Chapter 169: Lady Hufflepuff
November 1994
Gringotts Wizarding Bank
Few long moments of silence followed after the inheritance test. Hermione's expression was comical- she was beyond shocked. Her eyes were wide in shock and she could not believe what she was guessing.
Harry, though had anticipated this outcome and had a calm expression on his face was still feeling marvellous. Now his curiosity lied in finding out the quest which Helga Hufflepuff had set up and had been now fulfilled by Hermione.
Even Sharptooth, who had already been informed of such a possibility by Harry was momentarily shocked.
The silence was broken by Sharptooth.
"What a time to be living in," said Sharptooth in an incredible voice. "In a span of few months, we have found out the third heir of the founders of Hogwarts."
"Truly incredible," he added with quite an expression.
"Mr. Sharptooth?" Hermione questioned in an unbelieving tone.
"Is it for… for real?" She completed her question with a stammer.
Sharptooth chuckled at her reaction, "Yes, Miss. Granger."
"You are now the eligible Magical heir of Helga Hufflepuff and everything she might have left for you," he said. "And since, House Hufflepuff is a Primitive house, just like Peverell, Slytherin or Gryffindor, you can immediately claim its Lordship."
"Or I should say Ladyship," Sharptooth added after a pause.
Though Hermione nodded her head indicating she understood what Sharptooth said, her eyes were glowed towards the golden line.
"Hermione," Harry spoke for the first time after the inheritance test.
"There are two types of descendants," he began. "One is blood descendant. Like I am of Potter house and even Black house. It is denoted by a blood red line."
"Since you do not have any blood related magical ancestor… at least those whose lineage could be traced, you do not have any blood relation."
He continued, "Then there are these magical descendants being denoted by this golden line."
"A lot of wizard and witches, especially those who have a considerable legacy to their name do not want to leave what they have earned to someone only because they have their blood," he explained.
"For such people, magic is more important than their blood."
He continued, "Hence, they would leave few conditions… quests or tasks. On fulfilling such conditions, one would be qualified to become their magical heir."
Hermione nodded her head in understanding.
"Lord Potter, Miss. Granger," said Sharptooth. "We should go somewhere else and talk peacefully. Miss. Granger then claim her Ladyship."
Harry nodded and they followed Sharptooth. After another exhilarating ride on Gringotts' cartwheel, Sharptooth brought them into a room. During the entire journey, the trio remained in silence as varying thoughts were going through their minds.
Three chairs, one obviously for Sharptooth's size and one small round table between them was placed at the centre of the room.
"Lord Potter, Miss Granger," Sharptooth gestured foe them to take their seats. Both followed the lead.
"I think, firstly, you should claim your Ladyship, Miss. Granger," said Sharptooth. "Only after that the letters left my Madam Helga Hufflepuff could be accessed."
"And believe me," he added in a reassuring tone. "A lot of your questions would be answered after you access those letters."
Hermione remained quiet for some time probably wondering the consequences her action might follow. Unlike Harry, who had gained a lot of memories from the Peverell brothers and then from Voldemort and had an excellent understanding of the wizarding world, its politics and how all the system works, Hermione had zero to little understanding of all these things.
After moments of silence, during which neither Harry nor Sharptooth disturbed as they understood what was on her mind and its importance, Hermione gave a firm nod.
"Ok," she said resolutely. "I will take up the Ladyship."
Harry then guided her into the proper method of claiming the lordship.
Hermione nervously raised her wand, "I Hermione Jean Granger, magical heir of Helga Hufflepuff, hereby claim the Ladyship of the Hufflepuff house. I claim myself to be as true magical heir of Hufflepuff house. I claim to take my duties as Hufflepuff Lady sincerely and responsibly."
As soon as Hermione finished her oath, a golden circle encircled her. Hermione felt being judged but in very short few moments, the golden circle erupted in an ethereal glow. The glow soon vanished accepting Hermione's oath and her claim to be Lady Hufflepuff.
"Congratulations, Miss Granger," said Shaprtooh. "You are now officially, Lady Hufflepuff."
"Congratulations, Hermione," Harry said with a smile wishing Hermione.
