Chapter 28: The truth?
Bruce's eyes widened after hearing Magneto's words. It's not the mention of Brainiac's name but the last part... 'Infinity-Powered core and Tony Stark's body.' This means that someone preserved his past life's body and the mention of 'infinity-powered' means that when he snapped his fingers wearing the infinity gauntlet, a portion of infinity energy must have fused with his body, Tony's body. If so, then it must be either Shield or someone else who kept his body in some lab.
It made Bruce angry. Even after sacrificing everything in the past, he was betrayed and now, they dared to mess with his dead body.
He grabbed Magneto by his throat and looked into his eyes, "They preserved Tony's body?"
Magneto nodded. "Yes. You think they would let all that residual energy go to waste? That wife of his, Pepper Potts... She... She is the one behind it."
"Alright, Eric. Tell me everything. The location and the people involved. I want to know everything," Bruce this time didn't waste any time. He took out a truth serum injection from his suit's utility storage and jammed it into Magneto's neck without any warning.
"Aaarghh!!! FUCK!!!"
Magneto felt his head spin as the truth serum took effect. His lips were no longer under his control. Everything he knew, everything he saw was forced out of him.
Magneto gasped, the truth serum forcing his mind to unravel every secret he'd buried. His body trembled as the confession began, starting from the darkest corners of his hidden knowledge.
"It started after the battle with Thanos... Tony's body was collected under strict orders. Fury was behind it. He saw the potential in the residual energy, in the body... more than anyone else."
Bruce's grip tightened. "Where?"
Magneto shook his head. "I... I don't know the exact location. It's hidden in one of their most secure black sites. Shield was dissolved, but its remnants? They've been operating in the shadows, setting up secret facilities around the world. This one, in particular... it was never meant to be found."
Bruce's eyes narrowed. "And Pepper?"
Magneto's lips curled into a bitter smile. "She... she wanted to preserve his legacy. To protect it. She believed the energy from Tony's body could be used for good, but Fury, that bastard, saw it differently. He wanted to weaponize it. Make an ultimate deterrent. He wanted to create something that could face future threats—bigger than Thanos. Something capable of wiping out entire armies, worlds if necessary."
Bruce's expression darkened further, the cold weight of betrayal sinking into his core.
"Strange was against it," Magneto continued. "He tried to stop Fury, warned him about tampering with the energy of the dead. Said that it would disrupt the balance of the universe, bring chaos... but Fury didn't listen. He never does. Strange vanished after that confrontation. No one has seen him since."
Bruce took a slow, controlled breath. "And you don't know where Tony's body is?"
"No," Magneto replied weakly. "They keep it moving, shifting between facilities to avoid detection. But Pepper… she's the only one who knows for sure. She was the only one trusted with that kind of information. Fury may have controlled the operation, but Pepper... she had the final say in everything that happened to Tony's body."
Bruce's face twisted into a grim expression. The idea that the people Tony trusted most, even his wife, would allow his body to be desecrated like this churned his insides with rage.
"And one last thing," Bruce's voice dropped an octave, icy and sharp. "Since you know so much... Tell me, who tampered with Tony's suit during the war? Who rigged it?"
Magneto's face paled, and his mouth opened, the words spilling out before he could stop them.
"It was Pepper," he whispered. "As far as I found out from Tony's AI core, everything points to her. She was the last person to access the mainframe."
Bruce's fist clenched around Magneto's throat, pure fury rippling through him. All this time, the people who claimed to love and honor Tony had betrayed him. While he had been struggling to protect the world, they'd been busy working against him. And Bruce didn't know which was worse: the fact that the woman he loved so much might be responsible for his death, or that he'd fallen for her deception hook, line and sinker.
For years, he'd looked into her eyes and believed he knew everything. He thought that he'd seen a kind, gentle soul who was devoted to helping others. But now, he realized that he'd only seen what she wanted him to see. All the while, she'd been keeping secrets, manipulating him, using his feelings for her as a distraction while she worked to destroy everything he believed in.
Bruce let Magento go and glanced at Harley. "Take him to the chamber and make sure to give him a painful death."
Harley grinned and grabbed Magneto by the collar. "Sure, boss."
As she dragged the helpless man away into the underground base, Bruce stayed there frozen in thought for a moment. Then he glanced toward the Sentinel X. "Elena, who rigged my suit back then?"
"Directories deleted, data corrupted."
"So, they managed to corrupt even your data," Bruce shook his head.
"Affirmative."
He closed his eyes and exhaled slowly. "Alright."
Bruce calmed his nerves down. He needs to find the truth and being hot-headed won't help with that. So, he decided to stay calm. Now that he's back in the Marvel world, it's only a matter of time before he gets all the answers he seeks. After that, the traitors will be killed in the most painful way possible, be it his wife or loved ones.
He turned around and walked back into the underground base. Right now, his priority should be to get some rest and prepare for his next move. Although his evolved body doesn't require rest, mentally, he is tired. He needed time to arrange his thoughts.

[Next day] [Wakanda]
The morning after Magneto's fall, the skies over Wakanda were clear, but the air still carried the heavy scent of smoke and ash. The capital city, once a gleaming beacon of African advancement, was now a ruin of twisted metal and scorched earth. Elena had carried out her mission to perfection, and Magneto's forces were no more. Yet, the victory came at a tremendous cost—not just to Wakanda, but to the world.
Shuri and the remaining Wakandan forces landed back in the capital just as the dust began to settle. Her eyes widened at the sheer scale of the destruction. Buildings were reduced to rubble, streets lay broken and torn apart, and everywhere she looked, there were the bodies of Magneto's fallen soldiers. Yet despite the devastation, she felt something akin to hope. Wakanda was free, but now came the hardest part: rebuilding.
As Shuri descended from the ship, her personal guard, Okoye, walked up beside her. "Wakanda is ours again. But at what cost?"
Shuri nodded, her eyes filled with determination and sadness. "The price was high, Okoye. Too high. But we will rebuild. We have no other choice. Our people need us now more than ever."
Behind them, the surviving Wakandan citizens began to emerge from their hiding places. Men, women, and children who had endured years of Magneto's reign stood in silence, looking toward Shuri for guidance. For a moment, it seemed as though the weight of the world rested on her shoulders.
"We begin again," Shuri finally said, her voice steady. "We will rebuild. Not just our city, but our lives, our culture. Wakanda will rise stronger than ever."
She gazed across the cityscape, her mind already racing with plans on how to restore Wakanda's technology, its vibranium infrastructure, and most importantly, its spirit.
Okoye nodded firmly, her spear planted into the ground. "As long as we breathe, Wakanda will rise."
...
While Wakanda mourned and began the process of rebuilding, the rest of the world watched in a mix of awe and terror as the events unfolded. Magneto's mutant empire, which had taken nearly a decade to construct, was dismantled in mere hours. The world governments, once powerless against the might of mutants, now saw an opportunity. And leading the charge was none other than William Stryker.
With the fall of Magneto came a global shift in the perception of mutants. Once considered oppressed, mutants were now widely viewed as the source of much of the world's chaos. Governments scrambled to contain the remaining mutant population. Stryker, who had been quietly gaining influence over the years, seized this moment with ruthless precision.
In a televised speech that was broadcast globally, Stryker addressed the world from a fortified military base.
"We gave Mutant kind a chance more than once. A chance to prove us wrong. A chance to do better," Stryker began, his voice calm yet authoritative. "But what we have witnessed in the last decade... the horrors inflicted upon humanity by Magneto and his kind... It just cannot be ignored. They have shown their true nature. They are not like us. They are a threat to humanity's survival, and we will not allow another war like this to happen ever again."
Stryker paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. "As of today, we are rolling out a global initiative—the Mutant Cure. This cure, developed in partnership with the world's brightest minds, will rid those afflicted of their mutations. It will give them a chance at a normal life. A human life."
Behind him, massive screens displayed images of the cure being administered in labs worldwide. "For those who refuse to take the cure... they will be dealt with. We will not hesitate to eradicate any mutant who poses a threat to human society. The time has come for us to work together for a safer future."
The message was clear: comply or face destruction.
...
Back in Wakanda, news of the global mutant purge reached Shuri and her team. As she stood in the central communications hub, she listened in silence as Stryker's speech played over the global channels.
"This will only worsen the divide," Shuri murmured, shaking her head. "They're not offering a cure—they're offering extermination. Humanity can't afford another Mutant uprising. That insane man..."
Okoye, standing beside her, crossed her arms. "The world has always feared what it doesn't understand."
"But this is different," Shuri said, her voice darkening. "This isn't fear. This is genocide, masked as salvation."
Despite her growing unease, Shuri knew there was little Wakanda could do on the global stage at the moment. The nation was still in shambles, and her priority was to secure Wakanda's future. Yet the plight of mutants worldwide weighed heavily on her heart.
