Wristology (170)
The so called library was incredibly small, definitely not suited to be called a library.
There was only a single bookshelf, some dusty books populating its four shelves, an amount of shelves that was also rather small.
Ezekial sighed as he shook his head softly, making his way over to the small bookshelf.
"This is not the true library, His Majesty has not granted you access to that."
Kai was a little disappointed, his efforts earlier seemed like a bit of a waste now. While he was slowly starting to think that maybe this place wasn't actually so bad, he wasn't just going to showcase all of his skills.
Sadly, that wasn't all of the bad news.
"His Majesty also decided that you will only be able to pick one book.
He also decided that you will have to pick it randomly. You will not get to examine the book you pick, you simply have to choose one book and stick with it."
Kai stared at Ezekial incredulously. He knew that Castillian did not like him, but was this not a bit much?
"Are you being serious?"
Ezekial nodded in response.
"I am."
Turning back to the bookshelf, Kai inwardly cursed as he realised that none of the spines had the names of the books, and even if they did, the spines were too dusty to make out any words.
There were books of various sizes, and while most were a dark brown colour, there were some that came in a different shade of brown, an exciting mix.
And Kai had the oppurtunity to randomly pick any of these, how lucky he was.
Glancing over his shoulder, Kai looked back to Ezekial and asked:
"Which book would you pick?"
It was a question that he wasn't really expecting an answer for, yet Kai was still shocked by the blue haired swordsman's incredible words of wisdom.
"I do not know, whichever one calls to me, I suppose."
Sighing, Kai turned back to the bookshelves, deciding to just pretend that he never asked that question.
Whichever book calls to me...
None of them were calling to him, they were all just incredibly dusty and that was it.
Deciding to test his luck, Kai simply decided to pick the book that was the furthest to the left on the top shelf.
Taking the book off the shelf, Kai rolled his eyes at the fact that even the main title was covered by dust. He then replicated what he had seen in dozens of movies and blew the dust away.
Instantly he started coughing as a cloud of dust attacked his face, making him squeeze his eyes shut and wave it away with his hand. He could have sworn that he heard Ezekial chuckling, but he had no way of knowing because when he opened his eyes Ezekial's face was as blank as it normally was.
Turning his eyes away from the swordsman, Kai glanced down at the book and, to be fair to his luck, wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Wristology
How to control your wrists better.
Written by Sekiras
A book on how to control your wrists better... actually wasn't that bad for someone like Kai. Being able to control his wrists more efficiently meant he would be able to pull more things off.
But one thing that seemed to suit this book incredibly well was the fact that Kai could turn Esurient invisible. Combined with this book, he would be able to swing an invisible sword in an unpredictable manner because of the way he could move his wrists.
So, overall, it could have been a lot worse.
"Happy with your choice?"
Tucking the book under his arm, Kai grinned as he turned back to Ezekial.
"Could have been better, could have been worse, but it's good enough so I'm happy."
Ezekial nodded in response.
"I see."
After that, the two of them made their way out of the mini library and back into the main hallway.
As they walked, Kai kept looking out all the windows they passed. By now, it was starting to get dark, a testament to how long he and Yelena had actually spent in the city.
Kai made small talk with Ezekial as they walked, mainly consisting of Kai asking about various tips to do with holding a sword.
Once they reached the painting of Anastasia that lead to the stairs, Ezekial stopped walking.
"This is where I must leave you, Honoured Guest. I must visit His Majesty before he turns in for the night, so I hope you can make it back to your chambers from here."
It was something that seemed rather common for someone like Ezekial to have to do, so Kai saw no need in holding him back any longer.
"Yeah, don't worry about it, I've got it from here."
Ezekial nodded before bowing slightly to Kai.
"Well then, good night, Honoured Guest. I also hope that you will still be up to train tomorrow."
Then, Ezekial turned around and began walking back down the hallway that they just walked up.
And somehow, Kai couldn't help but shiver at the prospect of having to train with Ezekial again after what he pulled today. He knew that from now on, the training sessions would no longer just be Ezekial teaching him the basics.
After hopping through the painting, he admired the extravagant stairs as he slowly walked down them. He had thought this on the way up, but it really was strange that someone like him was living in a castle.
It really was a crazy thought. His family wouldn't have been called poor, but they definitely weren't rich, so to live somewhere like this, even if it was only going to be for six months was still a little strange.
Exiting through the painting of Castillian, Kai caught sight of the Third Queen, but it seemed that she caught sight of him before he did as he only managed to catch a glimpse of her back as she scurried around a corner. He still had no idea why she kept acting like that, and he had no idea when he would actually get any answers.
The walk back was rather nice now that the windows were no longer blocked by the strange black fog. The lights in the city looked quite cool in the dark, combined with all the snow that was falling from the sky, although the rate it was falling at had picked up quite a bit from when he was out there earlier.
After admiring the views from a couple more windows, Kai finally made it back to his room. He then slipped back into the pyjamas he left on his bed earlier and got into bed.
Then, he began reading.
Wrists are good, wrists are important. Good wrist control makes a good swordsman, or archer, or anything because wrists are good.
In all my life, no one has ever been able to out wrist me. Writing, fighting, choking, I am best at all things wrist.
Because I am so good with wrist, I will share all of my knowledge with you, my aspiring wristers.
Well, it was abundantly clear that the person who wrote this might not have been the brightest, which was pretty obvious from the way they wrote.
And Kai wasn't exactly sure what to think of being called a wrister. It sounded kind of lewd, but also didn't at the same time?
But it's not like he had to read this book, he could just go back to reading Basics of Mana if he had to, but he decided he may as well get a few pages deeper before he made up his mind.
And it was lucky that he did, because while the author may have been rather simple minded, they most definitely knew their stuff when it came to wrists.
They went into in depth detail of every nerve, every bit of muscle, every bit of bone, even the skin. They even went into detail on how the skin of different races would affect the way in which their wrist would move.
It was an incredible level of knowledge, and all of it was to do with wrists. How one even got all this knowledge about wrists, especially the facts like how a dragons wrist was nearly ten times thicker than the average wrist or even the effects of cracking your wrist for a bunch of different races.
If a human cracked their wrist, it made a loud cracking noise, but as Kai read further on he learned that there was apparently a race called Soundbearers that learned to harness every inch of their body to make and control noise. The author said that if you heard a Soundbearer crack their wrist, you could get knocked out by the sheer mental pressure it emits.
As he continued to read, Kai learned more and more about something that he already thought he knew a decent amount about considering that he had done Biology in school.
Luckily, the book explained a bunch of different tricks and training methods that Kai could to do improve his wrist control, varying from basic movements to full on wrist workout.
It was only after Kai started to get tired that he realised he had no idea how long he had been reading for. It had actually surprised him how interesting learning about wrists could be, even though he didn't really have high hopes in the first place.
After placing the book on the beside locker, on top of Basics of Mana, Kai looked up at the ceiling and sighed with a smile.
Maybe these six months wouldn't actually be so bad.
*Small Note*
Story will start slowly picking up from next chapter onwards.
