Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 821 Disappointment

The sustained energy needed to fortify the defense against the relentless barrage of these powerful creatures could exhaust even the most proficient magic users. Unless the demi-humans had meticulously stored an ample reserve of mana over the years within their isolation, the barrier's ability to withstand the storm dragons' assaults could have been in jeopardy.

"They should know that the dragon god attacked me, so they should know that the dragon god is ignoring them," Rain thought. "This one is different from the one that pushed away thousands of years ago… the question is, do they know that?"

In the end, Rain moved away from the area and then decided to sleep until night came. He didn't have much time to rest in the last few days, after all, so that pause was welcomed.

When night came, Rain was thankful to confirm that the sky was cloudy enough to fly over the area without being seeing. Even if his domain could stop tracking spells and he could reflect the surroundings, it was still better to be safe than sorry.

Although Rain could tell that the water dragons were awake, they weren't doing anything as Rain crossed the area… during the day, they didn't do much either. So, he wondered what was the point of the encirclement.

"If they have been doing this for over one hundred years, I guess it makes sense since they aren't in a hurry," Rain thought. "They can afford to waste while the demi humans grow tired and weary of all this."

Still, Rain had to fly for quite a while before he finally was able to find the island of the demi humans in the distance, things didn't change that much from what he recalled.

Rain acknowledged that despite his domain's ability to conceal his presence, those responsible for maintaining the barrier or monitoring it would likely detect him. This possibility prompted him to consider potential strategies to counteract their detection methods. He recognized the difficulty in doing so, given that even the dragons, with their considerable abilities, couldn't manage it.

Furthermore, Rain understood the futility of them trying to be stealthy when they were beings of such colossal size.

Contemplating his options, Rain considered the challenge in devising a plan to evade detection, especially against opponents possessing advanced sensory abilities. The intricate and potent nature of the barrier's guardians or observers made it a formidable obstacle to bypass unnoticed.

While Rain was thinking of what he should do, he suddenly felt a presence approaching from below. Rain didn't feel any bloodlust coming from it, but he still raised his guard. Before long, Rain recognized Isa's approaching.

"Come to think of it, she was able to sense me when I was in space checking the Island…" Rain thought.

"... It is really you," Isa said as she stopped flying in the air. "I can't believe it."

"Wow, not even my friends and family believed me that fast…" Rain furrowed his eyebrows. "I guess you didn't change that much in the last one hundred years. Is that a good or bad thing?"

"Forget about that, we have a lot to talk about, come," Isa said.

"Is it fine?" Rain asked.

"It is, some of your family and allies are working with us," Isa said.

"... Who are they?" Rain asked while raising his guard.

"The Sea Empress and the former sea emperor," Isa said. "They never said anything about you and they avoided my questions, so this will be a good thing."

"... Sea Empress?" Rain furrowed his eyebrows. "I thought that Seadrei wouldn't give up his seat unless he died."

"Yes, her name is Sealyn," Isa said. "I assumed that she was your daughter, but she never replied to those questions."

Rain was shocked upon learning that his youngest daughter had ascended to the high position of the sea Empress. Although he felt a surge of happiness and pride knowing she had attained such a prestigious role and ascended within the high society of the sea realm, it was coupled with a deep concern.

He realized that this newfound status and authority would inevitably make her a target for numerous challenges and dangers.

Despite his pride in her accomplishments, Rain couldn't shake off the worry that came with such a significant position. The realization dawned on him that his daughter's elevation to the sea Empress meant she would likely face numerous threats and rivalries, as her newfound status would attract envy and ambition from others in the realm. Even more so considering that she was a demi human.

While Rain was thinking many things, he crossed he barrier with Isa and soon the surroundings changed. While the barrier was still up, it looked like the dragons managed to cross it and cause a lot of havoc inside.

The territory of the demi-humans showed the grim scars of relentless assault. Along the vast coastlines of their colossal island, the visible wreckage told a tale of unceasing onslaughts by the dragons. The once-thriving settlements, nestled near the beaches, lay in ruins, torn apart by the immense power and sheer size of the draconic invaders.

The devastation was evident in the shattered remnants of houses and structures that once stood proudly against the backdrop of the sea. These place , once bustling with life and activity, now lay in ruinous disarray, their foundations destroyed, reduced to debris by the monumental force of the dragon assaults.

The landscape bore the marks of repeated attacks, with swathes of destruction extending along the coastline, a stark testament to the ferocity and scale of the dragon onslaught that had befallen the demi-humans' homeland.

"I guess you guys have your hardships as well… the destruction even reached the area where you lived," Rain said. "Anyway, where are the sea folk? Where is Seara and Sealyn?"

"They should be in the south fighting the sea dragons, they will probably return in the morning," Isa said.

"You should have told me that sooner…" Rain said while rubbing his eyes.
