The day’s pass as the exam continues. Of course, I have nothing to do as I refuse to participate. The exam lasts for four days. Then, we will have one day for last announcements and the last day for class as we will be on summer break for the month. I may call it summer break but this world has no concept of seasons. So, it is just called a break.
“I see. That is unfortunate.”
I am currently sitting inside Emilia’s office. She is currently speaking with someone through her crystal.
“I understand. Do not worry. I can handle it for you. Focus on getting better.”
The conversation ends as Emilia sits down and seems to move about her documents.
“What has occurred?”
“Just a minor incident, mistress. Nothing important.”
“Do I need to ask again?”
Emilia shows a weary smile.
“One of the teachers called in sick. So, I will be issuing the exam on their behalf for the day.”
“And why must you do this? You are the principal. Do you not have more important duties to take care of?”
“I make sure to not have any ongoing work during the examination period. Just in case incidents like this happen. Believe it or not. Exams are our busiest period. Since the students are on break, I give the teachers a break as well. So, most of them make sure to grade the exams on the same day. I could ask one of them to take over but I have free time so I will do it myself.”
“I see. You really do seem dedicated to your work.”
“You flatter me, mistress.”
“However, am I not more important? Surely you will not leave me here when I have demanded your companionship.”
“Ah. That is true. Hmm, what should I do?”
I smile. I should not tease her any longer. She might do something drastic.
“Well, do not worry. I will accompany you.”
“Pardon?”
“Did you not hear? I will join you in administering the examination.”
“Huh? Are you sure, mistress? I should not be saying this but you might find yourself quite bored.”
“Do I need to repeat myself?”
“I understand. I will be glad for your accompaniment in the examination.”
“Good. I will even let you choose how you address me.”
“I understand, mistress.”
I wait for Emilia to get ready. Apparently, the teacher had only two classes today so it is light work. Of course, fate would play its hand here. We first enter a commoner classroom. Everyone instantly turned silent as I enter. This seems to be Lyn and Juliet’s class. They both look in confusion as I sit on the teacher’s seat and Emilia explains the situation.
“Principal!”
Once Emilia finishes her explanation. Juliet speaks out.
“What is it, student Juliet?”
“Uh, just wanna know why Miss Athena is here?”
I continue to relax as I let Emilia explain.
“The details are complicated but just think of mistress as a guest proctor for the exams.”
“Mistress?”
Juliet asks.
“Yes. Emilia works for this school that is owned by my family. So, she is under me. Why? Is there a problem?”
I interject before Emilia speaks but for some reason Juliet’s eyes sparkle.
“That’s so cool! So, you can just skip the exams!?”
I do not answer her question. Emilia continues to administer the exam as the classroom continues to be silent. The only one who spoke was Juliet after all. It probably is due to our familiarity and just her own happy go lucky attitude.
“Mistress, are you okay?”
Emilia whispers to me. I nod to her as an answer as she continues to watch over the students. I look around but no other students are interesting so I spend all the time staring at Juliet and Lyn. Juliet is blissfully unaware that I am staring at her as I watch her expression change now and then. Very cute.
“…”
Lyn however does not have the same ability. She is very aware of my gaze as she looks back every now and then. Of course, I make sure to do so as it is quite fun to watch her be uncomfortable under my gaze. Alas, all good things must come to an end. Emilia collects all of their exams and we leave the room. I see Juliet talking with Lyn happily while Lyn sighs. Probably relieved since I will be leaving. I shall let her have this. Since things might happen soon.
“Were you not bored, mistress?”
“Worry not, Emilia.”
“I understand. The next class we will have to go to is yours, mistress.”
Fate is truly having fun today. First it was the female protagonist and now it is the male protagonist. It had been three days since our conversation. I wonder what has happened since then?
“Excuse me.”
Emilia and I enter the classroom. In a predictable fashion, everyone turns silent to my entrance. Most of them were probably relieved from my absence. Heh. How unfortunate that I will be watching all of you today.
“Principal.”
After Emilia’s explanation, the prince calls out to her.
“What can I help you with, prince?”
“I would like to know what Athena is doing.”
“Due to certain circumstances, mistress will be your guest proctor alongside me today.”
Everyone’s face turned to shock. Even Sylvia, Melanie, and Blanche did not expect this. The prince recovered fast and asked another question.
“She is not taking the exam?”
“No.”
I intercept Emilia’s reply and I answer his question. He quiets down as I stare at him just like three days ago. He turns silent as the exam moves as usual. Of course, nothing exciting happens. It is the exam day after all. All I achieved today is showing that I control even the higher ups in this school.
“Let us go.”
As the exam ends, Emilia dismisses the class. Sylvia, Melanie, and Blanche quickly follow me as I proceed to leave. In the corner of my eye, I could see five rats scurrying up to the prince. I smile as we all leave the classroom.
“It was an interesting experience, Emilia. You have done well.”
“Thank you, mistress.”
We separate from Emilia and proceed back to our dorm.
