsters but, people who were running away from the forest, he observed.
The movement of people running away reminded him of an unwanted memory.
"How many of these people will die. Life is fragile, isn't it mother", Luke reminisces the time he spent with his parents and continues walking.
"I almost died again, seems like you died for nothing."
He checked in with the guards and walked 30 minutes to his home, the hotel that was a ruin.
Stepping on the broken building pieces, Luke, as if by routine, jumps over large pieces and gets to his home.
Opening the scratched door to his home, he sees a familiar sight of cores and cracked walls. "it's nice being home after all, tomorrow, I should just eat that burger", Luke decides to spend his cores when he can, "After all, I don't know when I would be able to".
