NOVEL NEXT Farewell’s and Goodbye’s
It is now officially the stat of our break or what people from the other world will call it, summer break. I have been called by father and must return. Whatever task he has for me will not be pretty and I have already prepared myself. Sylvia, Melanie, and Blanche were all fixing up their rooms while I am waiting in the lounge for all of them to be finished. It would be my first time going home after a few months. I admit that I have been enjoying my time out of that oppressive place but I must never forget that I belong there. I must meet with father and that thing. I wonder if that thing has done anything useful?
“Mistress, I have finished.
“Ugh, I’m so tired.”
“That is because you chose to hold off on packing your items until the last day. Logically speaking, packing your items a little bit every day would make for an easier and more efficient solution.”
“But I didn’t feel like it.”
The noise invades my silent melancholy as the three of them arrive.
“Are you all done?”
“Yes, mistress. I apologize if it took longer than you expected. Melanie forced us to help with her items.”
“I had already finished packing a few days ago. Melanie forced me to help with her items as well.”
“Well, sorry! I have a lot of items, okay!? I bought a lot of souvenirs and books!”
“The situation was bad. Melanie did not have enough bags so she asked for some of mine. I expect you to return all of them in pristine condition.”
“Uh, if it gets damaged, can I just give you an item of equal value in exchange?”
Melanie asks Blanche nervously. Blanche stares at Melanie with her usual deadpan face. It did not take long until Melanie was the one to evade her gaze.
“I will make sure to return it properly.”
“Good. You should not borrow something and expect to not be able to return it in the beginning. If an accident were to happen and you were to tell me about it, I would be more understanding. But now that you have directly mentioned the possibility, I expect you to return it properly.”
“Oh no!”
Ah, how I will miss this scene.
“What do you all plan to do during the break?”
“Father usually travels to different places around this time. So, I will join him! We usually just go and find people who are interested in working with us but if I find anything nice, I’ll bring it over! So, expect souvenirs! What type of souvenirs do you guys want?”
“I have no particular interest. What I need is for you to return safe and sound, I still have use for you after all.”
“I am interested in artifacts and rare items. If you do find some, do not feel the need to give it to me. I only want to see and observe it for a short amount of time.”
“What about you, Sylvia?”
Sylvia glances at me as she thinks of an answer.
“Some recipes of different places would be my request.”
“Got it! Myself, artifacts, and recipes. Do I need to wrap myself up for you, miss Athena?”
“Are you suggesting something, Melanie?”
“It was just a joke! Just a joke.”
“I see. Then, it would be funny if you were to wrap yourself up for me. Just for a joke, of course.”
“Ha… ha… ha…”
What a cute nervous laugh. I do wonder how serious she was? Only time will tell.
“What about you, Blanche? What are your plans?”
“I shall be returning to our territory. I have something important to discuss with my parents.”
“Something important? Share it!”
“I intend to inform them of my current situation and my status in our dynamic. In essence, I shall ask for permission to be miss Athena’s concubine.”
“Woah. You’re already asking for permission.”
“It has always been the case that the Frost family move swift if they desire something. We prefer being upfront and honest.”
It might be more understandable if she were to use cold and straight to the point for most of the Frost family members. In this country, for bettor or for worse, a Frost never lies. They do not operate in falsehoods.
“Then, this means we will all be pursuing our own paths as we intend on returning home.”
“Miss Athena, is something bothering you?”
“Why would you ask, Blanche?”
“I do not know. I just felt the need to ask.”
“It is just a boring place. I do not feel all too excited to return to it. That is all.”
“I understand.”
Blanche’s face shows a very slight crease to her eyebrow. She knows that I am not being truthful but chooses to not pursue. A good choice as I do not wish to drag her into whatever is going to happen.
“Now then, we shall reconvene when the break ends.”
Blanche was the first one to leave. Her carriage arriving exactly when she said it would. Next was Melanie, she had two carriages. One for herself and the other for everything she wanted to bring. Our carriage would arrive a little later so I decided to go for a little stroll.
“Miss Athena!”
A ball of energy runs up to me.
“What are you doing?”
“Our carriage still has some time to arrive. I am just taking a little stroll.”
“I see! Have fun with whatever you are going to do!”
“What do you plan to do during the break?”
“Nothing really. I live here so the current plan is to do whatever.”
“What about her?”
“Oh. Uh, I don’t know yet. She’s been in her room ever since you kissed her.”
“She has? How cute.”
“Actually, I have a favor to ask.”
“What is it, Juliet?”
“Can you kiss me too?”
I swiftly hug Juliet and kiss her for a moment. I release her and put my hand on her head.
“Is that enough?”
“Hehe, thanks Miss Athena! Have a good break!”
Juliet ran off after that. Nothing significant occurred and we were finally going to return home.
