Chapter 16: Exam Finale

Holding out his hand Kenji flooded the street with the abyss, swallowing the fine pieces of glass and concrete that would be far too meticulous to pick up by hand, 'Can't believe I went from fighting monsters to a living roomba.'

"How's vacuum duty going Kenji?" Toga shouted as she knelt down and grabbed a piece of concrete nearly as tall as her before lifting it over her head and throwing it nearly five feet to the side.

Responding with his middle finger Kenji ignored Toga trying to suppress the slight humiliation he felt, 'That's it laugh it up, you'll pay for it later.'

Despite the seemingly mundane nature of his clean up task, Kenji had to admit it was excellent training. As Kenji would occasionally create countless individual tendrils to pick up the shards of debris with most being no larger than grains of rice.

Kenji also noticed that his control over the abyss had improved significantly after devouring the griffin and he had gained another cubic foot of space. Kenji would have celebrated the fact that he found a way to power up his quirk and gone hunting after more Dread Beasts if not for the fact that the power he gained was mostly likely given to him by some unknown eldritch monster.

'The worst part is, at some point I'm going to have to feed it again.' Kenji had no illusion that he could avoid interacting with the creature. It had already shown it was capable of hijacking his quirk and invading his mind, so far the creature only wanted to eat whatever Kenji killed. Godforbid he deprived the creature of its food.

'I also can't deny that feeding the monster is the quickest way for me to grow stronger,' Kenji somberly thought. As he was right now Kenji wasn't that powerful, he was resilient and could tolerate a lot of damage Kenji didn't have a way to deal reliable consistent damage.

Even against some of the members of Class A-1 in the anime I wouldn't stand a chance. My void armor isn't thick enough to withstand an attack from Bakugo or Deku, and an emitter like Todoroki would just overwhelm me with ice.'

Kenji frowned deep in thought, 'Fortunately growing my quirk isn't the only way for me to grow stronger. Unfortunately I'm currently dirt poor when it comes to Eros Points.'

Absent-mindedly Kenji's eyes drifted over to Toga who cleared the street of wrecked cars and rubble with relative ease. Staring at her lithe muscular form, glistening in the sun Kenji couldn't help but lament the fact that training for the exam had superseded their relationship from truly blossoming.

They would tease each other verbally and physically but most of the time both were exhausted from training, 'Perhaps I should have pushed a bit more, though I never was one to make the first move. I died a virgin after all.'

Grumbling as he remembered his pathetic life before being reincarnated Kenji's eyes drifted over from Toga to Uraraka who was using her quirk to levitate the heavier debris off the road.

Compared to Toga's well toned and shapely body, Uraraka was far more curvy with thick thighs that rubbed together, supporting an ass so big Kenji would have thought it to be fake, along with massive breasts that looked like they belonged on an anime character.

'Well I guess that last one is pretty accurate,' Kenji mused to himself before he felt a dangerous chill pass down his back.

Wondering if another Dread Beast had caught sight of them Kenji looked behind his back only to see Toga staring at him with a deadly look in her eyes, 'Ah shit.'

A nervous smile spread across Kenji's face as he prayed Toga hadn't seen him staring for long. Turning around Kenji returned to his task hoping he wouldn't catch a stray piece of rubble to the back of his head.

Flicking out his pinky Nezu raised his tea cup to his lips and took a delightful sip as he stared at the series of monitors in front of him.

'This year's candidates have promise.' Nezu thought to himself as he watched the future generation of heroes battle against their first Dread Horde. It was a trend Nezu had taken note of with each passing decade as even those from civilian families were born with increasingly powerful quirks.

'Not to mention the Legacy Families, ethics aside, quirk marriages do have their benefits,' Nezu mused to himself before a frown split his face, 'But it's not enough.'

Humans weren't the only ones capable of evolving, as a Dread Beast himself Nezu could feel it in his bones. Something in the world was changing, 'The other bastions have reported increased rates of Dread Hordes and Dread Kings appearing.'

Setting down his tea cup Nezu took a moment to still his constantly racing mind, 'The council has been informed, but they refuse to take any progressive action for fear of inciting an panic. Still that does not mean I can't take my own precautions.'

---

Kenji stood frozen in place as he stared at the sea of fire pouring down the street courtesy of a slug like Dread Beast, covered in molten slag that emitted enough heat to melt the concrete around it into lava.

'Well it was fun while it lasted,' Kenji thought as he felt the bracelet around his wrist vibrate before he was enveloped by a translucent foam like gel. Both Uraraka and Toga were already bubbled up having fallen to the magma slug soon after the fight began.

After being stuck on clean up crew for the entirety of the second wave, Kenji, Toga and even to a lesser extent Uraraka were itching to fight another monster hoping to gain a huge lump sum of points from the increased value.

'Guess we got a bit cocky,' Kenji mused to himself. Though in their defense the slug hadn't started off dripping liquid slag. When they came across it, the Dread Beast's only strength appeared to be its improvised rocky armor. But the moment they attacked the mollusk turned into a living furnace.

'Hopefully being a vacuum paid off.'
