I Became A Squirrel Seeking For The Villain

Chapter 19

Sienna was thinking of her lost second daughter while caressing Yurika’s baby hair.

At the Duke of Medes, something similar to a curse would occasionally happen.

When they have more than one child, sometimes one of them disappears.

Occasionally, children would disappear even from Medes’ blood relatives.

It is difficult to call it a simple kidnapping or abduction, as the children who disappeared that way were literally missing.

They never reappeared, and there was no group demanding money.

“It is because Medes’ ancestors incurred the wrath of God.”

In the temple, they always said that to the Duke of Medes.

“If you do a lot of charity or donate, you may be forgiven someday.”

Sienna had no idea that the curse would manifest itself in her own generation.

She was only able to raise her second daughter, Yurika, for a little over a year.

Sienna was anxious for some reason, so she raised Yurika without letting her go outside, but on the way to be baptized, Yurika was kidnapped.

“Yurika…”

Sienna could feel her health deteriorating rapidly lately.

She had heard from those around her that her mind had also become erratic at times.

Although she was pretending to be cheerful in front of Mariel, she somehow didn’t think she would be able to live long.

She was not so afraid of death when she thought about going to her husband’s side, who had been declared missing, but she wanted to see her second daughter just once.

Sienna wonders if her daughter is alive and well, and if she was alive, how she was growing up.

That was when.

 —Tok Tok

A knock sound was heard from the window. For a moment, goosebumps appeared.

“I’m on the fourth floor…”

Sienna muttered, swallowing dry saliva.

“Is God already going to take me…?”

She took a deep breath and looked up at the window with a determined expression.

Her eyes widened as she checked outside the window.

“A squirrel?”

A squirrel with a tiny ribbon around its neck knocked on the window again with a bright face.

Sienna smiled at the cute gesture and slowly got up and opened the window.

“I heard that Mariel has been raising a squirrel these days. That must be you.”

The squirrel scurried in and jumped on Sienna’s shoulder.

Sienna stumbled back into bed, and the squirrel tilted its head next to her, resting its paw on her forehead.

Mariel didn’t tell her mother that the squirrel she was raising was a divine beast because she was afraid that the Duke of Hyrad might find out.

Since the divine beast was very expensive, she thought that the Duke of Hyrad might come looking for it somehow.

Mariel doesn’t know how the squirrel erased the seal, but somehow, Mariel was determined never to send that squirrel back to Hyrad.

And these days, she had no intention of telling the truth to Sienna, who was slightly out of her mind.

If Sienna made a mistake and the squirrel’s identity was revealed to someone, Mariel had to return it.

So she had no idea that the squirrel that came to visit her was a divine beast.

“After visiting the Duke of Hyrad’s mansion, Mariel sang the squirrel song.…she ended up letting you in.”

The squirrel just stared at her with its bright eyes.

And then it pointed to Yurika’s hair on her bed.

“Kyung?”

“What is this?”

Sienna tapped the squirrel’s head and answered.

“It’s our missing Yurika’s hair.…This is the only trace left of her.”

“Kyung.”

“She was a pretty child with light brown hair and warm pink eyes. She was really bright and cheerful.”

“Kyuung.”

“She looks a lot like the Duke. I wonder if I can see her once before I die…”

“Kyuung.”

The squirrel leaned on her arm as if comforting her.

Sienna suddenly felt comforted by the small beating of its heart against her chest.

It was a small movement that reminded her of Yurika’s heartbeat, so long ago, so faint now.

The body temperature of the squirrel that was squirming was warm, so it felt comfortable.

“I don’t know what I’m talking about with you, really. I’m sorry.”

The squirrel stared at her, then spun around, exposing its belly.

“Huh?”

The squirrel led her finger to its belly.

“Touch?”

“Kyung.”

The squirrel nodded with a solemn expression, and Sienna smiled briefly and stroked the squirrel’s plump, white belly.

She chuckled softly, feeling much better indeed.

‘It was both funny and gratifying to see the little squirrel so eager to take the initiative to do something.’

“When Mariel is busy, will you come see me sometimes?”

The presence of the squirrel rolling around on the bed was secretly comforting, so Sienna whispered a request.

“I will fill this room with sunflower seeds and acorns.”

The squirrel nodded its head vigorously as if it agreed.

Life at the Duke of Medes was truly the best.

I absorbed Mariel’s organized magic every day.

Mariel had as much magic as Yohan, but she didn’t show it, and she didn’t even know it.

‘This is really amazing. Is this a female lead buff?’

In the original story, there was no mention of Mariel being a wizard.

Since there was only a description that said, ‘She’s pretty and kind, but somewhat incompetent and weak, so she’s easily swayed by those around her,’

It was certain that she had no magical power.

Unlike the Duke of Hyrad, the Duke of Medes was not a family that had been skilled in magic for generations.

I heard that Duke Medes, who is now missing on the battlefield, was also a warrior skilled in throwing spears.

Well, that’s none of my business anyway.

‘It’s even sweeter than when I absorbed Yohan’s magic power.’

If things really went on like this, it seemed like I would soon be able to become human.

I tried going to Siena as a test, but I felt no magic from her at all.

‘I just went there out of curiosity. But I had to attend every day.’

After that one visit, I went to her room every day.

She was staying in bed, which is why she was so happy to see me.

So whenever I was bored, I would go see her, be pampered, and eat acorns to my heart’s content.

I felt sorry for Sienna who was looking pale, so I showed her my belly.

When I lay down, she slowly stroked my stomach with her weak fingers.

Every time I saw a smile on Sienna’s face, no matter how prickly I was, my heart warmed.

‘Somehow…she was the kind of person I strangely wanted to protect.’

‘I’ll be humanized soon, so I’ll play hard until then.’

I did my best to open my belly like that.

‘Yohan really enjoyed touching my belly.’

And while I was doing that, I thought about how Yohan really enjoyed touching my belly.

Honestly, in my opinion, Yohan didn’t seem like he would grow up to be a villain.

In fact, rather than being a villain, he was a lonely and whiny kid. I wonder if he’s doing well.

‘Even if it’s hard, just hold on for a little longer, Yohan. There’s not much time left now.’

I rubbed my eyes with my forelegs as I recalled the original story.

‘Soon he will be able to leave the Hyrad’s house and go to the battlefield.’

* * *

Yohan was having more boring days than ever. Each day felt too long.

He wonders where the squirrel is and how it is doing.

Because the squirrel had calmed down his magical power to the fullest, the pain was much less than before.

Nevertheless, Yohan’s time passed much more slowly than before.

Especially at night, even though there were no squirrels to visit, he got into the habit of waiting for it at the window.

“Momo…”

As the squirrel warned, the next day, warm soup was added to John’s meal.

It was really strange compared to before when they never gave him warm food.

If the squirrel hadn’t said anything, he would have eaten it without any doubt.

So far, Ella hasn’t tried to poison him at least.

‘I was wrong. That woman just needed a doll-like Hiyrad.’

If Duke Hyrad were to die on the battlefield, one Hyrad would have to go to the battlefield to take his place.

Mariel Medes, who was famous for her bewitching beauty since childhood, was a very special case.

‘Well, she’s not that pretty. She even looks a bit blind.’

Anyway, Ella was always thinking of hurting him.

She was able to obtain a potion from the temple that would make Yohan live without a soul, so she put it into practice right away.

‘If it weren’t for Momo, I would have already reached a point where I couldn’t even think.’

The next day, his meal included another warm meat stew.

Yohan spent the night glancing out the window, eating only cold food and coarse, cold rye bread that the servant brought him secretly.

Yohan knew it, but no matter how much he looked out the window, there was no trace of the squirrel that used to come and knock on the window every night.

“I miss you…”

So, when one day the news of Duke Hyrad’s death was heard and his enlistment was decided, Yohan was not at all sad.
