Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Giant Magic
Chapter 67: Giant Magic
"Welcome back!"
Seeing the boy at the entrance, the mages of Fairy Tail raised their glasses in unison, clearly indicating that the boy was no small figure in the guild.
The buck-toothed mage who had mistaken George for Happy earlier laughed heartily and said:
"Natsu, I heard you caused quite a stir in Hargeon—"
Before he could finish, a large foot slammed into his face, sending him flying across the room. He crashed into several tables, knocking over a few groups of mages in the process.
"That 'Salamander' information you gave me was fake!"
The boy, Natsu, roared with anger.
"Such speed! Shouldn't he be a fire mage? How is his physical strength so high?"
George, standing on the stool at the front desk, couldn't help but feel puzzled.
Since the boy was named Natsu and had a magical cat like him, he should be the "Salamander," Fairy Tail's most powerful fire mage, as described in the magic magazines. He specialized in fire magic.
Yet, just now, Natsu had dashed from the entrance to the buck-toothed mage in the blink of an eye, leaving behind a faint afterimage. The force of his kick was also incredibly strong.
These feats far surpassed the melee dark mage George had killed earlier.
"As expected of a renowned mage from Fairy Tail. It seems they are indeed different from ordinary mages."
George wasn't afraid; instead, he felt a sense of excitement.
If Natsu, the "Salamander," was this strong, then the S-Class mages above him must be even stronger, and the Ten Wizard Saints would be the strongest of the strong.
He wasn't afraid of the mages in this world being too powerful; he was afraid they might be too weak.
The higher the ceiling for mages in this world, the higher the potential he could reach.
If the most powerful mages in this world weren't even as strong as him, then learning magic here wouldn't take him very far.
"How was I supposed to know the information was fake? I just passed on what I heard! Natsu, you want to fight? Bring it on!"
The buck-toothed mage pulled his head out of the wooden floor, furious, and charged at Natsu.
The two began exchanging blows, and soon other mages were caught in the crossfire. The situation escalated into a heated brawl among the guild members.
However, George could tell that none of them were going all out, as they were only using their physical strength in close combat.
Even so, he was impressed.
Mages like Natsu, Gray, and Loke were one thing, but even the unnamed mages displayed considerable physical strength without using magic.
If an ordinary person were sent flying into a wall or had their head smashed into the floor, they would likely be severely injured or killed. Yet, these mages simply stood up, cursing, and rejoined the fight.
As the brawl continued, the mages began to lose control.
The blonde girl who had arrived with Natsu was initially trying to mediate, but when Gray, after being ambushed by Natsu, lost his pants and approached her to borrow her underwear, she finally snapped and joined the fray.
"No wonder they're known as the most troublesome mage guild!"
George looked at the guild hall, which was now in complete disarray and on the verge of becoming a ruin. The mages around him were starting to activate their magic circles, seemingly preparing to test their magical prowess in the hall.
He couldn't help but recall the consistent descriptions of Fairy Tail in the magazines.
"Stop this at once, you idiots! Are you trying to tear down the guild?"
Just then, George heard a roar from the second floor. He looked up and saw a frail old man, less than a meter tall, leap down from the balcony.
As he fell, his body rapidly expanded, transforming into a giant nearly eight meters tall.
Seeing the giant, the other mages immediately stopped fighting and scattered to the corners of the room in fear. Only Natsu remained, laughing loudly with his hands on his hips:
"Hahaha, look how scared you all are! I win this round!"
However, his laughter was cut short as the giant's foot came down on him, nearly crushing him.
George stared in awe at the white-bearded old man, whose head nearly touched the ceiling of the hall. His muscles were bulging, and his presence was overwhelming.
"Is this Fairy Tail's Master, one of the Ten Wizard Saints, Makarov, and his Giant Magic?"
While gathering information over the past two days, George hadn't forgotten about Fairy Tail's strongest mage, Makarov, who was also one of the kingdom's most powerful mages.
From what he had learned, Makarov knew many types of magic, but the two most famous were Giant Magic and Light Magic.
Giant Magic allowed the user to enlarge parts of their body or their entire body. This enlargement wasn't just superficial; their physical strength and defense were also amplified.
In George's understanding, it was like a magical version of "Law of Heavenly Phenomena," and it was said to have no upper limit. The more magical power one had and the deeper their understanding of the magic, the larger they could become.
Legend had it that in ancient times, a mage who used Giant Magic had lifted a mountain a thousand meters high. Of course, this was just a story from the books, and its authenticity was debatable.
But one thing was certain: Giant Magic was incredibly powerful. Otherwise, Makarov wouldn't be one of the Ten Wizard Saints, and the Fairy Tail mages wouldn't have scattered so quickly.
Over the past two days, while selecting magic to learn, George had given it some thought.
There were too many types of magic in this world, and mastering any one of them required immense effort. To quickly improve his strength in the early stages, he could only focus on one, or at most two, types of magic.
So, which magic should he choose?
His understanding of this world's magic was still superficial, based solely on what he had read in books. He couldn't determine which magic was more powerful or had greater potential.
Thus, he came up with a simple solution: learn the magic used by the strongest mages. This might not be the best choice, but it was the least likely to be a mistake.
The strongest mages in this world were the Ten Wizard Saints, and the Master of Fairy Tail, which he was about to join, was one of them.
The answer was clear: he would learn the same magic as Fairy Tail's Master. This way, he could easily seek guidance if he encountered any problems.
In truth, George had a fondness for Giant Magic, not because he enjoyed close combat—as an elegant mage, he preferred to avoid it whenever possible.
He was afraid of dying, and close combat was far more dangerous than casting spells from a distance.
However, he knew that a mage's greatest weakness was their physical body. Even though a wizard's body was more resilient than an ordinary person's, a strike to a vital point could still be fatal.
But if he learned Giant Magic, this weakness could be greatly mitigated.
When an enemy, after enduring your spells, finally closes in, thinking they can teach you a lesson with their fists, you suddenly transform into a giant and show them what true despair feels like.
Most importantly, if he ever encountered magic immunity or anti-magic situations, Giant Magic could be used to enhance his physical strength, allowing him to deal significant damage and turn the tide.
