Chapter 6:
Chapter 6: No Reply, Jiang Xueer Is Anxious:
Jiang Xueer sat reading a book, flipping through the pages without interest.
She frowned, feeling restless.
“Ugh!—” She grabbed a pillow and punched it twice to release her frustration.
“Why can’t you focus? Why do you keep thinking about that jerk? Jiang Xueer, he was wrong—you should hate him!” she told herself firmly.
Despite this, she soon found herself reaching for her phone and opening the chat with Lin Li.
No messages.
It was almost evening now, and yet, the apology that her best friend Mi Ke said would come had not happened.
“How can this be?” she muttered, her lips pursed, feeling a little hurt.
After thinking for a while, she couldn’t resist sending Mi Ke a message.
[Jiang Xueer: Coco, did I do something wrong?]
As soon as she set down her phone, it dinged. She quickly checked and saw that Mi Ke had responded instantly.
Jiang Xueer felt a bit disappointed—it wasn’t Lin Li. Her lips tightened, turning pale.
[Mi Ke: Huh? What did you do? Why do you think you did something wrong?]
[Jiang Xueer: It’s about Lin Li. I was wondering, was I too harsh when I rejected him in front of the whole school today? Was I disrespectful?]
[Mi Ke: Girl, don’t you like him? If you don’t, then saying no is the right thing to do!]
[Jiang Xueer: Yeah, I don’t like him. But Lin Li has been really kind to me. I still want us to be friends.]
She bit her lip before sending the message.
Before, whenever Jiang Xueer was upset, Lin Li would always know immediately and take her out to cheer her up. She would quickly feel better. But this time, she had been upset for so long, and no one was there to comfort her like Lin Li used to.
It wasn’t just when she was unhappy.
Whenever she was bored or troubled, Lin Li was always the first to show up.
But now… he had walked away so decisively, striding off as if he’d made up his mind to cut ties with her. He didn’t even glance at her. It scared Jiang Xueer—she feared that they might not even stay friends.
“Lin Li, you jerk! When you confessed, you said you’d love me forever! How can you be so heartless now… liar!”
Jiang Xueer felt deeply wronged.
Her phone dinged again—Mi Ke had replied.
[Mi Ke: Oh no, I think Lin Li is playing mind games with you!]
[Jiang Xueer: Mind games?]
[Mi Ke: Xue’er, Li Fugui told me that when Lin Li left this morning, he ran off in a hurry.]
[Jiang Xueer: Huh? Doesn’t that just show he doesn’t care about me?]
[Mi Ke: Silly! Haven’t you heard? Those who really want to leave do so quietly. Only those who don’t want to leave make a scene to get your attention.]
[Jiang Xueer: Really?]
[Mi Ke: We’ve been best friends for years—don’t you trust me? Lin Li is just trying to make you mad and force you to give in.]
[Mi Ke: Xueer, don’t overthink it. The more you do, the deeper you’ll fall into his trap!]
[Mi Ke: Show him you’re happy. Make him anxious!]
[Mi Ke: Lin Li will definitely regret it and come back to you!]
Jiang Xueer read through Mi Ke’s messages and thought for a while. It made sense. Lin Li had liked her for so long. It was unlikely that he would suddenly stop caring about her. Maybe, as Mi Ke said, Lin Li was just playing games with her.
“Lin Li, you’ve really gone too far.” Jiang Xueer muttered, clenching her fists.
Suddenly, she heard a loud voice outside the window.
“Dad, Mom, I’ve been away for a long time! Why are you locking me out and making me homeless? I’m going to cause a scene!”
It was Lin Li’s voice.
Jiang Xueer’s heart raced. Their houses were just one street apart, so they were always close. Every morning, Lin Li would bring her breakfast and wait outside her house. She had gotten used to seeing him standing there whenever she opened her window.
Even though they had only met in high school, they were like childhood sweethearts in some ways.
But now… Jiang Xueer was torn between wanting to see him and remembering Mi Ke’s advice. She was still angry. After hesitating, she finally gave in, went to the window, and peeked out.
But just as she looked, Lin Li was walking back into his house.
“Missed him…” Jiang Xueer sighed in disappointment.
After thinking for a moment, she opened her social media and followed Mi Ke’s advice. She selected a picture from an amusement park and posted it with a cheerful caption.
[Jiang Xueer: I’m so happy today~]
She set down her phone, a satisfied smile appearing on her lips. “Take that! Let’s see who’s sad now!”
She lay in bed, waiting.
Half an hour passed. Her phone kept buzzing with notifications, but none were from Lin Li. He didn’t even like her post.
“Maybe he hasn’t seen it yet,” she told herself, scrolling through her feed. But suddenly, she noticed something that stunned her. Lin Li had liked posts from several classmates—yet not hers.
Jiang Xueer froze, feeling a sinking sensation in her chest.
At this moment, her phone dinged again. Lin Li had updated his status.
[Lin Li: Heroes of the world, I need help! A lady warrior is trying to drain me dry. I need money to save myself—send gold coins now!]
Comments quickly followed.
[Li Fugui: What?! Brother Li, when did you secretly get a lady warrior? Why didn’t I know?]
[Lin Li: She dropped from the sky! No time for details, just send gold coins—emergency!]
“Lady warrior…” Jiang Xueer’s nose stung, and a wave of sadness overwhelmed her.
