Chapter 15: The Battle of Sanyou(11)
I turned towards my new 500 recruits, whom were obviously scared. Knowing their death was likely.
Almost our entire force had switched out, with only one elite line remaining, the frontline. And they too, would switch out soon enough.
"Men of the Kokuda Tai! I am Commander Hyou Ren, the Commander of the Ginryu Tai, and I slayed the enemy tactician. As we are speaking, my men are making light work out of the 3000 men you previously fought, and our task is simple. Hold our ground, whatever it takes. We must hold our ground!" I shouted at the men, as I stood amongst them.
"I know you are scared, and I know you have yet to experience such a Battle. But I will be with you all the way, I am a tactician and yet I am here, fighting for you, for Qin, for the families at home. And will you let a noble tactician outshine you?" I said, the men began to rile up.
"NOOOOO" They shouted in unison.
"Great, so let's kill these fuckers!" I shouted, as my frontline finally switched out.
Though Kaen and Hozu remained, fighting to the bitter end as they exhausted their entire bodies, killing 5 men with every move. The 2 fought on, and their relentless attacks quickly riled up my men, and they began fighting with a renewed determination.
I decided against joining the Battle for now, our morale was as high as it could be right now, so it'd be more efficient if I waited for it to fall, for it would fall eventually. No doubt about that.
However, that didn´t keep me from using a bow, as I loaded it up, aimed and shot.
Finding the head of a nearby Sergeant, commanding 10 men.
As soon as I saw him fall, my eyes turned towards the next officer I could see, and luckily. The officers of this particular unit had some extra marks and decorations on their helmet, which made it all that much easier.
And like I kept relentlessly sniping the officers, which of course. Lowered morale, and made them more cautious, which meant they didn´t get to issue as many commands as they would like, for they´d get sniped.
Same with messengers, gone.
Either way, the recruits were holding on relentlessly, the first 30 seconds had resulted in us pushing them back, but that was quickly shut right back down as they gathered themselves, and launched a counter attack.
Even Kaen and Hozu were forced on their back-foot, due to the pressure from many elites at the same time.
Turning towards the other battlefield, I saw that the 1000 Man Commander, who were situated in front of Genji´s Unit, had been killed. And surprisingly, they hadn´t routed. The Lieutenant had taken efficient Command and he had joined in the counter charge.
At the same time, Ishiro had engaged the enemy 3000-man Commander, and they were duelling in the frontlines, seemingly equal as it stood.
As the minutes passed, we began struggling more and more.
"How can we win this Battle....."
"They're monsters..."
"The Commander isn't even doing anything"
"We´re doomed"
I picked up on all these different conversations, as we continued to lose. We had now lost over 150 men. Barely killing 75 of them, most of whom were Kaen and Hozu.
But I could see both of them were getting exhausted.
But the positive news was that Ishiro had defeated the Commander, and was now taking on a Lieutenant, who was being completely decimated.
I was about to join the fold, and fight on the frontlines. When I heard it.
"Shin of the Hi Shin Unit, killed General Rin Ko." I heard the faint shout, and my eyes widened and a smile formed on my face.
"Spread the news! GENERAL RIN KO HAS BEEN KILLED!" I shouted with all my might.
"PUSH FORWARD!!!" I shouted, as I rode my horse forward. Putting my bow on my back as I drew my sword, and charged into the frontlines.
And at the same time, I gave the signal to one of the Sergeants, as our infantry line began splitting on the right side. Forming a small pathway.
And through it, charged our 210 cavalry, as I joined them at the forefront.
"Let's kill them!" I shouted to my 210 rested cavalrymen, as we charged forth. And into the shocked infantrymen, shocked at the news of Rin Ko´s death, which was found out to be true, due to his flag having fallen.
I charged into their unprepared lines, slashing left and right. Catching the Elites off Guard. And luckily, they gave me 5 free kills before they gathered themselves and began resisting.
But by looking towards the right, and the Battlefield there. Those recruits did not regroup quickly enough, and my 500 elite men jumped on the opportunity.
The line over there was a 200 men-long frontline, while the one back here was 50 men.
But on that frontline, every one of my 200 elites in the front got 2 or more kills, resulting in over 500 deaths within a few seconds, as we charged into their lines, and Ishiro killed off the last of the Lieutenants.
And he turned towards us, riding towards our line quickly.
For that was his task, kill the enemy Commander and Lieutenants, then return.
And at the same time, these news. Alongside the Cavalry charge had given our infantry the much needed breathing room, as we reformed our ranks.
"Cavalry, push through their lines and harass their backline!" I shouted, as Rokus' Right Hand took over, leading the cavalry to push through the 2000 men. Which was no simple task, but they went towards the right, and pushed onto Genji´s Battlefield, whereas they quickly got out.
However, I fought my way back. Killing another 15 soldiers as I returned to our lines, which was facing a renewed assault. Rin Ko´s Lieutenant having taken over the command, as he had been doing the entire battle, since Rin Ko was behind enemy lines. And he reassured the commanders, which made them focus on attacking once again.
However, the timing was impeccable. Due to the General's death, the Commanders all sent their messages to the HQ, wanting their next set of moves and orders. Which meant the Headquarters were crowded with different people, wanting to see the new Commanding-General.
So the recruits facing Genji´s Battlefield, had no reinforcements. For nobody was aware of their plight. And they were getting completely routed.
Over 1500 of them had died, 800 of them within these last 2 minutes. Following the General's death, and the rest of them were retreating.
But I wouldn't have my men pursue, for we have a much more important target.
Encircling the elites.
And Genji followed my instructions to the letter, as the command was given, and all 2000 men in his camp, 500 from the Ginryu Tai and 1500 from the Kokuda Tai turned on the elites.
2500 against 1800.
Fairly good odds.
