I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 6

As the sun set, people working in the fields hurried home one after another. Occasionally, barking dogs and the chirping of insects filled the village. The village chief and his family had retired to their house to rest after dinner. Shi Yi and Shi Liu played in the courtyard for a while. The child couldn’t keep his eyes open after a long day, so Shi Yi carried him back to their room.

After discussing with Pei Xing and the others, they decided to set off the next day and rest separately.

When Pei Xing returned to their room, Shi Yi was already sound asleep with the child in his arms. In the dim light, Pei Xing leaned over and kissed Shi Yi’s face. He then retrieved a bottle of medicine from his bag and applied it to both of them. Afterward, he removed his coat and laid down on the outside, hugging Shi Yi, and drifted to sleep.

After a peaceful night’s sleep, Pei Xing headed to the mountains to hunt for some prey in the morning. When Shi Yi woke up, he felt the warmth still by his side. There was a bottle of medicine on the bedside. After applying it to himself, he applied it to the child. As he gently roused the child, he snuggled closer in his arms.

Shi Yi gently rubbed the child’s head and said, “Don’t act like a baby; get up when you wake up.”

Shi Liu rubbed his eyes, got dressed neatly, and then nestled into Shi Yi’s arms. He raised his eyebrows and asked, “Third brother, are we going to be Brother Pei’s servants from now on?”

Shi Yi chuckled at this and ruffled his little brother’s face. “What servants? Didn’t Brother Pei say he would treat you as his own child? You’ve got a valuable protector now; hold onto this thick thigh.”

Shi Liu might not have fully understood Shi Yi’s words, but he knew he should be good to Pei Xing. He remembered from the previous day that Pei Xing had asked Shi Yi to keep him warm, so he asked, “Then, third brother, will you keep Brother Pei’s bed warm in the future?”

Shi Yi smiled awkwardly.

Shi Liu remembered that in the winter, his third brother always afraid of cold and hugged him to sleep each night. He was worried if third brother warm Brother Pei’s bed than no one would warm his third brother’s bed, “Third brother, from now on I will warm your bed for you. You can focus on keeping Brother Pei’s bed warm instead.”

Shi Yi laughed softly; there was no other way to explain it to his young brother.

.

Pei Xing had managed to catch a few pheasants, which he handed over to the village chief. After breakfast, they bid farewell to the village chief and packed their belongings. Shi Yi took a moment to inquire about the whereabouts of his eldest brother, Shi Mo and younger brother, Shi Wu.

The village chief provided some information: “Shi Mo, well, a group of people claiming to be from the Bai family in the south offered a high price. If you head south and ask around, you might find some leads. As for Xiao Wu, he’s out in the west, fighting barbarians, making it hard for messengers to get through. You might consider writing a letter to and send it to the military camp.”

Shi Yi expressed his gratitude and felt a sense of urgency. He hoped Pei Xing might have information about the Bai family in the south.

They needed to locate Shi Mo quickly and then proceed west to find Shi Wu. The young boy, only fourteen years old, faced the harsh realities of the battlefield, and he was worried about his survival.

And there was still the matter of the original owner’s lost second brother; they wondered if fate would bring them together again.

The group initially took a carriage to a village ferry, then transferred to two boats, ultimately arriving in a small town. They changed to a larger boat and settled into their cabins. While Shi Yi and Wen Jun stayed on the boat, Pei Xing and his companions explored the town.

Pei Xing had informed Shi Yi that the big ship would take three days to reach their home, and there would be no meals provided on board, so they needed to prepare their own food.

.

With the boat still waiting for half an hour, Shi Yi took Shi Liu for a walk along the pier. Everything here was new and exciting to them. They marveled at the merchants trading on the pier, the lively calls of vendors, the wide variety of goods, and many novelties they had never seen before.

Shi Liu, who had never left the village since he could remember, and had spent most of his days working alongside his third brother, was experiencing such a bustling scene for the first time. The brothers were immersed in the lively atmosphere, and the vendors around them couldn’t help but admire their beauty.

In the entire village, it was a rare sight for shuanger to venture out like this. Some families were protective of their shuangers and didn’t allow them to leave their homes easily.

As they enjoyed their leisurely stroll, little did they know that danger was approaching. Shi Yi lamented the lack of money when, without warning, a middle-aged woman approached them. Before he could react, she slapped Shi Yi hard. The force of the slap sent Shi Yi to the ground. Before he could recover, a middle-aged man joined in, punching and kicking him with brutal force.

Shi Yi was shocked, his face stinging with pain. He was kicked twice before he managed to curl up and protect himself. Shi Liu was held by the woman, and he had already lost consciousness.

“You wretched bitch, you ran away with my granchild, this ungrateful brat from the Goulan Yard. We went to great lengths to redeem him, provide him with food and clothing, and he dared to run away. You are a white-eyed wolf. My son punished him severely, but he still dares to escape.” the peasant woman scolded before disappearing into the crowd.

This was a human trafficking!

Shi Yi reacted swiftly. He turned over, kicking the middle-aged man in the groin. He quickly got up, went to a nearby porcelain stall, and grabbed a large piece, using it to strike the man on the head. He struck two people in succession, causing the man’s vision to blur and a bloody gash to form on his head. In a bid to escape, he threw a bottle in the direction of the fleeing woman, causing the crowd to disperse.

With one shard of porcelain in his hand, Shi Yi took three quick steps toward the woman and cut her across the face. He then backhanded her arm. He swiftly grabbed Shi Liu and made a run for the big boat, shouting, “Someone is attempting to abduct this child; please report it to the authorities!”

As he ran, the owner of the porcelain stall chased after him, demanding payment for the damaged goods.

Shi Yi retorted, “Go report to the authorities, I won’t compensate you!”

The porcelain stall owner cursed and rushed to find help. He had intended to make a handsome profit selling the northern porcelain but didn’t anticipate getting caught up in such a situation. Meanwhile, the two assailants managed to get back on their feet but were prevented from leaving by the porcelain stall owner’s family.

Shi Yi was about to board the boat when someone pushed him from behind, causing him to fall directly into the river.
