Chapter 71: Chapter 66: Letter From The King... Caught Red Handed...
Wizard King Palace...
Wizard King Cabin...
Inside his cabin, Julius was playing with a few artefacts and tweaking them, which he had brought from Kikka's black market where he disguised himself as an old granny.
He would regularly take a few walks outside to various places during his free time, and one of those places was Kikka's black market.
The market sells many things ranging from trash to hidden gems.
If not careful, one might even end up buying cursed items, which could cause harm to the user.
"My lord, we have received a personal scroll sent by our king."
Entering the cabin, Marx, who was the current Wizard King's assistant, placed a red scroll on the Wizard King's desk.
The scroll was sealed with the golden emblem of the Kira family symbol.
Oh~
Hearing that the scroll was a personal message from Ben, the new king of the Clover Kingdom, piqued Julius's interest.
He took the scroll and opened it.
"____"
Hahaha~
After reading it for some time, Julius couldn't help but laugh loudly.
He closed the scroll and handed it back to Marx, who was looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
Marx was genuinely curious why the Wizard King was laughing so loudly after reading the personal scroll from the king.
Letter content...
Subject: An Overly Ambitious Assassination Attempt (Help, but No Rush!)
Dear Wizard King Julius,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and in an even better mood because you're about to get a good laugh.
The Liberators have decided that I'm such a nuisance that it requires 200 assassins to take me down.
Yes, you read that right—two hundred. I guess I should feel flattered.
Here's the kicker: while these fine folks are busy swarming me like overly dramatic bees, the real play is elsewhere.
They're planning to bust their buddy out of prison—the one I caught near Hage Village after his stellar performance.
You know, the one currently enjoying our kingdom's finest hospitality at the prison.
So here's the deal: I can handle my end. It's only 200 assassins, after all—nothing a little magic can't handle.
But it would be splendid if you could send some backup to the prison.
You know, just to ensure that their dramatic escape attempt doesn't ruin our excellent track record of "captured means captured."
And please, don't overdo it on the reinforcements.
Looking forward to hearing that their little jailbreak mission was a total flop.
Yours in mildly entertained exasperation,
Ben

"____"
Julius opened the scroll and started reading it.
After reading it fully, his face turned grim.
"My lord, we need to stop him from confronting them. If what he mentioned is true, we should also inform Captain Jack about this immediately."
With a serious expression, Marx urged the Wizard King to prevent the king from acting recklessly and to notify Captain Jack the Ripper from the Green Mantis Magic Squad, who was responsible for guarding the prison.
This was a significant matter.
If the king's life was in danger, there would be dire consequences that they could not afford at this moment.
Sigh~
"Calm down, Marx... Inform Yami, Dorothy, and Rill to take their squads and head to the prison as reinforcements as soon as possible. As for Ben's actions, I am genuinely curious how he plans to handle this. For now, ask Dorothy to keep an eye on their group."
With a sigh, Wizard King Julius placed his hand on Marx's shoulder, trying to calm him down while giving his orders with unwavering composure.
"Are you sure, my lord? This could go wrong."
Not convinced by Julius's decision, Marx once again pleaded with him to reconsider allowing something so reckless to happen.
"____"
But all Marx met was Julius's calm gaze, one that silently assured him that nothing would go wrong under his watch.
Sigh~
With a defeated sigh, Marx exited the Wizard King's cabin to carry out the orders Julius had just given him.
After an hour...
Ben, Charlotte, Nebra, and Mereoleona were sitting inside the majestic king's carriage, which was flying through the sky, pulled forward by sturdy horses with magical wings on their backs.
Harry, meanwhile, was seated with the driver, who was skillfully handling the reins of the carriage.
The twenty guards accompanying them moved forward and connected their horses to the carriage.
With the carriage's enchantment, their horses gained wings and began flying alongside it.
Thunder~ Thunder~
After travelling for an hour, the clear sky began to turn cloudy, quickly darkening as thunder rolled across the heavens, with bright flashes illuminating the growing gloom.
"It seems like we have finally arrived at Chillbound Wildwood."
Mereoleona pointed out of the window, her tone matter-of-fact as she observed the dark clouds outside and the flashes of thunder that lit up the horizon.
"Ben, why did you choose this place, of all places?"
Charlotte, also peering out of the window at the ominous surroundings, asked curiously.
"Are you trying to hide something?"
Noticing Ben's movement falter for just a moment before returning to normal, Nebra narrowed her eyes and asked calmly, her tone laced with suspicion.
When they had heard Ben intended to head to Chillbound Wildwood, it had left them bewildered.
To most, it was madness to choose this dangerous forest over other, safer areas that were far more popular for hunting excursions.
Still, none of them had questioned him openly earlier, assuming there must have been a reason for such an unusual choice.
Now, however, their curiosity could no longer be contained.
Now hearing Charlotte's questioning and noticing Ben's sudden reaction, as if he had been caught doing something behind her back, both Nebra and Mereoleona's curiosity was piqued.
"____"
"Ben, tell me... what's going on? If you're giving this look, it means you're hiding something from me."
With narrowed eyes, Charlotte's demeanour shifted from sunny to cold and dark, her faint smile carrying a chilling intensity that was far from cute.
Uh~
"Oh, I wasn't... hiding anything! Really!"
Seeing the situation turning bad, Ben avoided eye contact, his panic evident as his eyes widened slightly.
His mouth stretched into an unnatural smile in a desperate attempt to appear calm.
"____"
But Charlotte's demeanour remained unchanged.
She continued staring at him with narrowed eyes, unblinking.
Sigh~
Chuckle~
"Okay... okay... don't look at me like that. It's just hunting, believe me... there's nothing more."
A nervous chuckle escaped Ben's mouth as he lightly held Charlotte's hand to calm her, speaking as steadily as he could under the pressure.
Snort~ Humph~
"Whatever you're hiding, I will find out."
Seeing through Ben's attempt to coax her, Charlotte snorted and huffed at him, her suspicion lingering.
The real reason Ben had chosen this forest was its harsh conditions, nearly impossible for normal humans to survive, and its reputation as a habitat for wild magical beasts.
It was also conveniently close to the king's palace.
The Chillbound Wildwood, a mystical forest locked in perpetual winter, was as enchanting as it was perilous.
Its serene yet dangerous beauty came from the intertwining of nature and magic, making it a place of both wonder and threat.
After some time...
The carriage, which had been flying in the sky, began its gradual descent to the ground.
Knock~ Knock~
"My lord, we will soon be arriving at the outskirts of Chillbound Wildwood."
Harry, seated at the front, knocked twice on the carriage wall, his voice carrying the message inside.
Thud~ Thud~
Thud~ Thud~
With a soft thud, the carriage successfully landed on the ground and came to a halt.
Click~
With a click, Ben opened the door of the carriage and stepped out, followed by the others.
"It's cold here."
Feeling the icy breeze, Nebra shivered as her eyes scanned the misty terrain, taking in the towering, sturdy trees standing like sentinels before them.
Snort~
"Fool... use mana skin."
Mereoleona, noticing Nebra shivering, snorted and teased her with a smirk.
"____"
"I was just about to do it... okay! I don't need any advice from a musclehead like—"
Nebra snapped, intending to retort at Mereoleona, but stopped mid-sentence when she caught the menacing look Mereoleona was giving her.
'Damn... monster.'
"Nothing."
Feeling the oppressive aura Mereoleona emitted, Nebra cursed her silently in her mind and turned her head away.
With Charlotte's guidance, Ben learned how to apply mana all over his body.
After several tries, he finally succeeded in forming mana skin.
After five minutes of preparation, Harry unhitched the horses that had been pulling Ben's carriage.
He handed them over to Ben and the others, readying them for the journey ahead.
From here on, the carriage wouldn't be able to enter the forest.
With only two horses left from the carriage, Harry signalled for it to leave.
The carriage took off once again, flying into the sky and vanishing from sight.
Ben and the others, along with the royal guards, mounted the horses and rode into the forest.
After Ben had left, many figures began to emerge one after another from the shadows, slithering across the misty terrain.
Haha~
"Our prey has already entered the slaughtering ground."
With a loud laugh, Dosill turned toward the others who had accompanied him.
His usual expression was replaced with a serious, commanding demeanour.
"This time, the prey should not escape, no matter what. I've heard he's quite the talented Magic Knight before becoming a king."
Releasing his ominous aura, Dosill issued a warning to the men accompanying him to assassinate the king in this perilous forest.
After confirming that there were no objections, Dosill led the large group, consisting of 200 assassins, into the Chillbound Wildwood, a huge smile spreading across his face.
