Chapter 113: Deku x Shoto
The air in dorm room 204 was thick with tension, a tension only Izuku could feel, a tension woven from years of unspoken longing. Sunlight streamed through the window, painting dust motes dancing in the air, illuminating Shoto as he sat at his desk, meticulously organizing notes for their final Heroics project. Izuku, perched on the edge of his bed, watched him, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird.
Four years. Four years of shared classes, late-night study sessions fueled by instant ramen, and whispered secrets under the star-dusted dorm rooftop. Four years of watching Shoto bloom from a stoic, withdrawn boy into a confident, compassionate hero. Four years of falling, hopelessly, irrevocably, in love.
And now, it was ending. Graduation was just weeks away. The threads of their shared life, spun so tightly together, were about to unravel, leading them down separate paths, towards different agencies and different futures. The thought was a physical ache in Izuku's chest.
He had to tell him. He had to.
He'd told himself he'd wait for the perfect moment, a moment bathed in romantic moonlight, where the words would flow effortlessly, where Shoto would look at him with the same quiet intensity he felt. But perfect moments were elusive things, and time was running out.
Taking a deep breath, Izuku stood, his palms slick with sweat. "Shoto?"
Shoto looked up, his mismatched eyes gentle. "Yes, Izuku?"
That simple question was enough to send a fresh wave of panic crashing over Izuku. He stumbled over the carefully rehearsed opening line. "U-um, I… I just wanted to… well…" He trailed off, feeling the familiar sting of frustration in his eyes.
Shoto, ever perceptive, closed his notebook and turned fully towards him. "Are you alright, Izuku? You seem… stressed."
Stressed was an understatement. He was a walking, talking, anxiety-ridden mess. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," Izuku mumbled, running a hand through his unruly green hair. "It's just... there's something I need to tell you."
Shoto remained silent, his gaze unwavering, offering Izuku the space he desperately needed.
Izuku swallowed hard. "We've been friends a long time, Shoto. Since U.A. And now... everything's changing. We're graduating, and we'll be going our separate ways…" He paused, forcing himself to meet Shoto's eyes. "And before that happens, I need you to know something."
He took another deep breath, steeling his resolve. "I… I've always… admired you, Shoto. Your strength, your determination, your… everything. And somewhere along the way, that admiration turned into… something more."
He squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself for rejection, for awkward silence, for the crushing realization that he'd ruined everything.
He continued, his voice barely a whisper, "I'm in love with you, Shoto."
Silence.
A deafening, agonizing silence.
Izuku finally forced his eyes open. Shoto hadn't moved. His expression was unreadable, a carefully constructed mask that offered no clue to his thoughts.
"Shoto?" Izuku asked, his voice trembling. "Say something, please."
Shoto blinked, and a flicker of something – surprise? Confusion? – crossed his face. He stood up, his tall frame towering over Izuku. He took a step closer, closing the distance between them.
Izuku held his breath, his heart pounding like a drum solo.
Shoto reached out, his hand hovering hesitantly before gently cupping Izuku's cheek. The touch was electric, sending shivers down his spine.
"Izuku," Shoto said, his voice soft, a low rumble that vibrated through Izuku's entire being. "I… I didn't realize."
A wave of disappointment washed over Izuku. He hadn't realized. Of course, he hadn't realized. He was too dense, too focused on heroics, too…Shoto.
But then, Shoto continued. "I'm not good at… expressing these kinds of things, Izuku. But… having you around these past years, knowing I could always count on you… It made everything easier. Brighter."
He paused, his gaze searching Izuku's face. "I care about you very much, Izuku. More than I probably let on. I just… I never thought…"
He trailed off, his cheeks flushing a faint pink.
Izuku's hope flickered back to life. "Never thought what?"
Shoto took another step closer, his other hand now resting lightly on Izuku's waist. "Never thought you could feel that way about me."
He lowered his gaze, his voice barely audible. "Maybe… maybe I was too afraid to let myself hope."
Izuku's heart soared. He reached up and gently brushed a stray strand of hair from Shoto's face. "Don't be afraid, Shoto. Just… tell me."
Shoto looked up, his mismatched eyes meeting Izuku's with an intensity that stole his breath away.
"Izuku," he whispered, his voice raw with emotion. "I think I'm in love with you too."
And then, finally, they kissed.
The sunlight warmed their faces as their lips met, a soft, tentative touch that blossomed into something deeper, something more profound. Years of unspoken feelings poured into that kiss, a promise of a future they could build together, a future where their paths, instead of diverging, converged into a single, brighter horizon. The tension in the room evaporated, replaced by a quiet joy, a sense of peace that settled over Izuku like a warm blanket.
As the kiss deepened, Izuku knew that even though graduation was looming, even though the future was uncertain, they would face it together. Because even if they went their seperate ways at first, their hearts were now intertwined, bound by a love that had been years in the making, a love that was finally, gloriously, out in the open. The ending of one chapter was only the beginning of a new one, a story they would write together, page by page, for the rest of their lives.
