I Took the Heroine’s First Time in a Romance Fantasy Novel

Chapter 12

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Johan opened his eyes to the sound of a tray being struck. The morning sunlight illuminated the tent.

‘Finally, the day has come.’

Today was the day to embark on the much-anticipated dungeon reconnaissance, and to pass through the first gate to be with Fransia.

And it was also a day when the Crown Prince was highly likely to make a move.

‘My preparations are perfect. Let’s go.’

Johan got up from the makeshift bed and stepped outside the tent.

Knights and soldiers were checking their weapons, while the cooks were preparing the food.

“Oh, you’re awake?”

As Johan stepped out of the tent and looked around, he heard a familiar male voice nearby.

“Deputy Head. Did you sleep well?”

It was Tersis Galectico, the Deputy Head of the Second Public Affairs Officer. He looked to be sweating from his early morning stretching.

“I’m always the same. It’s just another day for me. How about you, Johan? Did you sleep well?”

“I didn’t have a bad night either.”

Tersis chuckled heartily as if he liked the answer, patting Johan on the back with his large palm.

“Haha! You’ve got a solid heart, not at all like an archmage!”

“I tend not to get too nervous about things like this.”

Johan smiled awkwardly.

“Hmm.”

Seeing Johan’s expression harden and not loosen up, Tersis explained to reassure him.

“There’s no need for major worries. The south of the east is safer than it seems. It’s smaller than the other dungeons, and the monsters are weaker.”

Among the three dungeons in the eastern empire, the one in the south was known for being the simplest and weakest.

It’s so lacking in even a top-tier demon beast or even a first-class beast that as long as the team stays alert, they should return safely.

Tersis, who had given this explanation, grinned.

“That’s the end of my explanation. What do you think? It’s not so bad, right?”

“That’s certainly true. I can relax a bit more now.”

In reality, the reason Johan was tense wasn’t out of fear of the dungeon but due to uncertainty about what the Crown Prince might do.

“Thank you for your concern.”

Johan lightly smiled and nodded.

“Haha! Of course, I must help our new archmage. After all, archmages are rare to see.”

With that, Tersis turned on his heel and waved lightly.

“Then let’s meet again when we set off. Enjoy your breakfast.”

“Yes. Enjoy your meal too.”

As he left, Johan squinted his eyes.

‘The Deputy Head has a really good personality.’

He was the second son of Galectico, wasn’t he? A warm-hearted man, not at all fitting the stereotype of a noble.

‘But why don’t I remember you?’

He couldn’t help but wonder. While he didn’t remember the story in detail, he was confident he remembered most of the characters.

However, he had never heard of the name Tersis Galectico.

‘Someone like you shouldn’t just be an extra.’

Was it because the original story was a grim tale lacking hope that kind characters didn’t receive attention? Or maybe…

‘Forget it. There’s no point in pondering over Tersis right now.’

Johan’s thoughts didn’t linger long. It wasn’t important at the moment.

‘Let’s go have breakfast.’

It would be a busy day. He needed to fill his stomach.

*

By the time breakfast was finished and the knights and soldiers completed their preparations.

The public affairs officers from each division led the formation.

Among them were the First and Second Public Affairs Officers.

It was no different from Fransia’s unit.

“…May I ask your name?”

A man asked Fransia. She turned her head toward the voice and looked at him.

With black hair and drowsy purple eyes. A handsome man who looked hardly like a battlefield veteran.

Kasys Lenokhnen.

The firstborn of the House of Lenokhnen and the empire’s top swordsman. A true battlefield monster.

If she were an ordinary woman, she might have been mesmerized by his looks and swooned right away, but Fransia knew him all too well.

“I have no name to share with you.”

“……”

Despite her prickly attitude, Kasys’s expression didn’t budge.

“I am the Baron of the House of Lenokhnen, Kasys Lenokhnen. If you have no name to share, then just tell me yours.”

“……”

“I don’t know why you seem wary of me, but I assure you, I’m not a dangerous person.”

Fransia’s brow furrowed at his words.

‘Not dangerous, he says.’

She had to desperately hold back a laugh from escaping her lips.

“Oh, is that so? Understood.”

She replied casually and turned away. Just then, another man spoke to her.

“Princess Ferbache, where are you going? You should keep your position.”

It was Fedelian. Her entire face contorted.

“I am not Princess Ferbache; I am Archmage Ferbache. Please address me correctly.”

“You’re getting stiff again. Doesn’t it not matter among us?”

Fedelian tilted his head slightly and raised his eyebrows. A sigh escaped Fransia’s lips.

“By the way, Baron Lenokhnen. Or should I say battlefield monster Kasys? I didn’t expect you to be interested in Princess Ferbache. What’s going on?”

Kasys regarded Fedelian without changing his expression. His violet eyes shimmered.

“…It’s none of your concern.”

“Is that so? From my perspective, it looks like you fell for the Princess at first sight.”

“……”

“The Princess is indeed very beautiful. So beautiful that a battlefield monster shouldn’t lay a hand on her.”

Fedelian’s words were delivered with a joking tone, but there was a peculiar sting in his words.

“Is that so.”

Kasys simply brushed it off.

Caught in between their conversation, Fransia felt nausea and thought of Johan.

‘I miss Johan.’

That damn Crown Prince had organized the troops with ulterior motives, and Kasys Lenokhnen was interested in her as expected.

Unable to evade their gazes, she chose to make a frontal assault, but the stress from it was indescribable.

‘You can’t wield me as freely as you wish.’

Things were going to be very different this time.

Now she had Johan, who loved her.

Helping him wholeheartedly was her role. Fransia was confident that she could navigate through the challenges with Johan by her side.

*

Hours after the dungeon reconnaissance mission began.

Tersis, who had taken the lead at the front, frowned.

“This is strange.”

Feeling Johan’s heightened alertness, he asked.

“What do you mean?”

“There are too few monsters around.”

“Ah.”

Certainly. That was something Johan also thought was strange.

‘As we get closer to the dungeon, the numbers of the monsters are decreasing.’

An unusual sight.

Of course, it couldn’t be ruled out that the mana practitioners had led other groups away upon noticing the public affairs officers.

‘Or is this some scheme of the Crown Prince?’

He hadn’t seen the story to the end, but he had one thing firmly in mind.

That the male lead of this story was almost universally a lunatic.

If the Crown Prince, being the top among those lunatics, were to collude with the mana practitioners, it wouldn’t be unexpected.

‘If I only had evidence, I could drag the Crown Prince down right here.’

But that crafty bastard probably wouldn’t leave any traces behind.

“Everyone freeze!”

At that moment, Tersis raised his sword in one hand and shouted. They had reached the entrance of the dungeon.

“This is odd. We’ve reached the dungeon’s mouth, and there isn’t a single monster. This has never happened…”

Tersis, who usually showed only a hearty demeanor, narrowed his eyes and glanced around. He too seemed to feel a strange unease.

“Is the dungeon closed?”

“That shouldn’t happen.”

“Something seems off…”

The other knights and soldiers couldn’t hide their anxiousness either.

“Turn the entire army around! We’re retreating to the forward base!”

The moment Tersis said that.

Swish—!

A rock the size of a person’s head shot through Tersis’s abdomen.

“Gack…!”

Tersis fell off his horse, blood spraying as half of his abdomen was blown away.

Thud.

“What the…!”

“D-Deputy Head!”

The knights and public affairs officers fell into chaos. Johan was no different.

“What the hell…?”

Tersis’s insides were long gone. His abdomen had been blown away to such an extent that recovery was impossible.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

As he witnessed the death of another, his heart raced uncontrollably.

Blood rushed fiercely, and his mouth went dry. His hands trembled, and his breath quickened.

“Deputy Head!”

Johan shook his head and tried to maintain his composure while examining the fallen Tersis. His gaze was cloudy. He was on the brink of death.

“R-run…”

Swish—!

Before he could finish his sentence, the sound of slicing air echoed.

Boom—!

Another stone, about the size of a person’s head, slammed into the ground. Dust rose like a storm.

“Ugh, ugh!”

“It’s a top-tier!”

“A top-tier demon beast! Everyone, duck down!”

“Damn, this is insane!”

Upon hearing “top-tier,” Johan turned his head toward the direction the stone had come from.

A demon beast resembling a deer’s head and a human shape grinned at them.

About 3 meters tall. It didn’t seem to be a full-grown beast since it was smaller than what was known.

‘It’s a top-tier.’

Regardless, it was a top-tier monster. It had the potential to wipe out entire squads, making it one of the calamities the kingdom deeply feared.

It didn’t take much to infer why there was a top-tier monster in the smallest dungeon in the south.

‘Fedelian, you crazy bastard.’

Had he intended to kill even the comrades of the Second Public Affairs Officer? It brought back memories of his sociopathic nature.

Johan lowered his body and began to think.

‘Stay calm. Tersis’s situation can wait. Right now, I need to save these people.’

No idea how the top-tier monster had been led here, but one thing was certain: the mastermind of this incident was the Crown Prince.

Therefore, it was his responsibility to deal with it.

Johan stood up, yelling.

“Everyone, listen up! From now on, I have command! Turn all horses around and retreat!”

“Yes! Yes!”

“Turn the horses around!”

“Retreat!”

The soldiers and knights, having lost command with the sudden death of their deputy head, regained their wits and turned their horses around.

Swish—!

But the rocks didn’t stop coming. Johan raised his mana to its limit and whispered silently.

“Ra Entus, Telekinesis.”

Woosh!

The mana condensed in his hands spun violently in a spiral. The rock flying through the air suddenly halted.

Telekinesis.

“I’ll deal with it! Focus on retreating!”

The moment Johan yelled that.

Thud thud thud──!

The ground began to tremble. Sensing something was off, Johan looked back.

Thousands of demon beasts were charging toward them all at once.

“W-what the hell.”

“We’re all going to die…”

“I was planning to propose once this mission was over…!”

Johan bit down on his lip.

‘Were they planning to wipe out the southern troops?’

He hadn’t anticipated that a single squad would be wiped out just to deal with him.

He knew there would be some scheme, but he hadn’t expected it to grow to such a scale.

Johan stared at the top-tier demon beast in front of him. It looked at him with a mocking grin, as if it were laughing at humanity.

“Looks like it was born just yesterday, and it’s already acting this way.”

Snap. Johan snapped his fingers and, turning to the back, summoned two orbs into the air.

“Everyone, spread out! I’ll clear a path!”

The soldiers and knights were in complete chaos, but they were veterans who had undergone extensive training. Even in disarray, they listened to Johan’s command.

“Spread out!”

“Spread out!”

Like the miracle of Moses, the soldiers parted widely. With his hand outstretched, Johan fixed their direction and with wide eyes began to chant.

“Archmage Magic.”

A sphere of absorption, rotating repeatedly in a spiral from a single center.

And a sphere of release, emitting intense waves of energy into the surrounding space.

The two entities spun in a synchronized manner, perfectly interlocking like a gear.

Whooooosh!!

The absorption sphere spun continuously, sucking mana from the air.

Receiving mana, the release sphere unleashed tremendous energy, generating gusts of wind.

They rotated and absorbed and released repeatedly.

“Spiral Break.”

Boom—!

The gigantic spiral of the release sphere rushed forward, cleaving through space.

The absorption sphere expanded the center of the spiral.

Charging forward at high speed, it reaped through the demon beasts blocking the way and surged forth.

The power seemed like it could tear the sky apart.

“Kyah!”

“Ugh…!”

The cycle of mana release and absorption unfolded.

The ground where the Spiral Break had passed looked as if a giant worm had crawled through it.

The demon beasts that had blocked their escape were scattered without a trace by the maelstrom of mana.

“Hah, hah…!”

Johan gasped for air at the sudden massive consumption of mana. He clutched his abdomen and shouted.

“Phew, the path is clear…! Everyone retreat!”

No one had the time to be amazed by the power of the archmage magic Johan had unleashed.

“Retreat now!”

“Maintain formation!”

“The archmage has cleared a path!”

As every knight and soldier processed the remaining demon beast remnants while making a quick escape, one of the Second Public Affairs Officer’s colleagues reached out with trembling eyes.

“Harsen Archmage! Please get on!”

“I’m fine.”

“W-what are you talking about—”

Johan walked forward, raising his mana.

“I will hold off the top-tier beast.”
