- Will you talk normally? - I asked the Anomaly looming over us.
The creature had finally formed and now we could get a better look at it. A large body, the envy of any bodybuilder, coloured black, was covered with white symbols. From the Anomaly there was a fog that seemed to be made up of primordial darkness. But the most interesting thing was, of course, its conspicuous horns in the shape of an inverted figure eight. Brings back memories. He bled me dry when I was a kid, Dahaka.
- I won't let you change the fate of the world at will, mortal! - said Anomaly, clenching her fists. - You will pay for interfering with the fabric of reality!
- For the sake of truth, I haven't really interfered yet, - I decided to clarify this point, while the girls were stunned silent, looking at this miracle.
- But you are going to do it in the future! I am Dahaka, I will destroy you for such insolence! - This type declared, but immediately crouched down in pain. - GRAAAA!!!
- You're seriously threatening your creator with no powers, being nothing more than a reanimated nightmare and a mere pump for Light? You don't have much of a brain. Well, that's not surprising. You're not even a full-fledged creature with a normal mind.
- But I am your nightmare Kyle Smith!" Dahaka wheezed, standing up to his full height. It was extremely difficult to hurt an Anomaly, but as its creator, I could still do it. - A nightmare of punishment for interfering with the flow of fate!
It makes sense. After Prince of Persia, I associated Dahaka with an unstoppable pursuer who punishes interference in such subtle matters.
- Well, you'll get your chance to punish me. You'll have to wait.
- I know how to wait," Anomaly muttered. - Even if it takes eons, I will punish you. I am inevitability itself!
- I'll look forward to it," Dahake said, smiling mockingly. - In the meantime, do me a favour and pump and provide me with Light. Okay?
The monster didn't say anything, but continued to glare at me. Gave a sign to the quiet girls, went to the exit of the detention cell. When we were outside, I closed the door and blocked the possibility of getting inside. Just in case.
- And what was it? - Gerda asked.
- An anomaly," I replied, thinking about what had happened.
- I understood it already, - the girl said mockingly, crossing her arms under her chest. - I'd like to know more about this phenomenon.
- An anomaly is...
It's a creature of the human subconscious. A living nightmare that shouldn't exist, yet has the will to "live". It is difficult to destroy them, because the Anomaly's body is in reality only a manifestation of the phenomenon itself. It can be compared to a shadow. No matter how much you beat it, it can't harm its owner. The only difference is that the Anomaly can easily kill or do something worse than death. The creature itself is in the collective unconscious.
The Anomalies have also been categorised in several ways. The first is origin. There are three in total. Fairy tale, as is clear from the name is a nightmare that arose as a result of reading a fairy tale for example. The next origin was trauma. Such Anomalies are created from people's fears and phobias. The third variant of origin was original. Such creatures were a reference to something or were something new.
Then there was the type. Humanoid. Surprisingly enough, the Anomaly resembled a human, but was not. Animal. Acts more on instinct, without deliberate malice. Religious. As is clear from the name Anomalies associated with religions or are something incomprehensible to the human mind. Inanimate objects. Plants, dolls, wardrobe items, and so on. Machine/artefact. The name reflects the essence. Abstraction. Such Anomalies do not have any clear shape. And the last type is a tool. If highly simplified, they look like cursed artefacts from fantasy, like Sauron's ring or Frostmourne. They give great power, but the price is sometimes too high.
The third sign of classification was the class of danger. There were five in total: Zane, Tet, He, Vav, and Aleph. Zane had the least danger, while Aleph was already a total armageddon, often possessing the power of the gods.
The Anomalies were all different. Black, white, red. But they all want to get their hands on something. It's usually a good old-fashioned massacre of those humans of yours.
You had to do this kind of tambourine dance to accelerate the gathering of the Light. It takes an unimaginable amount of Light to affect the entire Earth. The devices that replace the Anomalies can't generate enough. And the planet's population is slowly growing. Even a hundred years from now, it's not certain that we'll be able to store enough light. Besides, the devices have a disadvantage. It makes no sense to put them in one place, as they absorb all the available energy for recycling. The Anomalies don't have that problem. They appear to be able to recycle a greater range of energy or have tapped into some dimension.
Alas, there are aspects of some of my technology and the System I have not yet been able to understand. Like what kind of energy they were running on. It was like an artificial block. And who had given me the System itself and what it would require in return was not clear. After some time I planned to solve this puzzle. The means and opportunities for that appeared.
It is the same thing with Light and everything connected with it. The problem is that in Marvel there was just an infinite number of dimensions, types of energy, creatures that are sources of forces and so on. And try picking out the right one. Maybe I'm drawing on the power of the Beyond, or maybe I'm drawing on the power of Cyttorak. You can't tell without a bottle.
At least I could skip some unpleasant moments, like sending my subordinates to certain and sometimes horrible death for the sake of energy extraction or the opportunity to suppress the Anomaly. And there were many more such moments. However, for such simplicity and "clean hands" had to pay a serious strengthening of Anomalies. For example, Alephs are now able to create their own worlds, where they could show themselves in all their glory. And other classes have grown in strength.
- So, who is this big guy classified as? - Aki asked after I told them what was what.
- Hmm, it's definitely an Aleph, though not the strongest. The origin is supposed to be a reference to one character, but at the same time Dahaka represents my fear of inevitable retribution for interfering with the fate of the world. It's more like the latter. The type I'm thinking of is humanoid. Religious at the very least, since this creature is death incarnate. Something like that.
- It's a fascinating creature," Gerda said thoughtfully. - Having seen the whole process, I can say that I've never seen anything like it before.
- What exactly are you talking about? - clarified the Japanese woman.
- And about this phenomenon, which is called Anomaly, and about the way of its creation.
- Was it worth it? Still, it feels almost as dangerous as Abe's dick," Aki said.
- That is for now. When it absorbs some of the Light it's produced, it'll be much stronger," I reassured the girls. - And even then, it was worth it. In addition to Light, from Anomalies you can get E.P.O.S.* armour, weapons and a gift. This equipment imitates the power of the defeated. It's as powerful as the E.G.O.. Also, only a person with unwavering spirit and will was able to use the full power of the equipment, and in exceptional cases, even discover something new. Strength goes to strength, so to speak.
- And what does this new abbreviation mean? - Gerda asked a question.
- Experimentally Obtained Instruments of Humility. Essentially, they are similar to E.G.O. and are divided into three parts. Weapons and armour, I think, are obvious, and a gift is an item or an altered body part. Here, for example, Aki has Mimicry, that cleaver with flesh and eyes. You can get them either by expending enkephalin or by suppressing the Anomaly. The E.P.O.S.S. has a major disadvantage. Wearing these things is like surrounding yourself with the personality of an Anomaly. If the mind and body are weak, there will be erosion, assimilation, after which the unfortunate will turn into a new Anomaly.
- And with this Dahaka, or whatever his name is, what are we going to do? - Aki asked.
- Wait for him to be filled with Light. Then I'll perform the suppression and Dahaka will be safe for a while. But it will have to be done from time to time.
- You're going to do more Anomalies?
- Yes. And more than one. Afterwards, as my subordinates become stronger, they'll be able to suppress the creatures themselves.
Next, I was bombarded with questions about E.P.O.S.s. After answering them, we approached the fighters at the base. Pausing, I turned to Amelia Black, who was the most senior in rank:
- Mrs Black, the first Anomaly has been created. It will now produce the Light so vital to our Plan. If there are any difficulties, contact Kyle Smith immediately," I told the woman in the guise of the Head. - Also, under no circumstances unlock the holding cell or speak to the Anomaly.
- I understand, Head," Amelia said, with some resentment in her emotions.
- I don't think you're stupid children, if that's what you're thinking,' he clarified to her. - 'It's just that this Anomaly has a mind and might try to persuade some of the staff to free themselves by telling all sorts of tall tales. Or do something else. You have to be prepared for that.
- I apologise," the woman apologised slightly embarrassed.
- That's all right. Hand out a double set of Moonstone items at the same time. Anomalies have a horror aura on the brain. It makes the mind curl up quickly.
Amelia nodded and went to do my errands. I teleported home with the girls, where I continued my story. The girls were naturally interested in E.P.O.S.'s. However, it would be a while before they could get them. First they needed to collect more enkephalin, distill it into Light, and suppress the Anomaly. But Aki and Gerda were not upset, as they had some interesting toys to keep the girls occupied for a while.
Well, now that I had another powerful source of Light, it was possible to create new Anomalies on an industrial scale. There was only one thing stopping me. I don't have enough subordinates to suppress my creatures. I can't always be there myself. Next thing I know, I'll create a couple or three weaker class Anomalies than Aleph. That's the kind of crap the guys and gals are strong enough to destroy.
While I took a small step for mankind, but a giant one for the Plan, the attacks from everyone increased. And the larger calibre comrades began to arrive. And I began to think about what to do next. Yes, I was still beating back the attacks, but how long would that last? When would the Shield or Hydra or some other Illuminati pay close attention to me? Right now it hasn't happened yet due to the mopping up of all the tails, but it can't last forever. Still, when you have guys with unknown technologies and capabilities, you want to know who these outlaws are.
So I've decided to divide my activities into several levels. The first is official. It's all company-related. The second would be unofficial, namely the work of the Refraction. And the third would be criminal. I'll create fictitious groups that will have to first of all besiege the gangs of guys like Sedovy, Quinpin and so on. From the outside, it will look like a mafia showdown and won't draw as much attention as if the gangs were being slaughtered by people with unknown weapons and superpowers. And gang warfare... Well, that's the usual stuff. You just have to leave the cops and civilians out of it. Then there won't be so much interest.
It's a good thing the Hand's been quiet. Killing so many powerful subordinates has taken its toll on a serious organisation. And the Igarashi had a death grip on the Beast's followers when they learnt what had happened. Even now, though, Hands' emissaries were looking for someone in the United States. And it wasn't me. Alas, we couldn't find out what they were after. Even Benji couldn't get much information out of the heads of Rookie's agents.
But enough with the sad stuff. I'm gonna watch some zombie TV while I take a little break. And on the telly, there was talk of revising the mandatory number of wives. Apparently, they're going to pass that law soon. I remember in my first life, it was the Roman Empire that killed the possibility of polygamy at the root. It was because of problems with property division. Therefore, the empire decided to make it easier and banned such marriages, although even in the Old Testament were described cases of polygamy. Later Christianity also adhered to this concept. But this would not work here.
Oh, well. Maybe we'll get something more interesting. I ended up switching channels until I came across a live broadcast honouring a recent hero.
- ... I'd like to thank Patriot** for selflessly saving seven people, including one man and three children! - Jacqueline Morgan, president of the Manhattan Borough of Manhattan, spoke inspirationally from the screen with her hand on her voluminous chest. She was a searing brunette and now stood next to the "true Aryan" as if straight from the posters. - He's a real hero!
The audience, consisting mostly of women, went wild. You bet he's so handsome, and a hero on top of that. Some even shouted that they wanted to have children with him.
- Thank you Mrs Morgan for your kind words, but I'm not a hero," said the man in the American flag cloak, blue suit with red gloves and boots, with a pleasant smile. The attendees quieted down a bit at this. - In fact, the true Heroes are the police officers, firefighters, and other people that are willing to save those in need! They are the ones who risk their lives every day for the safety of others! Even just a concerned person who helps someone else is a Hero! And me... I have impenetrable skin, super strength, super speed and flight. That's why it's wrong to call me a hero. You're the real heroes!
Now the Patriot pointed his hand at the police officers standing near the podium. Five women and two men were embarrassed by such words, and the hero continued:
- So friends, let us together thank them for their selfless labour, thanks to which the peaceful citizens of this country can sleep in peace!
Once again a storm of applause, directed, among others, at the proudly puffed-up policemen. Heh, he knows how to get a crowd going. Good for him. There's a reason I--
But my thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
- Yes, yes.
- Mr Smith, you have a visitor," Molly, my secretary, a pretty little brown girl, said flirtatiously as she entered the office.
- Yeah, let them come in," she said, switching off the screen. Well, it's business as usual.
Some time later, when I had sorted out the current situation, Gerda invited me to her place for tea. At first we talked mostly about our clandestine activities, but then the girl changed the subject to chilopnesis.
- Tell me Kyle, is it true that this drug is able not only to heal from wounds, but also to return long-lost things? - Outwardly calmly asked Gerda, holding the cup of tea with both palms. At the same time she felt a strong hope and deep sadness.
- That's right. Gerda, is something wrong? - I asked her anxiously.
- No, I'm fine," the girl replied with a shake of her head. - I forgot about your ability to see people's hearts. My sorrow is for my mother's illness. Long ago, when her family was still alive, she became pregnant. But as a result of an assassination attempt, Mum barely survived, but miscarried. At the same time, her family was killed. Then there was recovery and revenge. However, it's possible that the true culprit is still alive and well. Since that terrible day, my mother can't have children. I heard from Akiko that chilopnesis is possible. Please tell me that this liquid can heal!
The last words Gerda had already spoken, holding my hands and looking into my eyes. In the girl's mind at that moment there was a real storm.- Yes, hilopnesis can do more than that, - I answered, causing Gerda to smile happily. Without waiting for her to continue, I teleported one ampoule and handed it to her. - Here you go. One is enough to heal your entire body.
- Kyle, you..." Gerda whispered, staring at the ampoule. I switched off my empathy at that moment, out of sheer emotion. - I don't know how to describe in words the magnitude of my gratitude. Know that I'll be forever grateful for this, and I'll do anything to repay you.
- You don't have to do anything," I said with a smile, stroking the girl's head. - We're practically family, and family doesn't have bills to pay.
- Every day I am convinced that I love you more and more! - said Gerda, with tears in her eyes, and buried her face in my chest, hugging me tightly. She seemed to be physically inferior to Aki, but I couldn't even breathe.
- You're going to choke me," I wheezed.
- Oh, I'm sorry! - The girl said guiltily, pulling back a little. - I must have used telekinesis for joy.
- It's okay," I reassured her. - Actually, I like that kind of display of affection. And yes, I love you more and more, too. And so does Aki.
- You do? Then you won't mind another expression of my feelings? - Gerda asked, putting her hands on my shoulders and pulling me down gently.
- I definitely don't mind," I answered her honestly, kissing her.
After a while, the red Gerda pulled away from me, breathing deeply. After sitting in my arms a little longer, she stirred and jumped up.
- What are you doing?
- Come on, Kyle! - she exclaimed, pulling me by the arm. - We have to tell Mom soon!
- Whatever you say," I told her, letting myself be carried along.
Gerda practically ran towards the room where Miss Wright was felt. We covered the distance in one breath, and practically piled into the woman's study.
- Mother, we have a very important thing to tell you!
- Am I going to have a granddaughter or even a grandson? - Victoria asked with a slight smile. And this one too. Are my girls' mothers in cahoots? - And hello, Kyle.
- Hello, Miss Wright.
- Mum! What are you talking about?! - an embarrassed Gerda was outraged.
- What do you mean? I'm not a young girl anymore, and I'd like to babysit your baby before I'm an old wreck. Besides, I had hoped you would be doing it just now. Oh," she said, putting her palm to her mouth. Her emotion, however, indicated that she had spoken on purpose.
- Mum, were you peeping?! - The girl exclaimed in astonishment, recoiling from the woman.
- I had to supervise such an important process. And besides, I can feel almost everything within a mile. What about fifty yards away?
- Mum!" Gerda said angrily, stomping her foot. Heh, and when she takes off her mask, she's a perfect sweetheart. I discreetly gave Victoria a thumbs-up. The woman smiled a little more. - Sometimes you're just unbearable! Oh, never mind. We're here on an important matter.
- And what could be more important than grandchildren? - the elder Wright asked, leaning on her arm.
- Restoring your fertility," replied the calmer Gerda, resuming her favourite demeanour.
- And in what way? - outwardly calm, but with a lingering pain in her mind, the woman asked.
- Kyle has a remedy that can work a miracle, bringing back the opportunity that was lost.
- It's true, Miss Wright," I interjected, showing her a vial of chilopnesis. - The substance in this vial can heal almost anything as long as the person is still alive. And the ability to have children, too, regardless of the cause of the illness.
- ... You know, Essex offered to give me back my ability to have a child," Victoria said after a short silence, staring at the ampoule of XP. - In return, she asked me to do something.
- What was that?
- She wanted me to give you up.
- And you? - Gerda asked fearfully, clenching her fists.
- I refused," said the woman, with a faint smile. - How could I give my own child to that thing?
- Mummy!" exclaimed Gerda in tears and threw herself into Victoria's arms.
For several minutes more the ladies wept and recalled various touching incidents from their lives. At this point I moved away and turned away, so as not to embarrass them, looking at the interior of the office. However, they quickly calmed down and instantly cleaned themselves up, removing all traces of tears. That's what mastery means.
- Mum, let's hurry up and use that remedy and cure you.
- If you say so," the woman agreed and looked at me. - What should I do?
- Nothing. Just freeze for a second while I give you the injection.
As I got closer, I injected the liquid into the older Wright's arm. She froze from the effect of the substance for a second, looking at me with wide-open eyes, then relaxed and exhaled heavily.
- Now what?
- Now you can give Gerda a brother or sister," I said cheerfully.
- I guess I'll have to," she agreed thoughtfully, but she immediately perked up. - Kyle, how can I repay you for this? If you want, I'll give you half of my property. I'm sorry, no way, because I have to leave something for Gerda and the baby-to-be. But even half, that's a lot, believe me.
- You know, Miss Wright, it's ironic, but not so long ago, Aki's mum and I had a similar conversation. And I'm going to give you the same answer I gave Aunt Naomi. You've already given away what's most precious to you.
The woman saw Gerda smiling contentedly in my arms and hummed thoughtfully.
- I'm glad to hear such words, but you should think about my proposal. And you know, Miss is too formal. Call me Victoria, or better yet, Mum. Still, I hope we'll be a family soon.
- Well, I don't think it's too soon for that. And I only have one mum. So I wouldn't want to call anyone else that.
- What if you were born into a big family?
- Then the conversation would be different, - answered the woman, stroking quietly purring Gerda. - But I think it's not a matter of the near future. Once we're related, then we'll deal with it.
- Whatever you say, Kyle.
- You know, you can pay me back if you want to.
- Yeah? How? - Victoria asked with interest.
- You see, I work for someone who wants to improve the world and make it safer. And you might be able to help in that endeavour....
As I sat back down, I outlined my plan to the woman for a while longer. She asked clarifying questions, which we answered together with Gerda.
- You know, that's not the worst idea for changing the world I've ever heard," Gerda's mum said, leaning back in her chair when I had finished. Seeing my questioning face, she replied. - I used to belong to an organisation called the Hellfire Club, with the title of White Queen. And there was a lot of talk about taking over the world.
Ha-ha-ha, what?! What a mother-in-law I have!
- You didn't tell me that," Gerda said, leaning against me.
- It's in the past, so there was no point in telling you, baby. I got there because I had aristocratic roots and ancestors who were members of the Club. You could say it was hereditary. But I digress. I want Gerda and the baby to live in a safe world. I've accepted your invitation, Kyle. So you can count on my full support.
- Great," I said happily and teleported a pair of Moon Metal rings. - Here you go. You can use these to block telepaths from accessing your mind.
- Quite a valuable piece of jewellery," the woman said respectfully, taking the rings in her hands and putting them on immediately. - I suspect Gerda's new jewellery is also made of this metal?
- That's right," I confirmed. Well, my business is growing, and it can not but be happy.
Well, it's been a wonderful day. Gerda is literally glowing with happiness, and her mum is not far behind. Besides, the elder Wright's financial empire will now work for me.
The next day, after I'd accumulated Light, I decided to create some more Anomalies, only weaker. And this time I used humanity's fears instead of my own. As a result, I did not create Alephs (5th class), but two Vavs (4th class) and one Tet (second class). Only like that anecdote, there was a nuance.
Having already had some experience, I decided to create several at once to save time. In doing so, they were united by one fear. Fear of the state.
- Its scales tipped according to the gravity of the sins committed.
That was the description of the first Anomaly that popped into my head.
- People have been committing sins since ancient times. Why do they do such things even though they know it's bad?
It was the second one.
- She killed to save the unfortunate from a worse fate.
And this is the third. The Punishment Bird, the Bird of Justice and the Big Bird. The first was the fear of punishment for the innocent, the second of unjust judgement, and the third was the Big Sister that watches you and looks for red tape****. But the main fun was that they could merge into a new Anomaly called the Apocalypse Bird. Oh, I feel like I'm gonna be bored.
- I see you," Big Bird said in a melodious voice, peering through the porthole.
The anomaly was, as the name implies, a large, round, black bird with arms instead of wings, yellow, E.G.O. Gerda-like eyes, and a sharp beak. She held a lantern, inside of which was a wick of her feathers.
- And what do you see?
- You must be killed before the monster does it first. He's eager to wipe you out.
- You mean Dahaka? The big guy with the horns?
- Yes. Open the door or the monster will kill you! - said the bird in a demanding voice. - He's almost ready to break free!
- I prefer to suffer, - answered her, and I myself thought. She, what can she see even through obstacles? Impressive, Big Sister.
The bird of Justice was next.
- Are you ready to answer for your sins? - It wheezed.
I have to say, it looked more cartoonish than scary. Except that appearances were deceptive, and I sensed a hidden danger from this Anomaly. It was a tall bird with long, skinny limbs and neck. The body was rounded and the long wings were like arms covered in black plumage. The Anomaly's head had patches in place of eyes, like the Roman goddess of justice. At the sides were two small white feathers with red tips. On the curve of her neck were golden scales, with one scale bowl being larger than the other.
- Aha. When you have fair scales, then we'll talk. Even then, it's not for you to judge me.
- Fool. Justice will catch up with you anyway!
- I'll be waiting," he replied indifferently.
The next one was a punishing bird. It was very small, about the size of the palm of my hand or a little bigger. It had white plumage with a red spot on its breast.
- I will punish a bad man like you! - the bird proudly chirped in a sweet voice.
- I will. Just grow a bigger beak, you little bastard.
- Cheeky! How can you say that to a girl?! - exclaimed indignantly, flying round the porthole.
- Nightmare. This world affects even the Anomalies. What's next? Will they want to be married off? - I asked myself in astonishment, deciding to retreat. - The Bird of the Apocalypse hopefully wouldn't push something like that.
I had other things to do right now, though. I could sense that Dahaka had almost reached a level of Light filling where the Klipot system could no longer effectively contain it. The big bird only confirmed my feelings. I should have called the guys down here just in case. The first Anomaly had absorbed so much Light that it would be impossible to dispel it. We'll have to subdue it the old-fashioned way, with something heavy on the head, as Thanos willed.
It didn't take long for the girls and boys to arrive, so in a dozen minutes we were gathered for a meeting. Our five were also joined by Anna Stone and Sandra Evans. The latter was to lead the soon-to-be-established PMC. She had medium-length black hair, partially pulled back, correct facial features, large green eyes and a soft, inviting smile. That said, the woman had virtually no exposed skin or make-up, which was uncharacteristic of the local world. Her three-piece suit concealed her figure. Even her hands were covered with gloves. Only her ample breasts stood out in this unisex outfit, due to their prominent size.
- And so, ladies and gentlemen. Dahaku will soon have to be suppressed. At this time I will not be able to help you in case of emergencies, so be more vigilant than ever before.
- How long will you be gone Head? - Sandra asked in a soft voice, politely.
- 'It's hard to say, as the time running in the Anomaly world is likely to be different.
- Then we will wait for you, - said Anna.
- 'Well, until then, it hasn't started, we can discuss some...'
- Attention! Attention! Klipot system overheating in Anomaly's containment chamber Relentless pursuer in two minutes! - Pronounced an inanimate female voice throughout the base. - Aleph class reality influence! The scale of influence is growing exponentially! All employees below Vav level (class 4) should take shelter in safe places! Vav and Aleph level personnel should immediately prepare to suppress the Anomaly!
- Here we go," I said, somewhat relieved. Still, waiting for trouble is exhausting. - I'll take care of the Anomaly, and you prepare for possible trouble.
- Can we go with you, too, Head? - Gerda asked, pointing at Aki at the same time.
- As the strongest warriors, I think it's best if you stay here.
- But let me accompany you," Aki joined my persuasion.
- Head, we're not girls ourselves," Stone said, to Sandra's nod of agreement. - 'Let them come with you.
- 'Well, good. Then let's not procrastinate.
I stood up and used the teleporter to transport us to Dahaki's cell. The light in it was now beyond my limits. And maybe a little help from the girls wouldn't go amiss.
- Shut down the Klipot system and open the holding cell," I said, addressing the base's AI.
- Got it.
The next second we were hit by the horror radiating from the Anomaly of almost the highest level. But thanks to the Moonstone, we were able to almost completely ignore that influence.
- Finally, I am Dahaka, I will fulfil my destiny and cleanse the world of such a vicious intruder! - Dahaka said triumphantly, stepping closer to us.
- We'll see about that, my little pie friend.
The next second we were pulled into the world created by the Anomaly.
Retreat #1.
- I hope it'll be okay," Anna said, rubbing the bridge of her nose with her prosthetic.
- Even now, before most of the organisation's members are biologically enhanced, we're a serious threat," Sandra Evans said with a slight smile, sitting back in her chair. - We'd better send reinforcements to all the bases just in case.
- Agreed.
Having given the appropriate orders the women together with Benjamin, Daniel and the scientist Amelia Williams began to solve the current issues.
The soldiers sent to reinforce them slowly teleported to their designated locations. All except those who had to go to base 5.
- What the hell? - asked one of them. - Why won't it let us in?
- Maybe the coordinates are off?
- I hope it's not a problem on the other side.
- Let me see," said one of the guards in the teleportation room. After poking around for a few minutes, he confessed. - I don't know what's wrong. Call the eggheads. Let them see what's going on.
But before they could do anything, a rift opened up in the room, casting all shades of purple. Out of it literally fell out the head of the very same base number 5.
- Bastard, Paula, what happened to you?! - exclaimed one of the soldiers, seeing that the teleported woman is covered in blood.
- All later! Where's the Head?!
- The anomaly is being suppressed. There's no telling how long it'll be.
Paula responded with a profanity-laced tirade. She calmed down and, breathing heavily, asked about the remaining leadership. When she heard that they were at the base, she rushed towards the main hall.
- Hey Ramirez, wait, let me give you a HP shot!
- That's not my blood!
The woman was rushing towards the centre of the base, almost knocking people over. They tried to stop her and ask her what was going on, but she just refused. It would have to wait. As she approached her destination, she waited for the thick flaps of the doors to open.
- ...I think we should increase our coverage here and here," a young man with long blue hair spoke.
- Sorry to interrupt, but I have some very important news!
- Ramirez? What? You're covered in blood! Give her XP! - Anna Stone jumped up from her seat.
- I'm fine. It's not my blood," the woman replied, shaking her head.
- What happened?
- Hydra! Hydra took all the supplies of Light left for emergencies and the ones the machine had gathered for the whole week!
- B**t..." Stone exhaled in astonishment, sitting back down while the rest of the crowd was in shock.
End of retreat #1.
Retreat #2.
A short time later.
- Professor Reid, can you distract yourself for a second?" came the voice of a supervisor over the girl's head.
- Mr Siemens? - She asked absent-mindedly, setting the papers aside.
When she looked from the papers to the man, she saw that the boss was holding an ampoule with something glowing in it. And it immediately caught the girl's full attention.
- We have just received samples of the so-called Light and enkephalin. The information was provided by a spy embedded in the organisation that created or found these substances. Your job is to study them thoroughly and find a way to recreate the samples for use in Hydra's affairs," the man said, holding out the vial to his subordinate.
As soon as the girl touched the substance, which only resembled glass, she instantly understood everything. This was the source of the changes people had undergone in the future. Has it really begun?!
- But it will be a little later, - interrupted her thoughts Siemens. - Right now you should gather the essentials and evacuate to the reserve base. Those people from whom we took the Light may try to get it back. That can't happen. Just like we can't let the staff of scientists here be captured.
- Understood. I'll proceed immediately.
- Good. And take only what you really need. Destroy everything else," the man ordered, turning and heading for the exit. But he stopped halfway and turned around. - Light is very important for all mankind. I hope you can reveal its secrets to Carmen.
- I will, Mr Siemens, - said the girl, looking at the back of the departing chief, and then moved her gaze to the ampoule in her hand. - I will...
