Chapter 89: Ch.89 Trying to Mediate, Defeated by Dark Magic
"So how did you use the scepter back then?" Charlie asked.
"There's actually no special technique."
Old Steve took the scepter, tested its weight, then turned and tapped the end of the scepter on Barton's chest.
Barton: "..."
I just woke up!
Seeing Barton rolling his eyes and fainting again, Old Steve grinned.
"Success."
Charlie sighed, "I want to know how to use the scepter to hypnotize others."
"That I can't help with."
Old Steve shrugged. "All I know is this."
"Fine. You head to Stark Tower and wait for Loki to show up. I'm going to try to mediate a fight."
"Meditate a fight?" Old Steve asked, puzzled.
"Yes, mediate. If I'm right, Tony and your counterpart from this world are about to duel."
"What?"
Old Steve looked incredulous. "Impossible. I've always had a good relationship with him; we would never fight."
Charlie rolled his eyes. "You once gave Tony a good beating."
"Who said that? That's slander, slander!"
"You said it."
...
Soon enough, in a deserted warehouse on the outskirts of New York...
"Got stuck in traffic, old popsicle?" Tony taunted from the rooftop.
Young Steve gripped his shield tightly, intending to vent all of his frustrations.
"Stark, I'm going to give you a good lesson."
Tony looked nonchalant, but the next moment his gaze shifted behind Steve.
A shadow sped through the forest, arriving within seconds.
He frowned and said, "We agreed that no one would call for backup."
Young Steve was taken aback. "I didn't call anyone."
Before he could turn around, a voice spoke from behind him: "On your left."
As the red-and-blue figure emerged from the shadows, Tony was instantly delighted.
"Oh, it's you, Spider-Man," he said with a smile.
Young Steve glanced back at Charlie, then said to Tony, "You called someone, little puppy."
"No, he followed on his own."
Tony stepped up to Charlie. "Good to see you. Since we last met, I've realized you might be from..."
"The multiverse, a parallel universe."
Charlie cut him off, then scanned the dark surroundings. "You two go ahead and fight, don't mind me."
Tony: "..."
"Aren't you here to help me?"
"I'm actually here to mediate."
"Doesn't look like it."
"I'm planning to mediate later."
With that, Charlie shot a web and swung onto the rooftop.
"What are you waiting for? You can start now," he urged.
Young Steve scowled. "You've brought a referee."
"Thanks for reminding me, the referee is on my side."
With that, Tony raised his hand and fired a repulsor blast.
Boom!
Instantly, Young Steve raised his shield to block the sudden pulse attack.
"You didn't even say 'start'!!" he shouted.
"It already started."
Tony's lips curled up as the Mark armor rose into the air, launching repulsor blasts at the ground below.
Boom!!
Amid the blasts, Young Steve rolled to evade, occasionally using his shield to deflect incoming pulses, gradually luring Tony into the abandoned warehouse.
Only by using the terrain to prevent Tony from taking flight would he have a chance to properly teach Tony a lesson.
Charlie simply watched the battle calmly, with no intention of intervening.
He wanted to see who would show up next.
Other than Venom Parker, it seemed unlikely that anyone could take down both Tony and Steve alone.
Of course, it could also happen if someone attacked successfully after they had worn each other out.
But when a circle of dark red firelight appeared in front of him, Charlie knew he had guessed wrong.
An eerie aura swept over him like a tide. His spider sense screamed a warning, and Charlie jumped back into the battlefield.
"Stop right now."
Amid the clash between Tony and Steve, Charlie raised one hand to block the pulse of electrical energy, while gripping the incoming shield with the other.
Whoosh~
A chilling wind swept past, and Charlie successfully mediated the fight.
"What?"
Seeing this, both Tony and Steve were stunned.
"How is that possible?" Young Steve wondered if he hadn't used enough force.
Tony, after a moment, laughed. "Nothing's impossible. Two years ago, he was even crazier—yeah, in his black suit."
Charlie tossed the shield back to Steve, then turned to look at the rooftop.
There, a dark red fiery portal opened, and a black-robed figure slowly emerged.
"That's..." Charlie furrowed his brows.
Tony also sensed the terrifying aura, and his expression became serious.
"Who is he?"
"The Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange."
"Sorcerer?"
Young Steve paused. "There are sorcerers now? I guess I really am outdated."
"Don't worry, I'm seeing a sorcerer for the first time too," Tony reassured.
Charlie shot them a glance. These two guys still didn't realize how serious this was.
As Strange slowly floated down, the chilling aura grew more intense, making everyone increasingly uneasy.
"He gives me a dark sorcerer vibe," Tony frowned, silently urging Jarvis to analyze the chilling energy around them.
Charlie took a deep breath. "You guessed right—he is a dark sorcerer."
Dark Strange... this was bad.
"What?" Steve was visibly startled.
Seeing this, Tony asked, "Do you know what a dark sorcerer is?"
Steve shook his head. "No, but it doesn't sound like a good person."
"Are you done talking?"
The next moment, Dark Stephen interrupted the three.
He wore a mocking smile, his brow shadowed as if something were wriggling beneath it. His face was gaunt, but it only added to his malevolent look.
"Didn't expect there'd be three of you—great."
With that, Dark Stephen's expression turned sinister, and he formed hand seals. Instantly, a dark magic circle erupted beneath the three of them.
"What?"
Before Tony and Steve could react, Charlie's figure burst out of the circle.
"You can't escape."
Dark Stephen sneered, flicking his fingers, causing grotesque dark ghost hands to shoot from the circle, climbing onto Tony and Steve, transforming into serpentine shapes that quickly spread throughout the warehouse.
"Hahaha~"
"Ooooo~~"
In an instant, the entire warehouse echoed with demonic whispers. Accompanied by the chilling howls, the dark ghost hands occupied most of the warehouse.
Seeing the ghost hands rushing towards him, Charlie felt a chill down his spine, his scalp tingling.
First time fighting a sorcerer, does it have to be this overwhelming?
Nervous, he pulled on his web.
Thwip, thwip, thwip-
In an instant, the terrifying ghost hands were severed by the web trap, but before Charlie could breathe a sigh of relief, the dark energy enveloped him again, the sorcerer's magic flickered, and the severed ghost hands reformed and wriggled.
"This damn trypophobia."
Charlie smashed his elbow through the wall and jumped out, only to find the outside enveloped in even denser, dark fog.
"Little bug, you can't escape."
