Marvel: I can summon heroes from League of Legends

Chapter 102: Chapter 98. The Tesseract

The Tesseract, an artifact from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, contained one of the six Infinity Stones – the Space Stone. If shattered, this powerful Stone would be revealed within.

Originally, the Tesseract was in Asgardian possession. Following a war between Asgard and the Frost Giants on Earth in ancient times, Odin decided to leave the artifact on Earth. At that time, Asgard already possessed an Infinity Stone, and he deemed it unsafe to keep both Stones together – it might attract too much unwanted attention. Despite Asgard's power, the universe held plenty of madmen willing to risk everything for such power. Therefore, the decision was made to keep the Stones separate.

Over time, the Tesseract fell into the hands of the Red Skull, the leader of Hydra, who used it to create advanced energy weapons. He was subsequently defeated by Captain America, and the Tesseract came into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s possession. Their scientists began studying it, and Nick Fury decided to use it to develop energy weapons, similar to what the Red Skull had done.

Fury recruited Dr. Erik Selvig, one of Thor's three good friends on Earth, for the research. During the study, the Tesseract proved extremely unstable. Taking advantage of this instability, Loki, using his scepter containing the Mind Stone, managed to pinpoint its location and opened a portal leading to it.

Recently, Noah sensed that the Tesseract's energy was showing signs of instability. If Thanos decided to invade Earth, it could happen soon. He understood that he needed to prepare for this in advance.

As for the Chitauri invasion of New York, he wasn't sure what consequences it might have for the city. He wasn't a saint who cared about all of humanity. The Chitauri invasion could be beneficial for him – it would give him the opportunity to complete a high-level mission and possibly acquire their spaceship.

He also thought about the residents of New York: "Free America, where shootings happen every day... I'm sure the locals can stand up for themselves."

He could only wish them luck. However, judging by the movie's plot, the Chitauri army was limited by the size of the portal created by the Tesseract and couldn't invade Earth all at once – they appeared individually over New York.

Noah was confident he could handle these scattered forces before the portal widened. Especially since the Avengers would be helping him. It was only important to evacuate civilians in advance, and then the situation would be resolved in the best possible way: he would complete his mission, and New York would remain relatively unharmed.

Of course, everything depended on how events unfolded. After all, the plot had already changed – Loki was in prison, and it was unknown who would appear in his place. But he assumed it might be the Black Order – Thanos's elite warriors. After all, besides them, Thanos didn't have any other trusted lieutenants in the movie.

"War will come – we will defend ourselves. There's no point in worrying now; it's better to focus on completing today's missions," Noah thought.

He was confident in his abilities. Thanos wouldn't appear soon, and he could defeat his minions without much effort. Therefore, he decided not to bother with unnecessary thoughts – he still had a busy day ahead of him.

For the past four days, he had been completing one C-rank mission every day, receiving 400 Essence for each. Since nothing serious was happening, he only had to eliminate petty thugs in Hell's Kitchen.

Whoosh~ (portal opens)

"Aaah!!" (cry of pain)

[Mission complete, Summoner receives 100 Essence]

Whoosh~ (portal closes)

Soon Noah completed the mission, earning 100 Essence and several unholy souls.

{Current Essence: 3500 units}

"After the battle for New York, I think I'll have enough Essence again for another round of 10-scroll draws."

Closing his inventory, he went about his business.

...

In the S.H.I.E.L.D. office, Nick Fury sat at his desk. His dark face was expressionless, but the gesture with which he rubbed his forehead betrayed fatigue and irritation. He had already managed to organize Captain America's daily activities and even attended a meeting of the World Security Council.

The world was changing too fast, and he was barely keeping up with all the challenges. The problems associated with Tony Stark had temporarily faded into the background, but now a new superhero had appeared on the horizon – the Storm Swordsman. The higher-ups persistently demanded that he ascertain the hero's identity. He knew who this hero really was but couldn't reveal his identity. After all, behind him stood not only powerful AI and technology far surpassing the current level, but also an entire unknown organization. Fury understood that it was not worth provoking dangerous people.

In addition, the appearance of Thor and Loki added even more problems. These two Norse gods confirmed the existence of Asgard – a mythical realm that had now become reality. After receiving this information, the World Security Council tasked S.H.I.E.L.D. with studying Asgard. But how to do this when it was impossible to even get there? All Fury knew was that the Bifrost could teleport them through space, but that was it.

Nick sent agents to interview Thor's friends who had visited Asgard, but all they could learn was that Asgardian feasts were very merry. He ironically thought that the only thing missing was handing out children's books about Asgard to the agents and making them study myths as real information.

With a heavy sigh, he reported to the World Security Council, which, however, did not accept his plan to create a team of powerful heroes – the Avengers. The Council insisted on continuing work on the second phase of the Tesseract project, aimed at creating energy weapons. He reluctantly agreed to postpone the Avengers initiative, focusing on finding scientists capable of understanding the cosmic artifact.

One suitable candidate was Dr. Erik Selvig, a friend of Thor, who had extensive knowledge in the field of space and dimensions. Fury decided that he was ideal for researching the Tesseract.

With these thoughts, he summoned Agent Phil Coulson and instructed him to handle the matter.

"Coulson, take care of this."

"No problem, Director," Coulson replied before inquiring about his idol's condition.

"How's the Captain doing?"

"Steve? He's coming around," Fury replied. "Want to see him?"

"No, perhaps it's better to wait until he's fully adjusted," Coulson said. Although he was a big fan of Captain America, he understood that now was not the best time for visits.

Coulson left to find Erik Selvig and bring him to the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. laboratory. Fury, left alone, once again sank into thought. Another thing that worried him was the information received from Noah about a traitor within the organization. The investigation hadn't progressed, and if the situation didn't change, he would be forced to use his clandestine methods.

His eyes glinted as he considered his next steps.

Too many unexpected things had happened in such a short period.
