Chapter 188: Chapter 188: A Coincidence
The appearance of Hulk had left many injured. Groups of people huddled together, supporting each other, their faces painted with sheer terror. The fear in their eyes was unmistakable as they stared at Hulk with dread.
This fear only fueled Hulk's rage further. Even in normal circumstances, he was far from liked by the public. Now, under the influence of the Laughing Virus, his mind had spiraled into madness.
The slightest hint of rejection or disdain from others became magnified in his distorted perception, driving him into an even more frenzied state.
Several police cars had encircled Hulk, blocking off both ends of the street. Snipers were stationed atop nearby buildings, their rifles trained on him.
Every officer had their guns pointed at Hulk, their expressions filled with unconcealed disdain. Faced with a being of such overwhelming power, humanity's first instinct was annihilation—coexistence seemed impossible.
Even with the title of "Avenger" attached to his name, Hulk was still met with widespread fear and hostility. His inability to control himself made him a walking disaster.
Faced with such an uncontrollable threat, how could anyone not be afraid?
Sensing the scorn directed at him, Hulk's crimson eyes grew even darker. He glanced around before his gaze locked onto a manhole cover at his feet. Bending down, he ripped it free and hurled it with all his strength at a group of nearby police officers.
The sheer speed of the flying "disk" was far beyond what ordinary humans could evade. It hurtled toward the officers faster than they could even take a step.
Just as the manhole cover was about to strike, it came to an abrupt stop in midair, hovering as though caught by an invisible hand.
"Too many people are here. We need to restrain him before he causes more destruction!"
A low, calm voice rang out from a distance. Several figures moved against the panicked crowd, walking directly toward Hulk. One of them, a refined-looking man, raised his right hand toward the manhole cover. With a simple motion, the cover reversed direction, flying back with force and slamming into Hulk's stomach, sending him staggering backward.
The one who intervened was none other than Charles, who wielded the power to control magnetic fields. Stepping forward, he surveyed the area, his gaze growing sharp.
Raising both hands, Charles extended them outward. The debris from the shattered cars around him began to rise into the air. With a commanding gesture, he pushed the fragments toward Hulk. However, rather than directly attacking, the metal pieces formed a tight cage around the green giant, locking him in.
Stark, watching from nearby, was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected his newly acquainted friend to possess such extraordinary abilities. Turning to Han Yu, he asked, "Isn't Charles a scientist? How does he have powers like that?"
Han Yu chuckled, realizing he hadn't yet explained Charles' dual identity. "He is a scientist," Han Yu replied, "but he's also a mutant—a human with a mutated gene. There are many others like him. Charles and I started a school to provide a safe haven for mutants."
"Impressive," Stark admitted. "I didn't know such an institution existed. He must be the principal, right?"
Han Yu gave a helpless smile, but before he could respond, Charles spoke up from the front.
"I'm the vice-principal. Han Yu is the principal. He just likes to leave all the work to me, though. I handle most of the school's affairs," Charles said with a slight grin.
Han Yu shook his head in exasperation. "What do you mean, leave all the work to you? I never even wanted to be the principal in the first place!"
Stark nodded thoughtfully, surprised by the dynamic between the two. However, his mind quickly moved to a more troubling realization.
If they had to establish a school specifically for mutants, it meant there were a significant number of them. And with that many mutants, the potential for both good and bad incidents would inevitably increase.
Frowning slightly, Stark felt a sense of urgency. This wasn't ideal for him. He would need to accelerate the development of his technology. "It looks like I'll need to design suits that can't be manipulated by abilities like his. Not to counter Charles, of course, but to prepare for the possibility of mutant attacks. Once this matter with Hulk is settled, I'll have to ask Charles for more details. Maybe even invest in the school—it could be a smart move."
As Stark pondered his next move, two streaks of fiery light blazed across the sky and descended to the ground—it was Stark's Iron Man armor, finally arriving. Without hesitation, he approached the human-sized suit and climbed into it.
Moments later, he activated his repulsor beams and flew to the top of the Hulkbuster armor. The Hulkbuster's head compartment immediately opened, allowing him to enter.
Fully equipped with dual layers of armor, Stark declared confidently, "Leave it to me!"
Without delay, the sound of energy charging resonated as his palm repulsor cannon began to glow. A searing beam of laser energy shot out, hitting the sphere of iron that encased Hulk.
Rather than attacking Hulk directly, Stark was using the heat to weld the iron fragments together, reinforcing the makeshift cage.
Wherever the metal seemed insufficient or gaps remained, Charles promptly manipulated additional pieces of metal to fill the voids.
The two exchanged a knowing glance and smiled. Despite their short acquaintance, they shared an unspoken synergy. Working together seamlessly, they quickly managed to restrict Hulk's movements.
But the victory was short-lived. The next moment, a blinding light erupted from within the gaps of the metal sphere. Hulk, with his monstrous strength, shattered the carefully constructed cage as though it were made of paper.
"ROAR!"
A low but thunderous roar erupted from Hulk's mouth, the sheer force of it causing the ordinary people nearby to clutch their heads in pain. Just his voice alone was enough to overwhelm them.
With a ferocious gleam in his eyes, Hulk clenched his fist and charged at Han Yu and the others. His fist radiated a faint green glow, and the sharp sonic boom generated mid-swing pierced through the air, leaving everyone's ears ringing in agony.
This attack was far more violent than anything Hulk had unleashed before. Now, he seemed to be harnessing the nuclear-like energy within his body, pushing his strength to terrifying new heights.
Among Han Yu's group, only one person was capable of standing toe-to-toe with Hulk in terms of raw power—Ultron.
In the blink of an eye, Ultron stepped forward from Han Yu's side. His usually calm and indifferent gaze turned sharp and menacing. Confronting the rampaging Hulk, he opted for the simplest and most direct approach.
He met force with force.
Even with his towering frame of nearly two meters, Ultron still appeared small compared to Hulk. His fist was dwarfed to the point where it barely matched half the size of Hulk's pinky nail.
And yet, that tiny fist punched forward without an ounce of hesitation.
"You want to test your strength? You're still a bit too green!" Ultron sneered, his sharp gaze now brimming with ruthless intent. With an unadorned, straightforward punch, he aimed directly at Hulk's massive fist.
When the two fists collided, an enormous shockwave erupted from the impact point, sending a fierce gust of wind blasting outward. The sheer force tore through the nearby police barricades and sent several bystanders flying.
