Chapter 84: Chapter 084 Absorbing The Energy Of Raw Stone.
As Thor walked out of Asgard's main hall, his face still held a mix of confusion and frustration.
He and Luo Bai strolled along the grand roads of the golden city. Unable to shake his thoughts, Thor finally asked, "Luo Bai, why is my father so good to you?"
"Because Asgard and Kamar-Taj are allies," Luo Bai replied with a slight smile.
Thor frowned. "Kamar-Taj? What exactly is that? Why have I never heard of it before? I didn't find any trace of it when I visited Earth either. And what's the story behind your title of Sorcerer Supreme?"
Luo Bai thought for a moment, then gave a simple explanation. "The Sorcerer Supreme is the title given to the most powerful sorcerer on Earth. As for Kamar-Taj… think of it as Earth's equivalent of Asgard. The Sorcerer Supreme's position in Kamar-Taj is like your father's position here in Asgard."
Thor finally understood a little, but one thing still puzzled him. "Earlier, you mentioned something to my father about Aether and the Dark World—what was that about?"
"You already know that Asgard rules over the Nine Realms, and the Dark World is one of them, right?" Luo Bai asked.
Thor nodded. "Yes. I've heard that Asgard defeated the Dark Elves and sealed the Dark World away."
Luo Bai continued, "The Aether is a weapon created by the Dark Elves' leader. It was originally an Infinity Stone—the Reality Stone. It was rumored to have been destroyed, but in reality, it was never lost. What you saw entering my body earlier… that was the Aether."
Thor's eyes widened slightly. "So that's what entered your body?" He looked more serious now. "Will it harm you?"
Luo Bai didn't answer right away.
Ordinarily, the Aether would be dangerous—it feeds off the life force of its host.
But with his own powerful Faerie energy suppressing it, the Aether not only caused him no harm, but even strengthened him.
After a brief pause, Luo Bai finally said, "It won't harm me."
Thor muttered under his breath, as if relieved. "That's good."
Noticing the faint smile on Luo Bai's face, he quickly added, "I'm not worried about you or anything. It's just that my father told me to look after you, so I can't let anything happen to you while you're here. And I haven't forgotten that you stole my hammer before—Father scolded me for it."
Luo Bai chuckled. "I do owe you an apology for that. But as the future King of Asgard, surely you wouldn't hold onto such a small grudge?"
The words future King of Asgard made Thor's mood lift instantly.
Just moments ago, he had been sulking. Now, he was practically beaming.
"Of course not!" he said proudly. "In fact, my father was right. As Asgard's future ruler, it is my responsibility to properly wield and protect my own weapon."
Luo Bai didn't comment further and simply continued, "The appearance of the Aether means the Dark Elves have awakened. They once sought to conquer the Nine Realms with the Aether, and now that they've returned, their first priority will be to reclaim it."
Hearing this, Thor's expression darkened. "You just said the Aether is inside you… doesn't that make you their number one target?"
Luo Bai nodded. "That's right. They'll be coming for me soon."
Thor frowned even deeper. "Then why would my father agree to let you stay in Asgard?"
Luo Bai was now the Dark Elves' prime target.
If Odin allowed him to remain in Asgard, wouldn't that be inviting disaster?
Even if Kamar-Taj and Asgard were allies, wouldn't it make more sense for Asgard to send troops to help Kamar-Taj rather than risk bringing the fight here?
Why would Odin endanger the entire realm over this?
Thor couldn't make sense of it. The more he thought about it, the more confused he became.
Luo Bai, seeing Thor's thoughts written plainly on his face, said, "Thor, I know what you're thinking. But you need to understand—Asgard was the one that sealed away the Dark World."
Thor's eyes flickered as he processed the words.
Luo Bai continued, "Even if I left Asgard right now, the Dark Elves would still send their army here. This war was inevitable the moment the Aether resurfaced.
Whether I stay or go, Asgard will face battle.
But if I stay… you'll have another strong fighter on your side, won't you?"
Thor took a deep breath as realization dawned on him.
That's true…
Asgard and the Dark Elves had been enemies for a long time. Even if Luo Bai wasn't here, the Dark Elves would attack Asgard eventually.
In that case, Luo Bai's presence wasn't a burden—it was an advantage.
No wonder Odin allowed him to stay.
But if the Dark Elves truly sent their forces… this wouldn't just be a battle over one person.
This would be a full-scale war between two worlds.
And though Luo Bai had seemed strong before…
But…
"Are you going to handle this alone? Don't you need to call for reinforcements?" Thor asked.
Luo Bai thought for a moment before replying, "I think I'm enough on my own."
Thor raised an eyebrow. "You're quite confident. Sure, Loki has suffered a lot at your hands, but a full-scale war is a different story. I have plenty of experience leading troops across the Nine Realms—you, on the other hand, have never fought in a war like this." He spoke with unmistakable pride.
Luo Bai smiled. "You're right. I've never fought in a world war before."
Hearing this, Thor puffed out his chest, looking even prouder. "I knew it! But don't worry. Since my father told me to look after you, I won't let anyone from the Dark World harm you. You'll be safe with me."
Thor spoke with unwavering confidence.
As they continued their conversation, they reached the door to Luo Bai's room.
Since Luo Bai still needed time to integrate his power, he said, "I'll rest for now."
Thor, eager to share his knowledge, immediately offered, "Do you want me to tell you about my battles in the Nine Realms? Maybe you could learn something useful."
Luo Bai declined without hesitation. "No, thanks."
Before Thor could respond, Luo Bai shut the door in his face.
Thor frowned, muttering under his breath, "Fine, don't listen. Mages… always playing with their little tricks. My brother is the same way."
With that, he turned and left.
Inside the room, Luo Bai let out a long sigh.
Finally… peace and quiet.
Taking a deep breath, he sat down, closed his eyes, and began meditating, focusing on the Reality Stone within him.
He wasn't sure how much time had passed when he finally grasped the stone's abilities and the laws governing it.
The most well-known ability of the Reality Stone was the power to alter reality. However, contrary to popular belief, a single Reality Stone wasn't powerful enough to rewrite the entire universe at will.
Its modifications had limits.
To put it simply, the changes made by the Reality Stone would vanish once they exceeded a certain range.
Luo Bai recalled a scene from the past—when Thanos obtained the Reality Stone, he had turned Mantis into paper.
But the moment he left, both Mantis and Drax returned to their original forms.
That happens because the Reality Stone alters reality by using its own energy.
If someone wanted to maximize its power and make the changes permanent, they would need to gather all six Infinity Stones.
The stones could supply energy to one another, amplifying their effects far beyond their individual capabilities.
Malekith, for example, wanted to use a single Reality Stone to transform all Nine Realms into a world of eternal darkness.
In theory, it was possible.
But to do so, he would need a constant, overwhelming source of energy to fuel the Reality Stone—otherwise, its influence would weaken the moment the affected area extended beyond its range.
Now that Luo Bai fully understood how the Reality Stone functioned, a new thought crossed his mind.
He already possessed three Infinity Stones.
Could he absorb the Faerie energy stored within them as well?
With that thought in mind, Luo Bai took out all three of his Infinity Stones and attempted to absorb their energy.
