Chapter 70: Chapter 65: Meeting Mereoleona... They Have Chosen You...
King's Palace…
Currently, Ben was looking at the three witches before him, surprised.
He didn't expect all of them to visit him so suddenly, catching him off guard.
Ahm~
"What happened? Why are you all here?"
With a confused face, Ben looked at the three witches before him for an answer.
"My king... they are here for your security purposes... since you intended to go for a hunt."
Hearing Ben's question, Harry, Ben's personal butler who was standing behind him, stepped forward and informed Ben about the mission he sent after Ben expressed his desire to go on a hunt.
"Isn't our royal guard enough? It's just a hunt."
Listening to Harry's explanation, Ben raised his eyebrow and asked Harry to elaborate further.
Nod~
"Well, my king... it's a routine mission that is sent to the Magic Knight squads whenever a king travels..."
With a nod, Harry, as Ben's personal butler, started to explain the formal routine of how they would send security missions to three Magic Knight squads whenever the former king travelled somewhere.
And now the routine has continued since Ben expressed his desire to go on a hunt.
"____"
'What should I do? If they accompany me, there is a high chance the system's special task may end in failure.'
Hearing all this, Ben became silent.
He didn't know what to do. If he brought them with him, there was a high chance his task might end up as a failure.
"Damn... Fuegoleon, how dare you trick me."
While Ben was contemplating what to do next to complete the task, his thoughts were interrupted by an angry roar.
"____"
Grit~
"I must show him who is the elder sibling here."
Crack~
Snapping back from his thoughts, Ben looked at the one who spoke angrily while grinning menacingly and cracking her knuckles.
"Mind your manners, Mereoleona."
Hearing the angry woman beside her showing rage and cursing her own captain before the king, Charlotte tried to calm the angry lioness.
"You must be... Mereoleona Vermillion. Hi, I am Benjamin Salvador Kira. If you are comfortable, you could call me Ben."
Looking at the fuming lioness before him, Ben's back started to sweat as he took in the menacing look on Mereoleona's face.
"____"
Looking at Ben, who seemed to be unbothered by her behaviour and who met her gaze with a genuine smile,
Mereoleona searched his face for a frown or any sign of discomfort in his expression.
But she didn't find any, which left her a little confused and stunned.
This was the first time a man treated her like this, other than her stupid brother.
Hehe~
"Then I won't hold back... I heard my brother mention you are a powerful fire magic user. Is it true? Or has my brother once again lied to me?"
With a wild grin on her face, Mereoleona bent forward and asked curiously, a little mischief in her voice.
"Yeah... I can transform into Heat Blast, who is very proficient in using fire."
Hearing Mereoleona's question, Ben gave a calm nod as he told her about his Heat Blast transformation—one that made him, quite literally, a walking volcano.
After some chatting with Mereoleona, whose mood had noticeably improved compared to earlier, Ben's attention shifted to Charlotte and Nebra, who were silently observing the unfolding scene.
With a smile, both Charlotte and Nebra started chatting with him.
Even though Nebra felt a sense of rivalry with Charlotte—who was Ben's former captain and had spent more time with him than her—she still joined the conversation.
Flashback...
During these three weeks, she had heard many rumours about Ben being in a relationship with his captain, Charlotte, which made her feel very insecure.
What Nebra didn't know was that Charlotte had already marked Ben with her kiss bite.
Nebra began to feel her heart grow heavy, thinking she couldn't be with Ben.
This made her deeply depressed.
Her last bit of hope shattered when she overheard a conversation among captains.
The Coral Peacock captain, Dorothy, was teasing Charlotte, and Charlotte's blushing silence—without any denial—made Nebra feel like her world was crumbling.
A life without Ben was something she couldn't imagine.
She didn't know when she had fallen for Ben.
Was it love at first sight? Was it how he changed her entire worldview? Or was it something else entirely?
But in that moment, all she felt was despair, as if something was piercing her heart—a pain she had never experienced before.
Unable to sleep, she became determined and walked out of her room with newfound resolve.
After researching numerous texts in her family's library, without anyone noticing, Nebra found information about the political obligations that royal or noble families must follow to strengthen their lineage.
She learned that since Ben was the last remaining descendant of the royal Kira family, for the sake of the family and its future, Ben would need to marry more than one wife.
Still, Nebra remained unaware of Charlotte's kiss bite marking.
One day, with determination etched on her face, Nebra went to the Blue Rose base to have a talk with Charlotte about her feelings.
When Charlotte met Nebra, she was surprised, and the two confronted each other in a heated argument that lasted for more than an hour.
Even though Charlotte wanted to have Ben entirely for herself, she knew this wasn't possible—not with Ben, who seemed to attract women like honey attracts a hive of bees.
After going back and forth in their conversation, the two women came to a decision.
Charlotte wouldn't interfere with Nebra pursuing Ben, but both agreed they needed to be careful and protect Ben from being fooled by any poisonous vixens who might want to take advantage of their innocent Ben.
Flashback ends...
"____"
'Why do I feel like somehow they both seem to be getting along well? Did something happen between them during this time?'
Looking at the two women before him, who seemed somehow different compared to before, Ben raised an eyebrow silently.
"____"
"What are you looking at?"
Feeling Ben's gaze on them, both women stopped talking, turned to him, and asked confusedly.
"No... it's just you both seem to be getting along well."
Hearing their question, Ben shook his head and told them about his curiosity.
"____"
"____"
"When did we fight?"
"When did we fight?"
Both of them exclaimed in unison as if all of this was Ben's imagination, and they looked at him with narrowed eyes.
"____"
"It must be my imagination..."
Hahaha~
Feeling both of their gazes and questions at the same time, Ben, caught off guard by the sudden outburst, shook his hands vigorously, denying it with an awkward laugh, trying to diffuse the situation.
After half an hour...
Rundown Bar...
A young boy, literally covered in dust, his dishevelled hair sticking out in all directions, wore ragged clothes patched here and there, with some holes in them.
He was kneeling before a middle-aged man who held a large jar of beer, drinking deeply.
"Brother Dosill... the king has left the palace, and according to our investigation, they are heading in the direction of Chillbound Wildwood. The reason is unknown."
The young boy, kneeling before the middle-aged man, spoke with a cold face.
When he mentioned Chillbound Wildwood, his eyes narrowed.
"____"
"Chillbound Wildwood, huh..."
Hahaha~
When the middle-aged man named Dosill heard that their target was heading toward Chillbound Wildwood, he started laughing loudly.
Dosill opened his eyes—eyes devoid of pupils, completely white and blind.
A large tattoo of a two-headed serpent adorned his chest, its heads moving in opposite directions toward his shoulders as if alive.
Chuckle~
"If their destination is Chillbound Wildwood, then it will make our job easy."
Grin~
With a chuckle and a menacing grin spreading across his face, Dosill spoke with a mysterious undercurrent in his voice.
"Go and inform everyone. We are departing in 5 minutes..."
After grinning for a few seconds, Dosill stood up and gave the order while skillfully pouring himself another mug of beer from a wooden barrel, moving as though he could see perfectly.
Nod~
The young boy stood up, nodded, and hurriedly left to execute the order.
"____"
Gulp~ Gulp~
Once the boy had left, Dosill was the only one left in the rundown bar.
The silence of the room was broken only by the sound of his gulps as he drank his beer.
"Of all places, they have chosen you... Chillbound Wildwood."
The carefree expression on Dosill's face vanished, replaced by a serious one.
His hand unconsciously touched his lifeless eyes as if lost in deep thought.
King's Carriage...
After moving out of the palace, the carriage Ben was currently riding in suddenly began increasing speed, the horses pulling it galloping faster and faster.
Ten royal guards, riding on their mounted horses, flanked the carriage at the front and back, maintaining a steady formation.
Thud~ Thud~
Thud~ Thud~
With a powerful push from their hooves, the horses pulling the carriage suddenly leapt into the air.
Flap~
Before the horses could descend, black wings appeared on their backs out of nowhere.
With a single powerful flap, the winged horses began ascending into the sky, effortlessly pulling the carriage along with them.
