Ch 14
Chapter 14: Seeker
Ye Ze was a decisive person. When he said he wanted to cultivate farmland, early the next morning, he dragged the clueless little snake sub-beast and started farming.
First, he used his abilities to remove the grass in front of the cave entrance. Only a small part was left to serve as greenery until the crops grew.
Although the neatly arranged square boxes with strips of grass on the bare black soil didn’t look very appealing, it was what it was.
The little grasses pulled their roots out of the soil and relocated, one by one, into the forest outside the farmland. This ensured the farmland remained clean and also helped loosen the soil.
They were definitely the outstanding employees of the wilderness.
The little snake sub-beast watched Ye Ze send away the grass, feeling extremely reluctant.
Nuo Nuo already missed the lush grassland where he could roll around. Even so, the little snake sub-beast didn’t speak up and voice opposition to Ye Ze.
The emotions of helplessness and the easy and joyful experience package increased together.
Ye Ze, soft-hearted and feeling sorry, finally stopped teasing him.
“?” The little grasses came back!
The little snake sub-beast widened his eyes in surprise.
One by one, large and thriving grasses were selected, relocated, and arranged to create an even lusher grassland than before. Occasionally, beautiful wildflowers were scattered, swaying in the breeze.
It was the appearance Nuo Nuo liked!
The disappointed tail tip of the little snake sub-beast suddenly bounced up, swaying twice. Joyful.
Indeed, the experience package was more “worth buying.”
Ye Ze’s mood also soared, and he touched the dumbfounded guy’s fluff hair that stood up in joy. “The grassy area on the right is reserved for dining and leisure in the future. Once we finish preparing the land, we’ll plant a few fruit trees. What fruit does Nuo Nuo want?”
Huh? Can these things really be sustained in front of the entrance?
For the primitive little snake sub-beast with no planting concept, this clearly touched on the little snake sub-beast’s knowledge gap.
Looking at Ye Ze’s earnest expression, the little snake sub-beast felt embarrassed to dampen his enthusiasm. He shyly responded, “Anything is fine.”
“I’m asking for Nuo Nuo’s opinion. You can’t just say ‘anything.'” Ye Ze poked the soft forehead of the little snake sub-beast and resolutely corrected the habit of the little snake sub-beast always wanting to compromise.
The little snake sub-beast was poked and leaned backward. Holding his slightly sore head, he looked at him with a pitiful expression.
Wu. It’s so difficult to coax Ye Zi. QaQ
Obviously, everyone he met before thought he was good. They could quickly draw satisfactory conclusions on their own.
The little snake sub-beast could only turn his mind and think, “Um, can we have apple trees?”
Now, the little snake sub-beast knew that the magical fruit he ate on the first day was called an apple.
It might not be the flavor he liked the most among all the fruits, but it was the fruit that left the deepest impression on him.
Nuo Nuo wanted to plant it!
…Although he didn’t know if it could grow.
The little snake sub-beast twisted his clothes with his fingers. Sneakily glancing at Ye Ze’s expression, he felt very uneasy.
“Of course, we can.” Ye Ze smiled. A candy, inexplicably held between his fingers, was fed into the little snake sub-beast’s mouth as a reward. “I’m asking for Nuo Nuo’s opinion, so anything you want is fine.”
Ah! His cheeks are burning again! It’s so hot!
One day, the little snake bun will be steamed until the filling is revealed.
With the existence of abilities, the land cultivation and soil turning work was quickly and easily completed.
Ye Ze handed the purchased vegetable seeds to the little snake sub-beast and didn’t plan to help anymore.
He couldn’t do all the work alone—although he really wanted to.
But the little snake sub-beast would feel anxious.
Accustomed to being the ruler who exploited labor, he rarely had days when he felt troubled because someone around him was too diligent.
However, he had already taken care of the heavy work before farming. The little snake sub-beast shouldn’t… be too tired, right?
Actually, he had never farmed seriously; the overlord of the apocalypse thought uncertainly.
Even though just a moment ago, he confidently assured the little snake sub-beast of “a thousand catties per mu.”
He really fooled himself.
The little snake sub-beast carefully stored the seeds. He memorized Ye Ze’s planting instructions in his heart, and with a solemn expression, it seemed like he was completing some immensely sacred ritual.
Ye Ze couldn’t help but laugh.
The grass vines swayed and subdivided the field into rows of planting areas.
For the convenience of the little snake sub-beast’s tail movement, the furrows were particularly wide.
For anyone normal who looked at it, it would be the kind that made smoke rise from their heads—infuriating.
The little snake sub-beast obediently followed behind Ye Ze. Under Ye Ze’s guidance, with anticipation and anxiety, he sowed the first wave of seeds for this year.
Back in the surrounding bushes, looking at this dark piece of land, even though he still didn’t know what kind of food would grow inside, his mood had already changed.
This was the place where food might be continuously produced in the future!
He must take good care of it!
“By the way, Ye Zi.” After finishing the new task, the little snake sub-beast checked the position of the sun and tugged on Ye Ze’s clothes to remind him, “Today is the day to visit Grandma Kanglan. We’ll soon know when the caravan will arrive!”
“I know. Look, the gifts are ready.” Ye Ze smiled and pinched his cheek. He took out a black cloth bag and opened it.
Although the bag was disguised as rough tribal fabric, it contained rich resources entirely different from its coarse appearance.
All were exquisite foods suitable for an elderly person.
The little snake sub-beast paused, staring at the items inside the bag. It was easy to feel the earnestness and care of the preparer. Suppressing the urge to breathe heavily, he didn’t want to disturb the current harmonious atmosphere by letting out golden tear beans.
For the first time, someone did all this for the little snake sub-beast who had been lonely since childhood.
Willingly, without expecting anything in return…
“Okay, let’s go.” Ye Ze’s gentle voice suddenly interrupted the little snake sub-beast’s thoughts. He held the little snake sub-beast’s hand and carried the hemp bag, heading down the mountain.
He valued the person who had taken care of the little snake sub-beast’s safety and growth.
How could he forget the time?
Ye Ze lowered his eyes to look at the little snake sub-beast. Even the curls on his head exuded a clever and soft touch. A hint of a smile flashed through his eyes.
“Grandma Kanglan, I’m here!”
From afar, the little snake sub-beast happily waved to the old woman. His affectionate attitude clearly showed a high level of trust in the elderly lady.
But of course.
In the Black Snake Tribe, where the little snake sub-beast was rejected, the only person who had a neutral attitude, and even helped the little snake sub-beast, couldn’t avoid winning the pure-hearted little snake sub-beast’s favor.
Ye Ze silently suppressed the slightly unpleasant feeling rising in his heart. He walked with the little snake sub-beast to Kanglan Grandma’s side.
“Nuo Nuo is here.” The kind-looking old woman responded with a smile. When she saw Ye Ze beside the little snake sub-beast, a hint of surprise appeared on her face. Then, her gaze flickered around the little snake sub-beast, and her expression changed subtly.
“Nuo Nuo, where are this year’s goods?” The old woman’s smile had a trace of stiffness.
“Well, Grandma Kanglan, this time I want to pick some goods from the caravan, so there’s no need to trouble Grandma Kanglan. Can you tell me the specific time and place the caravan will arrive?” The little snake sub-beast shook his head, very sure, without fear.
Kanglan looked up at Ye Ze. There was a scrutinizing look in her eyes.
Something was off.
Ye Ze squinted his eyes. The deep black pupils met Kanglan’s gaze, and the hidden danger in them made Kanglan’s scalp tingle.
When did this little guy meet such a formidable existence?
“Oh, and this is the gift that Ye Zi and I prepared for Grandma Kanglan.” The little snake sub-beast, unaware of the situation between the two, cheerfully tried to take the cloth bag down.
Ye Ze withdrew his gaze and gently placed the bag down following the little snake sub-beast’s force.
However, amidst the actions, the food in the cloth bag had changed from fine grains and meats to the most common beast meat and wild vegetables in the wilderness.
For those unaware of the situation.
It’s better not to reveal too much for now.
Grandma Kanglan had scrutinized Ye Ze several times. Although he showed himself harmless and docile in front of the little snake sub-beast, he couldn’t conceal the true darkness within this beastman.
Grandma Kanglan received the cloth bag and said, “Thank you, Nuo Nuo. You both are considerate. Unfortunately, I’ve only heard that the caravan will arrive in three days, but the exact location hasn’t been announced by the tribe leader. I thought it would be the same as before, and there wouldn’t be any problems. But who knew that Nuo Nuo would want to go by himself.”
By the end, Grandma Kanglan’s teeth were almost involuntarily chattering.
Dangerous, too dangerous! This beastman of unknown origin!
Just standing there calmly, it felt as if a ferocious magical beast was roaring at her.
Grandma Kanglan’s refusal took a turn in her mouth. She patted the little snake sub-beast’s shoulder and said, “Afterward, when the tribe leader officially announces the situation, I’ll pass the message to Nuo Nuo, okay?”
Something was off; it had fallen on the little snake sub-beast.
Ye Ze frowned, staring at Grandma Kanglan with a more gloomy expression. He stared at her so intensely that Grandma Kanglan’s heart pounded.
Her medicinal powder was so concealed that even that person couldn’t detect it. Otherwise, this sub-beastman wouldn’t be here.
It shouldn’t be possible for an unnamed and unknown beastman to sense it.
Grandma Kanglan didn’t dare to stay for a moment longer. After bidding farewell to the little snake sub-beast, she hurried back to the tribe.
“Sorry, Ye Zi. I didn’t know that the tribe still hasn’t confirmed the news. I made you run for nothing.” The little snake sub-beast watched Kanglan leave, feeling suddenly dejected, lowering his small head.
“It’s not your fault. Some things are better left unknown.” There are people who don’t want them to know.
“Besides, I think going down the mountain with Nuo Nuo is also a good life experience.” Ye Ze reached out and placed his hand on the little snake sub-beast’s shoulder, speaking gently to console him.
The silent abilities of the wood element attached to those peculiar dust particles, removing them from the little snake sub-beast’s body.
But there were still some.
Not plant-based.
Ye Ze’s gaze darkened. He added another item to today’s itinerary for the dimensional marketplace.
“Squeak?”
A small creature, like a groundhog, suddenly burrowed out of the ground, sniffing the air. Its round ears perked up with delight.
At the same time, a stag walking in the dense forest raised its head and let out a long roar in the glow of the sunset. It locked onto a direction and galloped away.
“Hmm? The aura has strengthened!”
On the floating crystal ball like sun, an unprecedented brilliance radiated.
The beastman, in the midst of tending the campfire, suddenly paused. The next moment, he stood up and sprinted towards the direction of the glimmering light.
The black robe’s trailing hem billowed as it extinguished the burning flames of the roaring campfire.
Under the swaying hood, a strand of silver hair spilled out, shining brightly under the moonlight.
