CH 22 - Day 32 of Spring
32nd Day of Spring
“Boss! Was it delicious?”
“I want to eat too!”
The captain fairy, who had the largest wings, was given more melons and strawberries. The expression ‘superior person’ was interesting; it was a bit difficult to translate, but the fact that fairies used the term ‘human’ was fascinating in itself.
The fairies were ecstatic as they tasted the fruit handed out by the captain. Watching them flutter around was cute.
Small in appearance and lively in speech, their cute faces and actions made them lovely beings, hard to dislike.
I watched the fairies enjoying themselves for a while. As the excitement subsided and the situation calmed down, the captain fairy approached me.
“Thank you for giving us such a nice gift. Is there anything you want? You can ask for as much as we can give.”
It was the message I had hoped for. In fact, my purpose for coming here was clear.
“Is it possible to find the Sky Dew Fruit?”
“Sky Dew Fruit? Of course. Can you wait until tomorrow? All of today’s harvest has been sent to Sky Garden. I will hand it over as soon as it’s harvested tomorrow.”
“You only need to give me one.”
“We harvest only five per day anyway. Just take them all. The fairies are happy, so I suppose I can do at least that much.”
“I am grateful.”
“If you don’t have a place to stay today, you can stay here. If you’re a human like you, it’ll be fine. There’s a lot of time left until tomorrow morning. Stay comfortably.”
The captain’s tone was authoritative, but her actions were friendly. I accepted the offer and decided to stay at the fairy farm.
Encountering a being called a fairy made me realize that I was not on Earth but in another world. It was easy to recognize that I had entered a place called Starwind Valley. No matter what, they say the most stimulating thing for humans is visual. Seeing the cute little fairies heightened that feeling.
“Wow! I like this person.”
“It smells good!”
The fairies eating melons hovered around me. The sound of fluttering wings was faint enough not to be bothersome.
“Are you a farmer? It smells like dirt!”
A fairy came up and asked me.
“Yes, I farm. I also grew melons myself.”
“Cool! Cool! I know magic that helps with farming. Shall I teach you?”
“Magic?”
“Yes! It’s a magic that makes the ground go soft. How about it?”
I wasn’t sure what kind of magic the fairy was talking about, but just learning magic was a big gain. I never thought I could learn magic in a place like this.
“Look carefully! Hey! Hey!”
“…?”
“Can I just do it?”
As the fairy touched the ground with her hand, the ground shimmered colorfully. I wasn’t sure how helpful this was for farming or what kind of magic it was, but I could tell it was doing something. The problem was that even though I watched, I had no idea what was what.
“Could you show me again?”
“Yikes! Yikes!”
“Uh… I’m not sure.”
“Hehe. You idiot! Shall I show you again?”
“Yes, would you like to keep showing me?”
“Huh!”
The fairy’s magic demonstration continued more than fifteen times. Despite not being familiar with magic, I just felt like the ground was shaking. That was all I could perceive; I didn’t feel anything or understand anything.
As I tried to demonstrate magic, the fairies who used magic gathered around me one by one.
A magic that sweetened the air.
A magic that made cold winds blow.
A magic that caused water droplets to fall.
A magic that made wings flap faster.
Each fairy’s magic colored the world in a completely natural way. Fireworks flew around, and the wind blew. Unlike the grand magic I had imagined, it was full of small, cute things, but it suited a fairy. I didn’t think there was anywhere to learn it and use it, but it was good for creating an atmosphere like this. There were many things closer to ‘magic’ than actual magic.
Everyone urged me to learn their magic, but I needed to be able to understand what it was just by watching. I continued my reactions by smiling and applauding. Even he laughed and said he liked fairies. The comfort shown by such pure beings made me feel truly healed.
“Is this how you do it?”
“Yiing. Noaa! Yikes! Yikes! Stupid human!”
“Ahaha…”
“I’ll still help you! again!”
Okay.
How am I supposed to do this?
They kept trying to help, but there was no progress, and I began to feel a sense of shame. Seeing the other fairies looking at me with sparkling eyes full of anticipation was burdensome. No, I really didn’t know anything about magic.
The fairy was persistent in teaching me magic. It seemed like dozens of teachers who wouldn’t give up on an inferior student had come together to teach me one magic trick after another.
Unfortunately, the inferior student couldn’t even grasp a clue because he couldn’t understand magic.
EH! Hah!
The sound hit my ears mercilessly. That innocent intention made it even more painful.
The day at the fairy farm passed like this. A fairy teaching magic, and that little noise of fairies circling around me and giggling.
As the sky darkened, the fairies gave up their work and returned to the tree, scattering soft light. The fairies settled in their abode in the trees, emitting light like fireflies.
As I pitched the tent, fairies approached me, scattering some lights. The fairy who asked if she could sleep next to me because she liked the smell was once again cute. So, for the first time in my life, I spent a short night with a fairy. The night of the 28th ended like that.
The Morning of the 29th
“Good morning.”
“You woke up early?”
“Fairies rarely sleep. They were waiting for you to wake up.”
“Thank you.”
“The Sky Dew Fruit is ready.”
“Oh!”
At last. In the end, the Sky Dew Fruit was in my hand. Quantity: five.
I put the fruits given by the captain in my bag and checked my achievements.
Achievement: The clouds were delicious! (Obtain Sky Dew Fruit).
The achievement was completed.
It was a thrilling moment. Although farming had not yet reached Advanced Level 1, there was no doubt about the progress.
“Thank you.”
“It was a fun experience for us. If you bring fruit like that, we will always welcome you as a guest.”
“I’ll stop by sometime. Bye.”
“Goodbye, human!”
“Bye! Bye!”
“See you again!”
I left the fairy farm, being greeted by the cute fairies. After leaving the fairy forest covered in long green shadows, I arrived in the city. After walking for a full day in the city, I finally arrived home.
The purpose of the journey had been achieved, and now all that remained was to return. I walked all day, recalling the anecdotes with the fairies from time to time, and a smile formed on my face. Falling in love with cute things seemed to have left quite an impression on me because it kept lingering in my memory.
Traveling alone wasn’t as special as I thought, but the combination of good scenery and a comfortable mind made the world look beautiful no matter what.
For camping, I set up the now-familiar tent and lay down. It was a good night.
So, without any problem. The night of the 29th also ended like that.
Morning of the 30th Day
“Ugh…”
My saliva was flowing. When the pain was severe, the brain blocked the sensation. I wasn’t sure. I could no longer feel the tingling sensation that passed through my fingertips and toes. I didn’t even know if I had picked up the painkiller and put it in my mouth or not. Even that brief memory faded away.
Damn it. If I had known that Advanced Level 1 would come the next day, I would have prepared a lot of painkillers. No. Who knew things would happen this quickly without the system showing in my dreams?
Knowledge and experience penetrated my mind. The power ravaged my brain mercilessly. Those powerful forces that penetrated my body made it infinitely weak. I was paralyzed by pure white pain, and my thoughts stopped. My heart soared to the sky, wishing I would faint, but my strong body endured the pain again and again. This damn body.
Did I take painkillers? I wasn’t sure. With a faint sense, I somehow pulled something out of my bag and swallowed it.
It seemed like a purple liquid was flowing down.
No.
Was it light green?
Was it melon or strawberry?
Was it solid?
My thoughts were spinning wildly. I didn’t know if it was sweet or if it was an unpleasant, bitter feeling. All I could do was roll over in my sleeping bag and thrash around on the floor. Leveling up was hell.
“Kwaaah!”
I even let out a scream. As I writhed and rolled around on the floor mercilessly, the pain gradually subsided.
When I looked at my bag, I saw that the painkillers were long gone. Had I drunk all of it unconsciously?
My tongue had no feeling and felt dull. Still, it was fortunate that the pain had subsided.
“Only 20 minutes has passed?”
A laugh came out. It was 20 minutes of hell that felt like 2 hours. I packed up my tent, determined to be more prepared next time.
A laugh escaped me.
It had been 20 minutes of hell that felt like 2 hours.
I packed up my tent, determined to be better prepared next time.
My whole body throbbed.
A searing pain pressed down on me, but I held back and forced myself to take a step forward.
I bit my teeth so hard that they started to tingle.
No matter how much I endured this crazy pain, I didn’t think I would ever get used to it.
How could I pass out alone?
I needed a magic that could block all senses.
I had to learn something like that.
Realizing that the intermediate level was the upper limit of what I could endure, even with painkillers, I moved to the city without having time to enjoy the farming I had reached at advanced level 1.
The scenery of Rayvik, which I reached on foot, wasn’t much different from before.
Since I had no intention of doing anything there, I was content to just stay for the night.
I didn’t have a contract to talk about anyway, nor did I have any crops.
For me, a night in the castle was no different from camping, except that it was safer.
These damn medieval hygiene concepts—
I hated bugs.
Morning of the 31st day.
The day after I woke up from a night in the city, I felt fine.
I walked all day and lost myself in thought.
It was boring.
Camping took place in a similar location. If today ended, I could get home.
With that thought alone, I continued to walk steadily.
Morning of the 32nd day.
Finally, Starwind Valley came into view.
It had taken about a week.
I had planned to travel for 10 days, but I returned sooner than expected.
The biggest reason for the shortened period was that the negotiation with the fairies was brief.
Being able to communicate with each other and obtain the Sky Dew fruit the next day was a huge advantage.
Around lunchtime,
the sun felt warm now.
As spring was fully approaching, I stood there, staring blankly at the feast of crops blooming in the yard.
Crops that painted the fields with vibrant colors.
Even the beautiful sight of the mithril sprinklers working flawlessly, distributing water to the field.
It was an ideal scene, exactly the image I had pictured in my head, without any criticism.
I felt like all my fatigue had melted away.
Garlic.
Kingsberry.
Strawberry.
Musk Melon.
Passion Fruit.
Chamomile.
Honeysuckle.
Pink Cat.
Licorice.
Delphinium.
Canary Melon.
Many crops welcomed me.
The hundreds of plants I had planted experimentally had all borne spectacular results.
I picked the crops one by one and placed them into bags.
I would have to let the village know I was back tomorrow and bring them some things as gifts.
This was the essence of small-town living.
The harvest lasted from afternoon until night.
Was it because of the experience from my refined actions and body?
My back, which would have been stiff and painful before, was fine.
I felt that things would change as I advanced further, and I could sense the benefits of that ability.
Regardless of the pain, one thing was certain: my abilities.
Perhaps at night, the system would notify me that I had leveled up.
I hadn’t seen the system message in my dreams for about a week, and I was starting to miss it a little.
I washed up and fell asleep with a thousand crops piled in my bag.
I loved how soft the bed felt.
There was a completely different level of comfort between sleeping outside and sleeping at home.
The same went for the bugs and the peace that came from the heart.
In many ways, home was the best.
[Farming advanced level 1 achieved! Choose an advanced achievement effect!]
[1. Reduction in ripening time of aged products by 30%]
[2. Maximum lifespan of livestock doubled. Production increased by 20%.]
A message I hadn’t seen in a long time greeted me.
Moreover, since it was the most welcoming message, the joy was amplified.
The flower of farming.
Aged products such as wine, whiskey, and fruit liquor.
The quality of those aged for a long time improved.
The reason it was called the flower of farming was, of course, largely due to its high price.
The options below were related to livestock farming.
Once the farm reached a certain level, it was inevitable that I would have to farm simultaneously, and the main purpose of ranching was to obtain items related to cooking or achievements.
Rather than making money through this, it was more about earning small, steady pocket money and finding healing while looking at cute animals.
When considering efficiency, number 1 was undoubtedly the best choice.
My hand chose 1 without hesitation, and just like that, the choice vanished.
Most of the crops were sold.
Except for muskmelon, Kingsberry, and strawberry, everything was sold through the system, except for trade samples and gifts.
In any case, buying seeds and selling them always yielded a profit, so to make money and grow as many as 10,000 melons and strawberries, I had to raise a lump sum like this.
The gold I collected in that way amounted to 18,360 gold.
Five digits worth of gold collected in one go.
I smiled and drifted out of the dream.
A familiar flickering consciousness.
I felt my body sinking into darkness and surrendered to it comfortably.
