Chapter 27: Magneto's choices
The skies over Wakanda darkened, not from storm clouds, but from the sentinels spreading out. As Shuri and the Wakandan warriors sped away in their stolen ships, Magneto's forces inside the capital had no idea that their most devastating enemy was about to strike from within. Although they knew about the prison breakout, they never imagined things to be this bad.
Elena had full access to Wakanda's remaining technological infrastructure, including the sentinels Magneto had scattered throughout the country. Every sensor, weapon, and automated defense system now fell under her command. Sentinel X's capabilities were more than what anyone had imagined. All it required was a new code that Elena was writing while Shuri and the others were escaping. With that complete, it's time...
She initiated the purge.
The giant figure of Sentinel X came to life. Its massive frame rumbled as it activated, stepping forward from its dormant position. Its eyes flared to life with an ominous red glow as it flew into the sky, shattering the building it was housed in. Elena observed everything from her digital vantage point. Wakanda's automated turrets, initially designed to defend the city, swiveled with deadly accuracy and locked onto Magneto's guards.
Her first target was the eastern outpost.
The turrets fired in unison, beams of plasma slicing through the air. Within seconds, Magneto's elite forces were cut down where they stood. Their advanced armor meant to resist most physical attacks, proved useless against the sheer power of Wakanda's weaponry under Elena's ruthless control.
"Target eliminated," She coldly noted to herself.
But she wasn't done. Far from it.
...
[Magneto's Palace]
Far below, in the luxurious yet fortified palace Magneto had claimed as his own, the mutant leader was watching the situation unfold on his monitors. His sharp eyes narrowed as he saw a flicker of movement—his security systems were starting to shut down, one by one. The air felt heavy, charged with static. Something was terribly wrong.
"Report!" he barked at his guards.
"We're losing control of the sentinels, sir!" one of the technicians cried, his fingers flying across the control panel in a desperate attempt to regain access. "The network's been compromised. Someone's hijacked—"
"I know!" Magneto cut him off, his voice seething with rage. His eyes darted toward the hidden access tunnels beneath the palace. His escape plan. He couldn't afford to lose Wakanda, but the thought of losing his life was even less appealing. He had to move now, while he still could.
He didn't know who was behind this attack, but it was clear that his once-iron grip on Wakanda was slipping. Turning on his heel, Magneto marched toward the hidden tunnel that led deep underground. The tunnels had been carved out beneath the city, hidden from even Wakanda's most advanced sensors. He thought they would offer him sanctuary from any threat.
He was wrong.
...
[Outside]
From Sentinel X's massive chest, a swarm of smaller drones were deployed, each one carrying plasma charges. They spread across the capital, attacking key strongholds of Magneto's forces. Drones buzzed through the air, hunting down mutant soldiers and obliterating them with perfect precision.
The turrets unleashed torrents of plasma fire, cutting down Magneto's mutants in flashes of blinding light. The air hummed with the energy of the onslaught, and within moments, dozens of Magneto's soldiers lay dead. The few who tried to fight back were met with overwhelming force, as drones swarmed them, attaching to their armor and detonating with surgical precision. Explosions rocked the capital, fire, and smoke filling the air as Magneto's forces were systematically dismantled.
Elena felt no remorse even though she was capable of understanding human emotions because to her it was simple: they had enslaved, killed, and exploited Wakanda for too long. Now with a final command from her creator, Bruce Wayne, this was the means by which justice was carried out.
Blood, smoke, explosions, screams... Justice was served on a bloody platter...
...
[Back to Magneto]
Deep beneath Wakanda, Magneto moved quickly through the tunnels, his mind racing. How had this happened? Who could have broken through his defenses so easily? He was certain of one thing: whoever had done this was not working alone. Shuri, the Wakandans, they had help. He'd underestimated them.
As he rounded a corner, the ground above him trembled. He paused, eyes narrowing, as dust rained down from the ceiling of the tunnel. Something was coming—something big. A low rumble echoed through the underground passage, and then, without warning, the ground split open.
A massive drill, spinning with brutal efficiency, burst through the ceiling of the tunnel, scattering rocks and debris everywhere. Magneto raised his hand instinctively, his magnetic powers flaring to life, but it was Sentinel X. His power won't work on it anymore due to its instant adaptation.
"Impossible!" Magneto snarled, retreating backward as the sentinel dropped down through the hole. Its body shrunk to that of a human being.
Elena, speaking through the sentinel's speakers, her voice cold and emotionless, echoed in the enclosed space. "Surrender."
Magneto's fury boiled over, and with a wave of his hand, the tunnel's metallic infrastructure bent to his will, sending metal beams and jagged shards flying toward the sentinel. But Sentinel X was prepared. Elena had already calculated every possible attack Magneto could launch. Energy shields flared to life, deflecting the debris with ease.
"Second warning. Stand down and surrender," Elena warned.
Magneto's next attack was more desperate. He flung out his arms, and the very earth beneath him began to shift, pulling metallic ore from the ground, turning them into sharp shards, and hurling it at Sentinel X. But for all his power, he was no match for Elena's precision. The sentinel just stood there releasing its own magnetic pulse, nullifying Magneto's power.
"Enough," Elena's voice rang out.
From Sentinel X's arm, a massive cannon extended. In a single, deafening blast, the cannon fired, sending a shockwave through the tunnel. Magneto was thrown back, slamming into the far wall with enough force to shatter the rock. He crumpled to the ground, his magnetic field faltering.
Elena had done it. She had him.
The sentinel moved forward and grabbed Magneto by the throat. The mutant leader struggled, weakly attempting to summon his powers, but he was drained—his body too battered to fight back.
"You've lost," Elena said, her voice devoid of any sympathy. "Your reign is over."
Magneto glared up at the sentinel, his eyes filled with hatred. "You… you think this will end it? You think you can kill me and stop what I've built?"
"Yes. Not only in Wakanda but around the world, everything you have built, I've already destroyed. So, yes, I can and I have..." Elena replied before using sleeping gas to knock Magneto out. She then injected him with nanoparticles to destroy his mutation. It was easy for Sentinel X's capabilities.
Magneto lost to his own creation and now became the very human he once hated.
...
[The Global Purge]
Elena shifted her focus back to the global stage. Her control of Wakanda's sentinels extended far beyond the borders of the nation. Magneto had stationed his forces around the world, spreading his mutant army like a plague across key locations. But now, with him defeated, Elena's task was to eliminate them all.
Sentinels stationed in far-flung regions received her orders. They turned on their former allies, engaging Magneto's mutant legions in brutal, one-sided combat. In New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, and various other places, the sentinels continued hunting down Magneto's lieutenants and wiping them out ruthlessly.
The world watched in awe and terror as Magneto's empire crumbled in mere hours. The mutant rebellion he had sparked, the regime he had built on the ashes of human governments, was being dismantled piece by piece. Elena showed no mercy. Every stronghold, every mutant hideout was eradicated.
The power of Wakanda's technology, when turned against its enemies, was absolute.
It took less than an hour for the last of Magneto's henchmen to be disposed of.
Smoke rose from the ruins of what had once been Magneto's headquarters, and the skies were clear—no more sentinels patrolled the skies, no more mutants terrorized the streets.
The war was finally over...
...
After concluding her global purge, Elena controlled the Sentinels and brought them back to Bruce Wayne, who was standing on top of the ruins of the Stark Tower with Harley by his side.
Elena threw Magneto before Bruce's feet.
"The purge is successful," She coldly declared.
Bruce lifted Magneto by the back of his hair and looked into his eyes with a cold expression. "Tell me, how does it feel to see all your efforts crushed, Erik?"
"Well played," Erik told him. "Well played. That's the only thing I have to say. You managed to tear us apart from the inside while using what I had created to defeat me. So, I guess this is it. Tell me your name before you kill me."
"Kill you?" Bruce raised his eyebrow. "Oh, no. Death is too easy a punishment for someone like you. So, we'll talk about your fate later. First thing first, I doubt you pulled all this shit alone without anyone's help. Who is it? Give me a name. Or don't. In the latter case, I'll get to torture you myself, which I'm not complaining about."
"Wow. You're a real psychopath, aren't you?" Erik snickered. "Well, maybe it's for the best. The one who is behind me... You can not fathom his power."
"Blah, blah, blah... Give me a name, fucker," Bruce used his heat vision to pierce two holes through his right shoulder.
"ARGGGG!! FUCK!" Magneto screamed, tears running down his eyes from the extreme pain.
"He did all those inhumane things to those kids, Bats. He died in my arms. I... I couldn't even do anything to save him..." Harley said as she clenched her fists tightly thinking of countless ways to torture Magneto. She wanted to make his demise as painful and agonizing as possible. "Give him to me after you are done with him. He needs to suffer. He needs to experience true suffering... I'll give him everything he deserves... No, I'll give him hell."
"Not to worry. You'll have your chance," Bruce replied as he shifted his focus on Magneto. "So, a name, please."
Magento refused to open his mouth despite the pain.
"You know, I heard you had a family once... Do you know that your son survived? Tell me the truth and I'll give you a chance to see his face," Bruce said softly.
Magneto's eyes widened upon hearing his son's survival. Could it be possible for him?
"No, no, no... You are bluffing. He died. My family is gone. How dare you lie to me!? You evil BASTARD!!"
"Hahahaha! Now I'm an evil bastard. Have you seen yourself in the mirror lately, huh?" Bruce mocked him, roaring with laughter.
But he soon stopped laughing and became serious.
"And no, I'm not. At least, he was still alive before Thanos's war. The kid never knew his father. But I don't know if he's still alive after all this killing shit you've pulled all these years. Now I can track him down if he's still alive in a split second. So, out with it. A name. I won't ask again. If you speak anything other than a name, then I'll track down your boy. If he's still alive, I'll bring him here and kill him in front of your eyes. I won't allow the blood of a stupid fuck like you to carry on. Who knows, maybe he'll become like you in the future."
Magneto took a deep breath. The pain was nothing compared to witnessing his own son die. If there was any truth to Bruce's threat, he had to take the chance.
"Brainiac," Magneto muttered under his breath. "He contacted me and gave me a choice. Supply him with genetic samples of super-powered people and he would leave Earth alone. And if not... He'll seal our world in a tiny globe and add it to his collection. I tried to warn them, but no one listened. So, I made a choice. I... Those sentinels I created were to face him. I slaughtered my own kind so that I could build a sufficient force strong enough to deal with him."
'Fuck! That dimension ripper... It must have messed up with space and time. Brainiac too was sucked into it. Tsk. Bastard must have arrived here years ago.' Bruce gritted his teeth at the reality. "How long do we have?"
"He'll be here in five years. You'll see. I... I've tried... I did... I had no other choice. Someone had to be the bad guy. Sacrifice thousands to save the entire planet. I made that choice when no one dared. I was in the final phase. If only you were a week late, I would have created a perfect Sentinel with infinity infinity-powered core. I was this close to obtaining Tony Stark's body... But it's all over now. That's it. Go ahead, do what you want," Magneto said as he gave up the fight.
