Chapter 25
Upon seeing Shi Yi’s numerous injuries, Aunt Hong was shocked and rushed to call a doctor.
Pei Xing, Shi Liu, and Hong Luo followed closely as they entered the room. Pei Xing placed Shi Yi on the bed and instructed them to keep watch. He then went outside to fetch a basin of water and poured the red powder into it. The clear water turned a light pink, which he brought inside and used to clean Shi Yi’s wounds.
Shi Liu laid on the bed with tears streaming down his face, he kept calling his third brother. Hong Luo wiped away his tears and comforted him, “Master Pei is here, don’t worry. Everything will be fine. Don’t make noises.”
Hearing this, Shi Liu didn’t dare to make a sound and sobbed silently.
Pei Xing cleaned up Shi Yi’s wounds and changed him into clean clothes. The doctor arrived to check on Shi Yi and confirmed that there were no serious issues, bringing relief to everyone.
.
Meanwhile, Zhou Yan just done distributing the wild boars to each family, this time, they had hunted more than thirty wild boars. Several hunters received their share of the wild boars, while the remaining twenty or so wild boars were enough to provide meat for the other villagers. Every family benefited from the hunt, after all, Song Ning and Zhou Yan was a fair person.
The two returned to the forest to find Pei Ying was gone. Encountering Chu Nan and Zhouzhou, who had red eyes, he inquired about what had happened. They informed him about the accident.
Furious, Zhou Yan and Song Ning hurriedly over and found the person was still unconscious, “That family isn’t a good thing.” He said with a dark face.
When Aunt Hong found out, she was also angry and cursed, “The whole Liu family is full of blackhearted person. They had forced Father Song to hand over the spice recipe by claiming it was for the villagers’ livelihood, but I suspected they just wanted to pocket the money.”
Chu Nan also knew about this.
Five years ago, Father Song brought Pei Xing back from Xiangshan Temple. Pei Xing gave Father Song a spice recipe so the family could open up a workshop and make a living from it. The spice workshop indeed opened up but within the two months, the village chief came over with a group of clan members.
He didn’t know what really happen, but not long after, the village chief said that the spice workshop had become the property of villagers and asked each family to choose one person to work in there. In the end, it was the Liu family who were chosen.
“This matter can’t be let go like this. It was Xiao Ning who got hurt and now, there is Shi Yi. I don’t know what they would do later on.” Zhou Yan said with a cold face.
Father Song snorted coldly and knocked Zhou Yan’s head, “When can we stable enough to talk about it? We can only wait for you, the Juren, to come back to discuss it.”
He glanced at Pei Xing, who had been silently guarding the bed. He was probably very angry right now and the Liu family would meet their end soon.
Normally, he only knew that little girl from Liu family was gentle and calm like a water. But he didn’t know, that she actually dared to kill people with such vicious way.
The group of men returned home without further discussion.
Pei Xing’s wife had been injured, with this the situation in the village had escalated to a violent act, gossip from the villagers had lessened. A few hunters had attempted to explain the situation earlier but it didn’t bear much.
The village’s atmosphere had shifted, it was now more of a quiet whisper than an open discussion.
.
Shi Yi regained consciousness in the evening. As he opened his eyes, he recognized the familiar bed curtains. He shifted slightly, and was hugged by Pei Xing.
“Is there any discomfort?” His voice filled with gentleness and a deep sense of relief as if he had just escaped a calamity.
Shi Yi’s heart trembled, and he lowered his eyes, pursing his lips. But even this simple movement caused him pain due to the injury on his face. Even the air felt cold.
After reaching out and touching, he could feel his face was covered with gauze.
Pei Xing held him by the shoulders, concern etched in his features, and he carefully examined the extent of Shi Yi’s injuries.
Shi Yi blushed and lowered his head in embarrassment as he whispered, “It’s just a wound. I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
Pei Xing held him tightly, relieved to hear that he was okay. He kissed Shi Yi and buried his face in his neck, inhaling the sweet fragrance that was uniquely Shi Yi’s, finding solace in it. Pei Xing let out a deep sigh.
“Baby, you must promise to tell me if anything happens in the future. I’d go crazy if something happened to you.”
“I know I was wrong.” Shi Yi gripped his collar with delicate hands, his long eyelashes quivering slightly. He rested his forehead on Pei Xing’s shoulder and spoke softly, “There won’t be a next time.”
Pei Xing kissed his and said, “If you ever need red lotus fruits, just let me know. I’ll go up the mountain and bring back a whole tree for you. When you need them, we can pick them together.”
Shi Yi’s face turned bright red, and even his ears blushed. He pinched him shyly and said, “When would I ever need them?”
“No? then, why are you picking them?” Pei Xing playfully swatted his backside.
Shi Yi was so embarrassed that he could hardly speak. He felt quite foolish about picking red lotus fruits and blushed deeply at the thought.
Pei Xing sat him on his lap and looked at him. His face was flushed, and his snow-white skin had a faint pinkish glow. He pressed his delicate pink lips together tightly.
Suddenly a big hand pressed on Shi Yi’s head, Pei Xing lowered his head, and kissed him softly, causing him to blush even more. After a passionate moment, he let go and asked in a hoarse and slightly breathless voice, “Baby, tell me, why were you picking red lotus fruits?”
Shi Yi’s eyes were reddened, and his watery gaze was captivating. His lips moved slightly, revealing his tender tongue inside. He hummed softly, lying against Pei Xing’s chest, his voice muffled as he spoke, “Aren’t you bullying me? You gave me eight red lotus fruits, and Zhouzhou didn’t tell me anything about them, so I thought of picking a few to let him taste them.”
Pei Xing chuckled upon hearing her explanation. “Why are you so childish? You don’t need to do that for others. Those were a gift from me.”
Shi Yi felt dizzy, realizing how naive he had been. Hearing Pei Xing’s laughter, he couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed, and he responded, “It’s all your fault.”
Pei Xing insisted, “It’s all my fault, baby. Have you figured out how to punish me?”
Shi Yi sighed, a bit frustrated, and replied, “I haven’t thought of it yet.”
Pei Xing laughed softly and said he was waiting for Shi Yi’s punishment.
