Chapter 2: 2. Recruitment
In the country of India, at a shop in the city of Delhi, Kabir Dhaliwal, the one who has caught the sight of Nick Fury was buying groceries. He is a handsome man with brown skin and a styled hairstyle, great build and height. [Image is here.]
"Here." Kabir said as he gave the money.
"Thank you sir." The shop owner said as he took the money.
Kabir then took his groceries and then walked away from the shop. The streets were filled with people as they were going with their lives as Kabir made his way through the crowd. He wore sunglasses to protect his eyes from the sunrays. He reached his house after 15 minutes. It is a modest two storeyed house which has a small garden in the front.
He entered the house and placed the groceries on the ground before locking his door. But he didn't turn around and the sound of him sighing can be heard.
"So, to what do I owe the pleasure of having you in my house?" Kabir asked as he removed his glasses and looked in front of him.
In front of him sitting in his couch was none other than Nick Fury. The man just looked at the soldier as he was looked at by him.
"It seems you already knew that I was here. Would you mind telling me how?" Fury asked him.
"Well there wasn't much to indicate it, my footwear rack has been disturbed, there was mud on the floor and lastly, your footprints were in the ground." Kabir said to him.
"Damn Indians. Why can't you just lay tiles instead of dirt?" Fury said to the man.
"Keeps it traditional." Kabir said as he picked his groceries.
He then placed it on the table and sat on a couch adjacent to the director and looked at him.
"So, why is the director of SHIELD doing in my humble little home? I don't think it's to say hi." Kabir said as he looked at the man.
"I wouldn't travel all this way if I just wanted to say hi. I want to recruit you." Fury said to him.
"I'm already part of the Indian army, RAW remember." Kabir said to the man.
"I know, but this is serious." Fury said to him.
"How serious? Are you going to say that we are about to be attacked by aliens or something?" Kabir said with a chuckle.
"That's exactly what I'm going to say." Fury said seriously.
That caught the soldiers attention as he looked at the one eyed man.
"Okay, what's this about? I doubt the director of SHIELD would be joking around." Kabir said to him.
"I assume you have heard about the hammer in New Mexico." Fury said to him.
"Yes well, I assumed SHIELD took care of it." Kabir said to him.
"Yes well, we found its owner and it was quite the eye opener to us." Fury said to him.
"What kind of eye opener?" Kabir asked him.
"That there are forces out there in the universe who have powers that dwarf our own." Fury said seriously.
"So let me get this straight. The hammer that appeared in New Mexico belongs to a powerful alien from space and is most likely from a very powerful race of aliens. And now were being threatened or are in danger because of something similar. Is that right?" Kabir said to him.
"Yes." Fury simply said to him.
"Alright, I get that but why did you come to me? As far as I am concerned I'm only a soldier." Kabir said to him.
"As if, from your records you are by far the most accomplished and skilled soldier in the Indian army. Not to mention your physical and technical skills are remarkable. Not many soldiers have these two skills as they either have brains or brawn. And I need someone like that." Fury said to him.
"And am I the only one in this? Or are there still people you are recruiting?" Kabir asked him.
"I already have one, two including you. Working on getting the rest." Fury said to him.
"What are the stakes?" Kabir asked him as he got up.
He went to grab a glass of water as he drank it.
"We win, we show that the people of planet Earth are capable of fighting threats of that calibre to other species that we are not yet aware of. We lose, most likely the people of Earth will be enslaved by the enemy." Fury said stating the stakes.
The second bit caught the soldiers attention as he placed the glass on the table and turned to look at the director.
"Fury, you know about how we Indians were enslaved by the British Empire don't you?" Kabir asked him.
"It is quite known." Fury said in response.
"Then you also know about how many of my countrymen fough for our freedom." Kabir continued.
"Of course, Gandhi is known very well for his contributions to your Freedom." Fury said in the same tone.
"Then you should also know that many of us Indian's cherish the freedom that we have." Kabir said to him.
"Freedom is a part of your constitution." Fury said to him.
"Then you should already know what my answer is." Kabir said to him.
"I do, just wanted a verbal confirmation." Fury said to him.
"So, when do we go?" Kabir asked him.
"Right now." Fury said as he stood up.
Kabir wasn't surprised and got ready to go with the director. He packed his luggage and then walked with the director. A black car was already parked in front of his house. The two quickly got in as it left the area.
"So, who else are in this team?" Kabir asked the director.
"I presume you know of the hero of World War Two." Fury said to him.
This got Kabir to look at the man in surprise but then he chuckled a bit.
"Well, this will be much more interesting that I thought." Kabir said with a smile as he got comfortable in his seat.
