I'm Really Not A Nen Exorcist (HxH Fanfic)

Chapter 472: Chapter 472 Status Quo

Moses seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth...

They couldn't find him, and his phone was unreachable.

At first, Menchi and Shizuku weren't too worried, thinking Moses might be out on an errand or visiting Ging.

Perhaps, in a few days, Moses would reach out to them himself.

After all, Moses was different from Ging, and he wouldn't suddenly disappear or have his phone unreachable for extended periods.

So Menchi and Shizuku stayed in the ancient city, and while waiting, they tried to contact Moses every day.

However, as time passed…

A week, two weeks, three weeks, a month...

Moses hadn't returned to the ancient city and was still out of contact.

Only then did Menchi and Shizuku sense something was amiss.

They first contacted Biscuit and Kanzai to inquire about Moses's whereabouts, but they were unsure as well.

After learning about the situation, Biscuit and Kanzai became very concerned and started looking for Moses's whereabouts too.

Their efforts triggered an extensive search operation for Moses.

Among the Twelve Zodiacs, Cheadle the Dog, Pyon the Rabbit, and Saccho the Horse put aside their work one after another and joined the team to search for Moses's whereabouts.

But after searching for another month, there was still no substantial progress.

No one knew where Moses had gone or why his phone remained unreachable.

Later, Cheadle thought of Ging.

She also remembered that one of Ging's friends could materialize a 'tracking' Nen Tool.

As this thought emerged, it felt like the quickest way to find Moses was within reach.

However-

"I can't get through."

Cheadle slowly lowered her phone, with black lines on her forehead.

"Sorry, I was too naive."

She looked at Menchi and others in the conference room and said with gritted teeth.

Finding Ging was no less challenging than finding Moses.

And actively contacting Ging was not something that could be easily accomplished.

After all, disappearing and being unreachable was Ging's forte.

"Let's issue a missing person request within the association."

Pyon suggested with a slightly gloomy expression as she stood up, "Although the chances may be slim, we might come across a member with tracking abilities."

Sometimes, when facing tough problems, the only solution is to rely on Nen Abilities.

Among the new members the association had absorbed in recent years, perhaps Nen User with a tracking or locating ability would emerge.

Naturally, everyone had no objections to Pyon's suggestion.

Issuing the request would increase the likelihood of finding Moses...

Of course…

The ideal scenario would be making contact with Ging.

After all, it was possible Moses was with Ging, and had been led astray by him!

Inside the ruins.

Moses casually grabbed a handful of green algae and stuffed it into his mouth while drawing grooves on a flat stone slab with his other hand.

Not far away…

Rat Jewel was burrowing in and out of an ancient suit of armor. Suddenly, it popped its tiny head out from the shoulder guard, holding up a gray ring with hints of gold, chirping excitedly as it presented its find to Moses, who was focused on practicing the Divine Script.

"Chu chu!"

However, Moses was entirely absorbed in his study, oblivious to Rat Jewel's calls.

Seeing this, Rat Jewel's large eyes showed a glint of disappointment as it quieted down and sluggishly crawled out of the armor.

"Chuu."

It walked over to a wall piled with its spoils gathered from various corners of the ruins, which had formed a small mountain several meters high.

The majority of the pile consisted of jewelry, such as rings and necklaces.

Ding.

The ring made a faint sound as Rat Jewel tossed it onto the pile of treasures.

Although the environment inside the ruins greatly satisfies Rat Jewel's treasure hunting hobby, it still became tiresome over time.

This was mainly because Moses showed little interest in the gold, silver, and jewels it found, affecting Rat Jewel's satisfaction with its finds.

Further away…

Mammon stood atop a tower-like structure, with his dark bat wings spread at his sides. He lowered his head and looked from afar at Moses, who was concentrating on practicing the Divine Script.

'Although it's different from what I expected, this 'current situation' is more beneficial to me.'

Watching Moses in his relentless focus, Mammon's eyes sparkled with flecks of light.

Rather than letting Moses leave the ruins...

Mammon would prefer to see Moses stay here willingly.

If conditions permit, it would be best if Moses could stay here for another eight or ten years.

After all, in this way, he can steadily absorb more greed.

But this was just a fantasy.

Mammon knew that Moses remained to learn the various ancient Contracts Mammon had mastered.

Once Moses mastered all these Contracts, he would have no reason to continue his secluded practice within the ruins.

'I don't know many Contracts, but they're enough to keep you busy learning for years…though I wonder if you can maintain this intense focus for the entire time.'

Over the past few months, Mammon had witnessed Moses's rigorous dedication firsthand and finally understood how Moses managed to master Contracts in such a short period.

It wasn't just his extraordinary talent, as Moses's dedication was equally remarkable.

Mammon wasn't sure how long Moses could sustain this intense study, but he didn't mind teaching Moses every Contract he knew.

For Mammon, it was a very favorable exchange.

Moses immersed himself in the Divine Scripts created by early humans.

As time went on, Mammon's appetite for absorbing greed only grew.

Initially, he consumed the greed of one hundred people, then two hundred, and eventually three hundred.

Not only that, he increased the frequency of his feeding, from once every three months to once every two months.

It's just that he is very smart, and the targets he chooses every time are heinous criminals.

This tricky approach successfully made Moses ignore it.

In fact, when Moses saw the group of prisoners in their striped uniforms, he even taught Mammon a method to improve his efficiency in gathering greed.

"Do you want to understand the meaning of life?"

"Do you want to truly live?"

"Do you want freedom and wealth?"

"Complete this trial and you will get everything you desire!"

These were the lines and approach Moses suggested for Mammon. Its main function is to give hope to the criminals teleported to the ruins. Pursuing freedom and wealth would, in turn, ignite a stronger sense of greed in them.

Mammon was deeply inspired at the time, and after trying it out two or three times, he did indeed absorb more greed than usual.

"Humans are truly fascinating beings."

Having tasted the sweetness, Mammon couldn't help but marvel at human creativity again. He even named this place, [The Void Paradise Space].

The name was chosen specifically to respond to the question 'Where is this place' that the people brought here always ask.

And the name [Void Paradise Space] directly corresponded to his ability, [Hand of the Void Paradise]. (T/N: I changed Mammon's ability from Hand of No Return to Paradise to Hand of the Void Paradise.)

With Moses's suggestions and guidance, Mammon's 'meals' yielded satisfying results each time.

In order to keep this 'status quo' going, Mammon hopes that Moses can maintain this state of practice for a little longer.

To this end-

Mammon had even deceived Moses about one matter.

When he went out to select targets, he did not help Moses pass on the message.

Upon returning to the ruins, he deceived Moses into thinking that the message had already been sent out.

All of this was to keep things as they were...
