Legacy of Harry Potter

Chapter 167: Aftermath (2)

November 1994

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

A silence ensued in the room after Harry's reply. Minerva and Amelia exchanged awkward glances as they shifted uncomfortably in their chairs.

"I feel there is something that both of you want to say," said Harry. "Please speak freely."

Amelia sighed deeply, "Lord Potter, I believe that your apprehensions have already come true."

Harry raised an eyebrow at this while Amelia continued, "The power you showed in the arena… especially the last spell has frightened a vast majority of people in the wizarding Britain."

"They worry about what you do… considering that your power would have still not reached its peak… they worry what if you decide to do something like Voldemort."

They are afraid of your power being left unchecked," she added.

Harry scoffed. He more or less had expected this kind of reaction.

"And who is going to check my power?" He asked. "Does anyone except probably Albus Dumbledore even have the guts to stand in front of me?"

"Harry," Minerva interjected. "The issue is more serious."

"In last day, I have received a few applications from parents who have expressed their wish to pull their children from Hogwarts."

"Also, quite a few parents, though, have no expressed such wish have expressed their apprehensions," said Minerva.

"If anyone want to do such a thing, they are free to do," Harry declared without any hesitation. "They have my permission."

"Anyways," he continued. "Hogwarts is going to go through a complete rehaul from next year."

Minerva nodded.

"What are the chances of the death eaters facing punishment this time?" Harry asked changing the topic. "Punishment which they deserve and not for its namesake."

Amelia shook her head, "It is really a complicated issue."

First, we have those wizards and witches who had escaped Azkaban when Voldemort had attacked it," said Amelia. "Those without any doubt are going to be thrown back."

"Now, secondly, in specific Peter Pettigrew; after your open declaration about consequences if someone comes to rescue of Pettigrew and even his own crimes now that reality will come out gives him no escape."

"He gets either a kiss of dementor or the deepest part of Azkaban," she added.

"And finally, the remaining ones," she continued. "As Dumbledore said that their mere appearance with Voldemort dressed in death eater's robes cannot be really called a crime."

"So, for them to get punished, legally speaking, their crimes in the first wizarding war needs to be proved… which is an extremely difficult task."

"But," she added with a deep breath. "These all scenarios stand in an ideal world. A world where evidences and proves and truth really matter."

"But in our case… it comes ultimately, to who is able to get more support in the Wizengamot."

Harry added, "And there would be quite a few people wanting those people to not be punished."

"Yes," Amelia replied. "This same thing had happened in the previous war."

"After your parents were killed and Voldemort vanquished… the entire dark faction was on backfoot," she continued. "The light faction led by Albus Dumbledore had gotten tremendous power in their hands. Every neutral family was willing to follow the old coot leadership."

A nostalgic and painful look appeared on her face, "I had lost my family… my brother… he had been a member of the order of the phoenix."

"I was raging and seething. I had wanted every death eater to be thrown inside Azkaban," she said.

"But when the time of trial came, everything turned out to be completely opposite. Only those death eaters who openly declared their support for Voldemort were punished. Any other death eater who made even the slightest of reason and denied their roles were able to get scoot free."

"Dumbledore did not make the slightest attempt to confront them. He did not counter or asked questions," she continued. "Other than few members of the light faction, everyone voted for them to be innocent."

She turned towards Minerva, "I believe that even you were not present that day when the most of death eaters were put on the trial including Lucius Malfoy."

Minerva nodded, "Yes… that day, I was about to go for the trial but Albus suddenly summoned me and handed me some urgent matters. He said that the work was more important than the trial."

Amelia turned towards Harry, "So if you want them punished, you need allies."

Harry nodded, "Thank you Madam McGonagall and Madam Bones."

It was a dismissal from Harry and taking the clue both the ladies got up to leave. Amelia left first but Minerva turned around at the last moment.

"Harry," she said. "I feel that behind those apprehensions bring raised at your power, Dumbledore is at work."

With this she also walked away leaving a contemplating Harry in the room.

"What do you desire Albus Dumbledore?" Harry muttered to himself.
