Chapter 68: Demonstration of the Repair Charm
As for Light Magic, George thought it wouldn't hurt to learn some of it as well. Light Magic had a certain advantage against dark magic, and in modern society, it was also great for winning people over.
In modern society, people often judge based on appearances.
If someone were to cast a bloody or pitch-black spell that looked terrifying and disgusting, even if they were doing good deeds, people would instinctively assume they were evil.
But if you had a pair of angelic wings and could summon warm, radiant light with a wave of your hand, even if you were killing someone, people would believe you were eliminating evil.
Even if it wasn't for the power of Light Magic, the sheer spectacle of its effects made it worth learning.
Moreover, Light Magic wasn't weak. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been one of Makarov's primary magics.
However, it didn't seem as visually impressive as Giant Magic, and its learning curve was steeper. It was said to be ineffective at lower levels, only showing its true power in the later stages.
On the other hand, George felt that many of the effects of Light Magic could be replicated using Harry Potter-style spells, with similar results. Therefore, he decided to prioritize other magics and come back to Light Magic when he had more time.
Seeing that he had successfully intimidated everyone, Master Makarov returned to his normal size and leaped onto the front desk. He picked up a thick stack of papers and said with a stern expression:
"You guys have caused trouble again! Look at all these complaints from the Magic Council. I get scolded by the council members every day because of you!"
Hearing Makarov's words, the guild members all looked ashamed.
However, what they didn't expect was for Makarov to suddenly conjure a flame in his hand and burn all the complaint documents to ashes.
"But, let those council members go eat dirt!"
Following this, amidst the cheers of the Fairy Tail mages, Makarov delivered an inspiring speech.
George summarized it in a few sentences:
"Don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing. Don't mind the Magic Council. If anything happens, I, as your Master, will take the heat. All you need to do is focus on completing your tasks and improving your magic."
George was quite satisfied with Makarov's performance as the guild master.
His experience from his previous life told him that an incompetent leader wasn't the worst—what was worse was a leader who couldn't take responsibility. This guild master not only had strength but also protected his own and shouldered the burden. He was definitely a good leader.
Following such a leader in the early stages would allow him to focus on improving his strength without worry.
After the excitement died down, everyone sat on the floor and continued drinking. Meanwhile, George and the blonde girl were brought before Makarov by Mirajane.
"You're Lucy, right? Since Natsu recommended you, there's no problem. Congratulations on becoming a mage of Fairy Tail!"
Makarov signaled to Mirajane, who picked up a special magic stamp and pressed it onto the back of Lucy's hand, leaving a Fairy Tail emblem.
Lucy immediately jumped up in excitement.
"I finally have the Fairy Tail emblem! I'm a mage of Fairy Tail now!"
As one of the most powerful mage guilds in the kingdom, Fairy Tail wasn't open to just anyone. Otherwise, the smaller guilds would have been left with no members.
Aside from strength, Fairy Tail had high standards for the character of its members. Any mage with a shady past would definitely be rejected.
"As for you, your name is George, right?"
After accepting Lucy, Makarov turned to George with a kind expression and asked:
"I have two questions for you:
First, why do you want to join Fairy Tail?
Second, aside from flight magic, what other magics are you proficient in?"
As a responsible guild master, Makarov had many considerations. Therefore, when dealing with mages who wanted to join voluntarily, he couldn't afford to be careless.
Fairy Tail had been around for nearly a century, completing countless missions and making many enemies among dark mages and dark guilds.
If a dark guild were to send someone to infiltrate and cause trouble, it would be disastrous.
Therefore, the strength of the mage joining didn't matter much—it could be developed over time. The original purpose of Fairy Tail was to create a place where companions could truly trust and help each other.
What mattered most was their identity and background, which was the focus of Makarov's questioning.
"There are two reasons why I want to join Fairy Tail."
George raised two claws and pointed at Happy, who was standing on Natsu's shoulder and looking at him curiously.
"First, I was born in a forest. I don't know who my parents are, and I've never seen others like me. When I heard that Fairy Tail had a cat similar to me, I wanted to come and see."
"Love! Happy doesn't know who his parents are either. Natsu found Happy and raised him!"
Happy immediately raised his right paw and answered.
This was the first time he had seen another cat like himself, so he was naturally curious.
Unlike Jinjin, who grew up wild in the forest and longed to find his race and family, Happy had been found by Natsu as a baby and raised in the warm environment of Fairy Tail. He had lived a very happy life and had never thought about finding his own kind or family.
"Well, it seems my first goal is already unattainable."
George's expression didn't change much, and he continued:
"The second reason is that I want to learn more magic. Fairy Tail is the best mage guild in the kingdom, so I came here."
Facing a Wizard Saint like Makarov, whose background and abilities were unknown, George chose not to lie. Instead, he honestly stated his intentions.
The first reason was Jinjin's original goal, and the second was his own.
He wasn't here to oppose Fairy Tail; he simply wanted to learn more magic. This wasn't a negative point.
"Hahaha, you're right! Fairy Tail is indeed the best mage guild in the kingdom!"
Hearing George's words, Makarov burst into laughter, picked up a large mug from the table, and downed the entire drink in one go.
With his 88 years of experience and the ability of Light Magic to sense hostility, he was almost certain that this little guy in front of him meant no harm.
Therefore, he had already accepted George in his heart.
Even if George only knew "Wing" magic like Happy, it didn't matter. Once someone joined the guild, they became a companion, and companions were meant to help each other. Many members would be willing to take George on missions to earn rewards.
For example, Natsu and Happy were the perfect team.
"Now, let me talk about my magic. Over the years, I've learned quite a few spells, though most of them aren't very powerful. However, I think one of them is quite useful."
George spread his wings and flew over to a shattered table. Waving his paw, he chanted:
"Reparo!"
Instantly, the shattered table seemed to rewind in time, returning to its original state.
Flying around the hall, George cast dozens of Repair Charms. The guild hall, which had been in ruins and required expensive repairs, was now restored to the state it had been in when George first arrived.
