Chapter 42: The Green Goblin’s Desperate Struggle

Although he was ambushed, Harry believed that as long as he was cautious, with his pumpkin bombs and bee-like pumpkin blades, taking down the Mafia below was only a matter of time.

Once the heavy weapons were dealt with, he could even engage in hand-to-hand combat if necessary, so it wasn't a big problem.

Of course, what he didn't know was that this ambush was part of a larger conspiracy. The Mafia wasn't the only faction involved; lurking in the darkness was a deadly threat.

The Mafia members were merely pawns, bait. The real killing blow was hidden in the shadows, silently closing in on Harry's position.

Ninjas—stealthy spies and assassins who operate from the shadows.

In the world of American comics, ninjas might not perform hand seals to breathe fire or summon water dragons, but they possess unimaginable power. They are synonymous with mystery and strength—even Batman trained under a ninja master before becoming famous.

The Japanese Yakuza leader Nobu Yoshioka, who worked with Kingpin, was a seasoned ninja who had practiced ninjutsu for decades. By ninja standards, he was at least on the level of a Jōnin.

Shadow clones, Rasengan, Chidori, Flying Thunder God, summoning techniques, Sharingan… Nobu Yoshioka couldn't do any of that.

But that didn't stop him from becoming a master assassin. With his weapon, the kusarigama—a chain weapon with a spiked metal ball on one end and a hooked blade on the other, sharp enough to cut through leather like butter—he had claimed the lives of many New York gangsters.

Among his victims were many renowned figures, akin to high-ranking enforcers in triad hierarchies.

At this moment, Nobu Yoshioka, clad in dark ninja attire, was stealthily approaching Harry from behind, carrying his kusarigama.

Yoshioka was patient. After locating Harry, he didn't rush to attack. Instead, he quietly moved in, aiming to ensure success with a single, decisive strike.

His decision was sound, and his timing impeccable. He struck at the moment when Harry was most vulnerable.

However, he had underestimated the durability of Harry's flight suit.

Though the suit was unsightly, its defense was top-notch, impervious even to bullets. When Yoshioka's kusarigama hooked onto Harry's throat, it merely sparked against the suit, failing to cut through or decapitate him.

Even so, it scared Harry half to death. Just when he thought he was safe, the attack from behind nearly killed him.

"The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind"—Harry finally understood this ancient Chinese proverb. Thankfully, his highly defensive flight suit saved him; otherwise, he would already be a dead man.

Relieved, Harry immediately grabbed the kusarigama's chain and yanked it toward himself with all his might.

With his strength enhanced by performance enhancers, Yoshioka could barely hold onto the chain, nearly losing his grip.

But Yoshioka remained calm. As the chain was pulled away, he redirected his energy, swinging the spiked ball on the other end fiercely toward Harry's visor.

The flight suit excelled at resisting cuts, but it might not withstand heavy impacts. Even if the visor didn't break, the blow could daze Harry. Taking advantage of this, Yoshioka charged in for close combat.

The kusarigama was only for ranged attacks. On his back, Yoshioka carried a katana, sharp enough to cut through dozens of tiles or metal chainmail—practically legendary in its deadliness.

Bang!

The spiked ball hit Harry's arm instead of his head, failing to stun him. But Yoshioka had already closed in, his katana gleaming as he swung.

Swish!

The slash didn't cut through Harry's flight suit, but it staggered him. Yoshioka pressed the advantage, launching a flurry of relentless attacks.

Harry's physical condition was undoubtedly strong, but his lack of combat skills left him vulnerable. Yoshioka's combo forced him backward, closer to the rooftop's edge.

If he fell, the Mafia members below would swarm him like sharks smelling blood, leaving Harry with no chance of escape.

Without his glider, the Green Goblin's combat effectiveness was reduced by more than half. He could only rely on the suit's defense and his brute strength to clumsily fend off Yoshioka's assault.

"No, this can't go on. If I keep this up, I'm dead. I need to find a way to escape!"

Harry finally considered fleeing. He still had some pumpkin bombs and pumpkin blades, initially meant for taking out the gangsters below. Now, he'd have to use them on Yoshioka and make his escape.

Dodging attacks, Harry threw a few pumpkin bombs. Yoshioka quickly retreated, knowing from prior research that the bombs were powerful. They couldn't be deflected or slashed, only avoided.

But as Yoshioka retreated, the pumpkin bombs suddenly sprouted curved blades like wings and buzzed toward him.

Flying, maneuverable, and explosive on impact, the pumpkin blades were enough to keep Yoshioka busy. Taking advantage of this, Harry bolted to the other end of the factory and prepared to jump. As long as he could land in the dense forest, his stamina would see him to safety.

Thunk!

Just as Harry was about to leap, a throwing knife flew from a distance, embedding itself in the concrete inches from his toes. The blade sank several centimeters, and the hilt vibrated with a sharp hum.

At the same time, several shadows flashed by, striking the pumpkin blades out of the air. They exploded in the distance, lighting up the night sky with bursts of fire.

By the light of the explosion, Harry saw another figure who had appeared nearby. The man wasn't tall but was solidly built, bald, and moved with a twitchy, erratic energy. Most striking was the bullseye-like brand in the center of his forehead.

At that moment, the man was twirling a throwing knife in his hand, smirking arrogantly as he stared at Harry.

"The Green Armored Hero, huh? I've never killed a superhero before. You'll be my first, but definitely not my last!"

At that moment, the Green Armored Hero was truly at the end of his rope.
