Marvel: The Sorcerer in America

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: First Contact with SHIELD Agents

"Hoho~" Strange noises escaped the mouths of the transformed children, resembling the sounds of wounded beasts. Foam dripped from the corners of their mouths, and their eyes were vacant, as if devoid of consciousness. They charged at Lance with terrifying ferocity, showing no hint of fear.

Lance quickly made his decision. Without hesitation, he formed hand seals at lightning speed, each movement precise and deliberate.

"*Rings of Raggadorr!*"

*Whoosh!*

A dazzling blue light suddenly engulfed the operating room, creating a flash that seemed to slice through the air. Interlocking blue chains formed a large net that separated the group of monster children and the three surgeons from the outside world.

"Hoho~"

"Hoho~"

The monster children could only thrash about in confusion. They didn't understand what was happening. Like mindless zombies, they growled and tore at the glowing blue energy chains, but despite their immense strength, they couldn't cause even a ripple.

Lance frowned, watching their futile attempts. "With your own strength, you can't break these chains, so just stop," Lance said flatly, turning and walking toward the increasingly panicked surgeon. Without warning, Lance delivered a punch to the man's nose, causing blood to pour out. "Speak honestly. Where are you hiding the spellbook?"

The surgeon glared at Lance with a gaze full of hatred, his eyes watering from the pain. "You…" The man clutched his bleeding nose, his eyes wide. "Impossible! Impossible! I've killed several Sorcerers; how could you—"

Lance sneered in disgust. "Idiot, Sorcerers are divided into levels too…" He paused, turning toward the operating room entrance with a serious expression.

A series of dull thuds echoed from the corridor leading into the operating room, shaking the walls and making the air grow increasingly tense.

...

Five minutes ago.

Two slender female agents, dressed in tight black pants and striking orange glasses, swiftly took down the guard at the elevator entrance with just a few quick and accurate shots.

"Coulson, the armed guard at the elevator entrance has been dealt with without drawing anyone's attention," reported the white female agent calmly as she pulled the fallen guard's body aside, ensuring no one was suspicious.

The Asian female agent next to her carefully pressed the intercom button, her gaze sharp and alert, reporting the situation's developments in a low but clear voice to the mission commander.

"Great job!!" Phil Coulson's voice came through the intercom, a slight smile on his face, though he maintained his composure. "There's still half an hour left in the control room shift. I'll go and hold off that 'buyer.' You and Barbara need to find the body modification area at the South Front in the meantime."

Barbara, who was busy checking the surroundings, interjected in a low voice, "Buyer? That gives me the creeps. Why does this always make me think of human traffickers?"

The Asian agent, Melinda, scoffed with a cynical tone. "Because in some cases, the two may not be mutually exclusive!"

Barbara sighed deeply, her eyes anxiously meeting Melinda's. "Melinda, your view of the world is too dark!"

Melinda frowned, then her voice returned low and more serious than before. "Because this world is fundamentally dark. After doing so many intelligence missions, why can't you see the true face of this world clearly?" Melinda paused for a moment, and with a sharper tone, she continued, "Look at what they've done? Transformed into monsters and sold... When I find those inhumane bastards, I will make them pay!"

"Melinda!" Coulson, as Melinda's long-time partner, immediately responded in a firm yet gentle voice. He understood the emotions Melinda felt, especially when it came to the suffering of children.

Although Melinda was one of the highly trained elite agents, she was very vulnerable to mood swings when faced with such cases. Coulson quickly reminded Melinda in a lower tone, "Even though the clues we have suggest this, our actions are not legitimate. We need to find strong and reliable evidence to bring these criminals to justice. You..."

"I know how to do it!" Before Coulson could finish his sentence, Melinda cut him off, her voice sharp and full of emotion, blocking Coulson from continuing. "Tell me your next step."

Coulson, long accustomed to Melinda's violent nature, simply nodded, unaffected by her sharp reprimand. He quickly replied, "The environmental scanner and micro-drones indicate that there are hidden generators and a complete water circulation system underground. There are about six armed guards, and a group of at least four people under the bright and visible lights... Oh, by the way, one of them is definitely an invisible human. You need to keep an eye on this person and maintain infrared detection."

"Understood!" Barbara immediately nodded and quickly moved to hide the fallen guard. She looked at Melinda with determination, "Let's go!"

"Good!" Melinda nodded, her eyes shining with enthusiasm.

The two female agents swiftly entered the elevator, pressing the button indicating their descent to the lower floor. After that, they quickly switched to their backup plan.

Like lizards climbing a wall, the two agents immediately jumped to the dead end of the elevator and hugged tightly there. Their advanced agent equipment, with electrostatic suckers on their palms, allowed them to climb the walls silently and in no time.

They moved as fast as shadows, ready to face whatever lay below.

Outside the elevator, six armed guards stood watch at the entrance. Although they were elite agents, being trapped in a confined space with so many guards remained a significant challenge.

The elevator began to descend slowly, its engine almost silent.

When the elevator stopped on the lower floor, the doors opened slowly. The guards standing in front of the door were stunned to see the empty elevator, only the steel walls reflecting the light from above.

"Go and check," the squad leader ordered cautiously, his face showing high alertness. The man then waved his hand, signaling two guards in front.

They moved forward cautiously, their eyes scanning every corner of the space around the elevator. Just as they entered the elevator and before they could observe clearly, two figures suddenly dove sharply from the darkness like leopards ready to attack.
