Chapter 15: Exam pt.5

"Alright I can work with that," Holding out his hand Kenji sent out a mass of tendrils through the air and each latched onto a piece of rubble. Tightening his hand into a fist Kenji pulled all the tendrils together along with the rubble forming a massive clump of compacted concrete, glass, and metal scrap.

"W-what should I do?" The anti-gravity girl asked, prompting Kenji to haul back on the makeshift flail, dragging it across the ground before it stopped at his feet, "Can you make this thing float?"

Nodding eagerly the girl ran forward and tapped the ball of debris before pressing the tips of her fingers together. Kenji and Toga watched as a bright pink glow infused the rubbled causing it to rise off the ground and into the air. And not a moment too soon.

With another screech the Griffin pierced through the air moving so fast that the air from its passing shattered windows sending countless shards of glass raining down. Undaunted Kenji whipped his arm forward with a grunt, even though he didn't feel any strain, sending the improvised wrecking ball rocketing through the air to meet the griffin head on. At the last moment Kenji saw a look of surprise flash across the griffin's face, before it slammed into the mass of concrete at full speed.

There was a sickening crunch as flesh and concrete collided, sending stone shrapnel and blood flying into the air in a gruesome cloud. For a moment the Griffin was obscured before something vaguely monster shaped plummeted out of the air in a shower of golden feathers.

The griffin smacked onto the pavement with a splat, and enough force to make the ground tremble. The body also burst open like a dyed water balloon sending blood flying into the air.

Staring at the wave of crimson ready to rain down on him, Kenji raised his hand into the air. A black dome large enough to cover Toga and the new girl unfurled in the air just in time to block sangrine rain.

The group of bystanders who hadn't lifted a finger weren't as lucky and Kenji took great pleasure in watching them gag as the smell of copper clogged their throats.

But Kenji's laughter died in his throat as the dome above his head wavered and rippled his control over the conjured abyss slipping.

{FEED}

As the hauntingly familiar voice echoed through Kenji's mind, the dome above his head split open as a horde of writhing tendrils and tentacles waa unleashed.

Kenji watched In abject horror as the eldritch appendages descended on the griffin's body, wrapping around broken limbs and scoping up split guts before effortlessly raising the corpse off the ground. In a matter of seconds the griffin disappeared into the portal that disappeared as quickly as it had appeared.

But in his mind Kenji could hear the sound of rending fleshing and cracking bones as something feasted on the griffin's remains. Unexpectedly however Kenji felt something settle in his stomach, it was cold and frigid and sat heavy like a rich soup.

With a sudden realization Kenji felt his mouth flood with salvia as a wave of nausea passed through him, 'I'm eating the griffin.'

Before the revolting idea of eating a Dreadbeast raw could make Kenji throw up, a stabbing pain in his temples almost made him collapse. The pain was nearly indescribable, but if Kenji had to put it into words it felt like his skull was going through the worst growing pains of his life.

After the pain passed Kenji was left in a cold sweat and as he stood up right, he felt something brush against his hair. Reaching up, Kenji felt around wondering if a piece of concrete had gotten stuck during the fight when his hands grazed against something smooth, almost glassy.

With a start Kenji realized the small obsidian horns that had been no more than nubs were now several inches long and slanted back at an angle, 'What the hell is happening to me?'

"A-are you alright?!"

Looking over his shoulder Kenji stared down at the anti-gravity girl who was looking up at him with a concerned look on her face, "Y-yeah, just a weird function of my quirk."

"Oh…" The girl responded as she nervously tapped her fingers together, "S-so that thing in the sky…"

"Was completely under my control," Kenji interrupted as he plastered a confident grin on his face, "I just wanted to clear the battlefield before anymore Dreadbeasts were attracted by the smell of blood."

The girl nodded, seemingly accepting Kenji's poor excuse of an explanation, "Also thanks for stepping up and helping. It would have been a lot harder to deal with that griffin alone."

"I-I didn't do that much," the girl refuted with an adamant shake of her head as she blushed.

Toga snorted as she walked within earshot, "You did more than me, and a lot more than those guys who left us."

Kenji wondered what Toga was talking about but when he looked to where their group of bystanders had been standing only to see an empty street, "Where did everybody go?"

"You scared them off with that little show of yours, nice horns by the way," Toga answered before she carefully scratched her head with her claws, "Are you going to eat the lizard as well or can we take a break?"

"Yeah, let's just get the fuck out of here, maybe focus on the other objectives instead of repelling monsters," Kenji replied before turning around and addressing their one person audience, "Want to team up, your quirk would make things a hell of a lot easier."

"R-really?!" The girl shouted in surprise before she bowed to Kenji and Toga, "Thank you, my name's Uraraka…I'll try not to slow you guys down."

"Y-yeah no problem," Kenji replied, feeling a bit awkward at having another person bow down to him.

Toga took it in stride however, walking next to the girl and patting her on the back, "Enough of all that we're all friends here. I'm Toga and that brute over there is Kenji."

Uraraka stood up and Toga took the opportunity to throw an arm over her shoulder, "Now let's get going already, this is still an exam after all."
