Chapter 27: 27. Another Dream
Orochimaru was standing on top of an inconspicuous building, staring at the moonlit night utterly confused.
I just met a deity…? He couldn't make up his mind about it. Seth's appearance was too out of the blue for the ninja prodigy. He would still be able to accept this all if it weren't for one thing...
"It… no, 'He' just gave me something world-shattering," Orochimaru muttered as he observed mystical wisps flowing through the world.
"This is… what that entity referred to as 'external' mana?" he spoke as he swirled those energies around his arm.
Orochimaru contemplated. 'Chakra' uses the innate energies inherent in our body to cast 'jutsu' that affects the outside world. This 'mana' used the innate energy that existed in nature around me.
When molded to certain shapes, it will cast a real-world effect similar to jutsu, which Seth, the entity dubbed as a 'spell' or 'magic'. That entity even gave me a few spells for experimentation. Orochimaru thought quietly as he imagined a complex circle in his mind.
The articulate circle was complete, he flicked his hand, "Fire… Bolt?" a magic circle arose from his palm. Orochimaru had cast one of the spells ingrained into his memory by the deity Seth.
A negligible tinge of pain was felt in his head as a small flame floated above the circle. He also noticed a minuscule decrease in stamina, focus, and concentration too
My mental capacity and stamina were drained, yet my chakra… remained untouched. Orochimaru concluded as he controlled the flame to circle his arm.
That deity. I don't understand why he did this to me. I could guess that he taught me magic to prove he was not from this world, but why did he also do divination? Orochimaru speculated Seth's true plan as images from days that hadn't come flickered in his mind.
Seth peeked into Orochimaru's future and gave it to him for free, he did the same for mana and magic too.
Any competent person knew a gift this special usually comes with strings attached, he just couldn't tell what Seth wanted from him.
He asked why Seth did so, and the entity just told him that the act of gifting was what it urgently needed.
Before Orochimaru could inquire more, an event happened in his bedroom. His mind couldn't remember but he knew Seth disappeared after.
If it weren't for the fact that he could cast spells that didn't exist in this world, he would consider tonight's event as a mere dream.
Yet a flame made of mana, not chakra, floated around his hand. The flame was so pathetically weak that he would never use it, yet it also proved that Seth was real.
"Does that mean these images are also true?" Orochimaru closed his eyes and dug through as much information as possible from Seth's gift.
Me, Jiraiya, and Tsunade will receive a title renowned across the ninja world. I will meet an orphan that was powerful enough to strike fear in every ninja in the ninja world. And finally, my experiments will be found, forcing me to defect.
These prophecies were what Orochimaru got. He somewhat expected the third prophecy because of the unspeakable taboos he had already done to achieve his goals, but he had no clue about the first two.
This is just the second shinobi war yet such world-changing events could happen. Orochimaru thought as he went back to his bedroom.
He didn't know if they would come true in the future. But just before Seth disappeared, Orochimaru received only one more message from him: "He'll be back."
—
In a bedroom, a thin average man with brown hair was preparing himself.
"Everyone from the guild–Rob, Bob, Porlyusica, Goldmine, and Makarov. I thank you all for the most memorable years of my life. I'll never forget the adventures and bonds we built along the way. I'll cherish the memories this guild has given me for the rest of my life! But still, I have decided: I wish to leave the Fairy Tail guild." The man spoke to himself, practicing his speech and solidifying his resolve for what he planned to do tomorrow.
"I planned to join the Magic Council to achieve my dream. Sadly I could only do so by leaving the guild." He rehearsed it a few more times.
Even as he practiced his sentences, the man's heart wavered, Forgive me for leaving you guys, for leaving my home to join the magic council! This may seem selfish but don't worry; I am still a fairy tail at heart. I will help Fairy Tail more by joining them instead of staying here!
Fun memories resurfaced in his mind, and as the man smiled, he decided to rest for the night.
—
"What is this place?" He asked as he observed his place.
All this felt like a typical dream, but it was too lucid to be one. Then again the pitch black sky and grey ground were unnatural to begin with.
"Greetings, fated one," a voice resounded throughout the realm.
The thin man turned around and found a flowing black substance spouting from the ground.
The pool of black substance encroached where he stood, so he stepped back in caution.
the substance suddenly gathered to a single point and rose to three meters. It went from liquid to a foggy gaseous state with spots of light. And finally, the whole entity swirled in red.
The man wanted to say something before the entity stated, "Excuse my lack of response in the following seconds, this self is on an endeavor to grasp your identity and this world you lived in."
The man with hesitation waited for the unknown entity to do his business.
His patience wasn't betrayed as seconds later a clicking sound was heard, its body color turned back to black. "Thank you for allowing me a small amount of time. I have collected enough information to identify you as Yajima, a mage from the guild 'Fairy Tail'. With this, I, Seth, a lost god, greeted thee."
"A god? Sorry if this sounds offensive but did you mean gods… that people worship?" the thin man Yajima Inquired.
"Yes, those kinds, though I technically don't have one as of this moment."
"Uh huh…" Yajima replied confusingly. He rubbed his chin before asking, "May I know why you're inside my dream?"
Seth the entity answered, "This is an act I must do to benefit me in the long run."
"Pardon?"
"Explaining why I'm here would be too time-consuming to my liking; my time is limited here. Forgive me if this sounds offensive but I forced myself to enter your dream for my benefit but I guarantee that we are fated to meet."
Hearing the last part increased Yajima's wariness by a notch, he asked, "What are you gonna do to me?"
"I'll give you a few of my gifts to help you in the long run."
Yajima became confused, he thought. What is Seth's true intention?
Suddenly a vortex appeared behind the entity and latched on to the mysterious being named Seth. A great suction force was released throughout the place as Yajima felt genuine danger.
The suction vacuumed Seth, and as he was pulled, a voice emerged in his mind.
"I thank thee for helping me in this situation, as a gift I'll bestow you these." New information flooded Yajima's mind forcefully, causing him to kneel from the pain. With the last vestige of his consciousness, he wanted to ask more but sadly the mysterious being had disappeared from the vortex.
—
*GASP!* Yajima awoke from his dream.
Without a second to waste he sprang from his bed towards his desk, almost falling face flat to the floor. Even then he remained unfettered.
Yajima quickly grabbed a pen and stacks of empty papers and furiously wrote.
In minutes, pages upon pages of writing were written haphazardly
He also drew magic circles, diagrams, sigils, runes, glyphs, seals, and more.
Dang it! they are too complex! it won't fit on these papers! Yajima shouted in his mind, as some of the magical drawings contained too many details.
These papers are for notes, small in size, and limited in drawing space, meaning they become unreadable from the number of lines he has drawn on them.
Realizing this he immediately stared at the walls of his bedroom, an urge to draw on the walls arose but he quickly dismissed it.
In delirium, he had the urge to run to an art store so he could buy those wide sketching papers and even blank canvases. However, he didn't do so because he feared this new knowledge would fade if he did.
He scrambled for anything and finally found a solution. An old glue bottle, sitting inconspicuously on his desk.
With zeal, Yajima laid out all his remaining papers into a square grid, with each edge of the paper slightly overlapped.
Yajima immediately applied his old glue on the overlapping parts, when he did so he used wind and other magics to ensure the glue had dried. With this, he had successfully crafted a huge sheet of paper covering the bedroom floor.
Without hesitation, he used cooling magic so his sweat wouldn't ruin the paper and applied floating magic so he wouldn't accidentally step on the paper and tear it. After all bases were covered, he drew dozens of big magic circles and diagrams on the paper.
A few minutes later he had successfully written and drawn all the knowledge Seth had implanted in his mind. Yajima floated back and observed everything he had drawn.
So profound… To think that in one night, that entity imparted me so many… Yajima re-examined everything he had written and drawn.
Yajima tested one of the spells Seth ingrained in his mind, but because of this, he found something shocking.
"My telepathy magic evolved!" Yajima shouted. A blurred screen stood next to him. It was a blurry view of himself from outside of the bedroom window.
He had just used his telepathy magic to link his senses to a butterfly right outside his bedroom window.
Before this, his telepathy magic only allowed conversation with individuals he was linked with, which became useless on animals because they couldn't think well and speak.
He guessed that Seth had unknowingly improved his magic, his upgraded telepathy magic didn't just allow communications anymore, but also the sharing of their senses–such as sight, smell, and hearing.
Yajima beckoned the butterfly to move to another window and it did so. After making the butterfly do other certain actions, he became quite disturbed.
He could somewhat command animals.
More specifically, he didn't take over their mind, only telepathically sent his intentions toward the animals.
By sending his thoughts and intentions into their mind, the animals will perceive it as a command from their inner consciousness or instincts due to their lower intelligence.
The animals couldn't understand complex orders without training. But simple orders like 'move forward' or 'follow that guy' are enough for most scenarios. Of course, the animals could reject the order but if this happened, he could switch to another one.
"This…" Previously his telepathy magic only allowed communication with humans and could not interact with animals. But now he could share senses, command animals, and so much more. To this, he found it quite scary.
His potential for information gathering shot through the roof, not just information gathering, but also coordination, logistics, and more. Then a question arose, if his magic could do this many things with a butterfly, what would happen if he did this… with humans…?
Yajima quivered, the new abilities he got were already a huge boost to his telepathy magic. Yet he knew it was not the end of it. He felt there was so much more.
"Wait! If he did this with my telepathy magic, what about!?" He immediately tested his flattening magic and more.
A few spells later Yajima blankly stared at his bedroom ceiling. Only my telepathy magic was raised to a whole new dimension, the others… only slightly.
How high has Seth upgraded my magic…? No, more importantly, he did all this in a single night!? Yajima frustratedly massaged his head. Looks like I'll have to test it out later.
After this whole revelation, the glued sheet of paper on the floor reminded him of the current tasks at hand.
Oh yes! I still need to test them out. He immediately reread and tested everything he had written in a stupor.
And again, what he found shocked him again. To think that other than improving my magic! he also gave me these spells and knowledge! all groundbreaking and accessible to anyone with the slightest ethernano in them! but none of them are for combat… Yajima thought.
I planned to leave the guild because I believed I could help more people and support the guild better this way. Fairy Tail has always been the gung-ho fighting kind, yet my magic was never meant for that, making me feel out of place. Now these gifts from Seth acted as a twisted form of confirmation. This new knowledge and gifts could only be fully utilized in a more formal organization like the magic council. Yajima sighed from such thoughts.
"Seth, with these gifts alone you have proved to me that you are a god, or at least beyond human I supposed." he snickered, "But this still leaves more questions than answers," Yajima spoke to himself as he tidied his notes and the big sheet of paper.
"Looks like I got another reason to leave the guild, i know the guild's library doesn't have enough information on what your kind are, Seth. Maybe, the magic council does." Yajima left his room, intending to do the thing he planned to do from the start.
