Chapter 50: Three ribs broken
Joanne rushed out of the dining room, still trying to calm her racing heart.
Keleb was already waiting for her outside.
"Let's go," she muttered, slipping into the car.
As soon as she was inside, she exhaled deeply, pressing her palms against her warm cheeks.
How was she supposed to face Alexander again after this?
She groaned.
Keleb glanced at her through the rearview mirror but said nothing as he drove off.
As soon as Joanne left, Frederick walked in.
He gave a slight nod before wheeling Alexander out of the dining room and toward his car.
On the way to the office Alexander was in hight spirit, all smiles.
Thinking of Joanne's reaction just now he didn't when he bust out laughing.
Frederick was in shock, as he had never seen is boss smile or laugh since the accident 6years ago but now his boss In front of him was smiling and he even laughed.
Though the sound was scary.
On getting to his office, once the office door was closed Alexander became serious.
"Report."
Frederick handed him a tablet, his expression unreadable.
"Everything has been handled. The man who tried to take Mrs King was sent to the hospital. He barely made it out alive after the… 'lesson' our men gave him."
Alexander's gaze darkened.
"And Sophia?"
"She's been trying to reach the man all night, but she has no idea what happened yet."
Alexander smirked coldly.
"She will soon."
Frederick continued, "We also confirmed that Charles Baker has finally backed off from investigating you. He tried looking into the rest of the King family, but after Darren warned him, he stopped."
Alexander nodded.
Meanwhile, Sophia's Panic
Sophia sat in a private lounge, her fingers tapping against the table impatiently.
It was already morning.
Where're the pictures?!
She had called the man over ten times since last night, but he wasn't answering.
Her teeth clenched in frustration.
Something felt off.
She dialed another number.
A few moments later, her private investigator picked up.
"Find out what happened to my guy last night," she ordered.
Half an hour later, her phone rang again.
She picked up immediately.
"What did you find out?"
The investigator hesitated before speaking.
"The man you hired… was taken to the hospital last night. He was nearly beaten to death."
Sophia froze.
"What?!"
"It was brutal," the investigator continued. "His jaw was dislocated, three ribs broken, and both hands crushed."
Sophia's hands turned icy cold.
How?
Who?!
Did Joanne have someone protecting her?!
Her grip on the phone tightened.
She refused to believe this was a coincidence.
