Successful rescue
Melanie hides in my shadow while Lyn is currently fighting the boss. Judging from the situation, they are currently at a stalemate. Lyn is weaker but she is not one to admit defeat in any situation. In the game, this boss fight is scripted. For the male protagonist, you could only bring one companion due to the high number of enemies. Your allies would be too busy with the mobs to help since you are in a hurry. In the case of the female protagonist, she would always fight solo. On the time of rescue, she rushes the boss by herself and leaving any potential companion behind.
“Argh!”
Both clash blades. Lyn uses her fire magic but the boss counters her using water magic. Lyn seems more determined than usual. Might be due to her wishing revenge for being knocked out by the man.
“Why won’t you go down!?”
The boss unleashes a massive water attack but Lyn evades it. For the male protagonist, whether you win or lose, the other companions would arrive and the boss would be swiftly defeated. Then, the female protagonist would also appear leaving a trail of burning rooms in her wake. For the female protagonist, her weapon would break. After it breaks, she overloads the reminder of her weapon and uses up all her magic to make explosions. The explosions destroy all the other rooms and damages both her and the boss knocking both out. Afterwards, the male protagonist would arrive with backup and she would be rescued.
“Tch, you’re annoying!”
That is the reason that I gave her my weapon for this fight. I needed her to last longer after all. It did take quite some time to take everything from that office. In the game, the prisoners did not try to break free on their own. So, I made sure that they would so that they would act as a distraction. But I have no cause to hurry anymore. I have achieved my goal here. I have gotten some proof of transactions and I now know who is the accomplice with the highest position. So, I shall enjoy their fight for now. Their surveillance would be weaker once they believe that everything is now fine.
“Fuck off!”
But they seem to be on a standstill. I cannot join their fight nor can I ask Melanie to intervene. Looking around, there was nothing I could use and there was no one else around but the noise suggest that they are still fighting somewhere so we still have some time. Then, what I could do is simple.
“You’re still not done?”
I raise my voice and attract their attention. I made sure that my words were vague enough to make them believe that I am talking to both of them and not both of them at the same time. In their own way, they both believe that I am on their side.
“Shut up! Just wait there, you bastard! I’ll take care of you after this!”
Lyn responded in anger. Whether it is in accordance to our agreement or her personal feelings is something I cannot know. I presume it would be a mix of both knowing her.
“Tsk.”
Lyn jumps back to create distance. She breathes in and I could feel a change occur with her. It was very subtle and I do not even understand how but something feels slightly different.
“Let’s go!”
Lyn creates a burst of flame behind her as she propels herself to the boss. The boss looks unprepared and tries to block her attack. Lyn leaves a trail of fire with each of her swing, the boss tries to parry but is always overpowered. The speed of her attacks prevents the boss from using any large water magic. After a few exchanges, Lyn hurls the boss away with an attack creating some distance. The boss takes advantage and launches water shots towards her. She spins and jumps towards the boss creating something like a fire bullet as she deflects all the attacks.
“Got you!”
As Lyn arrives near the boss, he hits her with a water geyser from the ground. The sudden burst of water launches Lyn high in the air. The boss then creates multiple clumps of water and prepares to use them like water bullets.
“Die!”
As the boss launches the water bullets, Lyn creates a burst and launches herself even higher. During the top of her ascent, she moves her body. It was an unusual sort of movement. If I had to choose, it would be like a dance. She sways and spins in the air, creating a trail of flame. The flame condenses and forms something like a dragon.
“What?”
The boss looks confused as Lyn starts her descent with a flame creature beside her. As the water bullets approach, I could see Lyn exhale her breath. She creates the same movements during her descent, slowly manipulating the water bullets launched by the boss. Seriously?
“What the fuck!?”
The boss panics as Lyn creates something like a dragon out of the water in midair. The boss tries to create another water geyser to counter her descent but Lyn cuts it in half with ease. On her descent, Lyn slashes the boss and as she lands, both dragons crash onto him.
“Hahhh.”
Lyn inhales and exhales for a few more times as she relaxes. She looks at me and approaches me.
“Are you satisfied?”
“Yes. You have done well.”
“Whatever. Come on, let’s get going.”
“No.”
“Huh?”
“You go on ahead. Make sure to not tell anyone of my involvement in all of this. Do not forget, you agreed to cooperate.”
“What? Why should I?”
“Because.”
I threw a few shards of glass towards her. She closed and blocked her eyes in an instant.
“I was never here.”
I order Melanie to take me away as I seemingly disappear in front of her eyes. We did not get that far since there is a limit to Melanie’s powers but Lyn does not search for us and goes her own way leaving a message.
“I still don’t get her.”
