Chapter 18
“It doesn’t look like any more transplants are a good idea. We don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Rivena said firmly.
“I would rather research calming potions in the future. If I succeed in developing them, I would rather do a lot of research. I know these variables, so I don’t need to take on the risk.”
“You mean you’re going to stop researching the Divine Beast?”
“Yes.”
The high priest became dizzy when he thought of the profits he had earned by selling Divine Beast for a large amount of money.
He was reluctant to end the nearly thousand years of history of the Divine Beast in his generation.
The reason the temple was able to accumulate so much wealth was because of the sale of Divine Beasts.
But there was no choice.
Rivena was not the type to warn of danger in the face of ambiguity, and if Rivena, a key researcher, were to take her hands off the Divine Beast, there would be virtually no way to stop her.
“In theory, it’s already finished, so the production itself won’t take long.”
Rivena spoke quickly as if to appease the high priest.
“Well, that’s good.”
He patted Rivena on the shoulder with a bitter smile.
“The war is going on too long.…It would be a problem if the ability to calm down disappeared from this world. There would be no one other than wizards who could resolve this mess.”
“It should be ready in three years at the earliest, five at the most once we’re done with clinical trials. Rather than that….”
Rivena still spoke in an anxious voice.
“I feel a little uneasy…Because it wasn’t handled directly at the temple.”
She pushed up her glasses as if she was anxious.
“It’s a little bit sad that it was bitten to death by a hunting dog on the day I went to retrieve it…Rivena. It’s a very good quality for a scientist to be skeptical of everything, but you don’t have to be too worried.”
The high priest continued to comfort her with a kind smile.
“I think Ella did something because she didn’t want to leave any regrets. In any case, she feels uneasy about it too.”
Rivena nodded slowly as if she had no choice. The high priest continued speaking casually.
“And I told you, the normal divine beast doesn’t have a strong will to become human. So you don’t have to worry too much.”
* * *‘This is the space I dreamed of.’
I thought as I rolled around in the room that Mariel had prepared for me.
‘I knew she was kind, but I didn’t know she was this foolish. What should I do about the real Duke Medes?’
Mariel was already fixated on the word ‘abuse’ and decided never to send me to the Duke of Hyrad.
She even made me an amazing room.
There was a delightful box of sawdust, a model of a tree, a mountain of acorns and chestnuts, and several fluffy cushions.
‘It’s on a whole different level from what I was experiencing in Tezen’s room.’
If life is like this, I don’t mind living like a squirrel for the rest of your life…
I quickly slapped myself before the thought of being lazy could creep in.
‘I’m human. Come to your senses. We have to humanize ourselves somehow.’
The temple emphasized that ‘the divine beast does not have a strong will to become human.’
Mariel said that she found similar content in a book on the divine beast that she had looked up.
But strangely enough, from the moment I was possessed, I really wanted to become human.
It would be strange if the temple was lying.
‘If there’s some secret about me, it must be connected to the temple. After all, they tried to kill me for no reason. I must somehow trace the connection to the temple.’
In the original story, I would have died when the temple came looking for Tezen’s squirrel.
I must have disappeared like that.
‘Even if I succeed in becoming human, I must always be on guard against the temple. They might come looking for me and kill me.’
Yohan told me not to worry and that he would somehow resolve it, but honestly, I wish he would just take care of himself.
‘Anyway, this family is slowly going to fall apart.’
I just ate acorns while recalling the information from the original story.
‘Mariel did not make good use of the duke’s enormous wealth and fame. She’s kind and pretty, but she has no political power and no talent for tricks.’
Duchess Sienna was weak and continued to become weak, and passed away shortly after the war ended.
Even her maternal uncle, Count Jaden, who had been helping her so hard, was poisoned around the same time.
It was Mariel who had been used here and there before, so the Duke of Medest family, who lost all the adults who helped her, became more and more unstable.
In the end, she was disturbed by Yohan who returned from the battlefield.
So, she has a hard time connecting with the crown prince, with whom she has shared her heart since childhood and even a wicked woman appears to interfere with her love.
‘Tsk tsk, if there had been even one talented person like me, Medes wouldn’t have fallen so far.’
As I was rolling around in my room, the door opened wide and Mariel came in.
“Blackie!”
But when I look at Mariel’s face, I start to think that incompetence isn’t a sin.
It was breathtakingly beautiful.
Of course, her incompetence was consistent, so much so that she didn’t even have the ability to name things.
“I’m back…You know, today was a bit tough.”
Mariel hugged me and leaned back against the sofa.
“Eredes said that they can’t pay taxes this time either. Everyone is having a hard time during the war, so I can’t refuse.…”
‘Ugh, this fool…’
I can’t believe they haven’t even received taxes from the Eredes for several years. While they continue to deploy troops to protect them.
I took a deep breath and headed toward the fireplace. Pretend to cut down a tree.
“Ugh.”
It was so hot that I pretended to wipe away the sweat.
“Kyung.”
Finally, I made an X with my arm to indicate that it was unnecessary.
Mariel looked at me quietly and then said.
“Eredes is a hot region so it doesn’t need firewood, so there must be an abundance of trees, so you want them to pay taxes with it?”
That’s amazing. I nodded proudly.
It was a completely different level of communication with Yohan.
Yohan could barely understand, but Mariel understood it perfectly.
“Ugh.”
Mariel came to me and hugged me tightly.
“Oh my god, Blackie. Why are you so smart?”
“Kyuung.”
Mariel is too kind, but she’s not terribly incompetent. At least she understands what I’m trying to say. That’s all that matters.
“Will you listen to my other concerns?”
Just say it.
“Kyung.”
If you do as you think, Medes will fail.
I don’t need the Duke of Medest to prosper, but I wanted to return the favor
“Kyuuung.”
While Mariel was lost in thought, I placed my forepaw on her forehead and took in her refined magic power.
In fact, the reason I came to the Duke of Medest was because of Mariel’s magic.
Since I could no longer absorb Yohan’s magical power, I had to go find another master of magical power.
During the last mealtime, I discovered that there was an incredible amount of magical power within Mariel that didn’t need calming down.
So I came to Mariel to gradually absorb magical power over 50 days.
“Kyung.”
Avoiding the eyes of the temple, and unaware that her own power was being calmed, Mariel gave me her power.
And she didn’t even put the Medes’ seal on me.
‘It means that after becoming human, I can go out and live freely.’
Since Mariel is kind, maybe she’ll give me some clothes or a place to live.
“So, this is a social event.….young lady Orina put me in quite a difficult position this time…. ”
That’s how I ended up listening to Mariel’s worries. Most of them were ones I could provide solutions to.
The reason I couldn’t provide solutions to all of them was because Mariel was too kind to say anything bad.
‘She is the type of person who can never say no. Oh my god, I’m so pissed.’
But since she has such a kind personality and she treats me so well, I shouldn’t complain.

Anyway, life at the Medes’ house was pretty good.
My room was comfortable, and after a few days, I was able to freely roam around the spacious Medes Duke’s house.
‘Freedom is really good.’
I climbed trees, played with birds, and even climbed up buildings.
And then one day, out of curiosity, I climbed an ivy vine and scaled a wall and saw…
‘Huh? That person….’
I reached the window of the large room and stood there for a while, looking inside.
An old woman was seen leaning against the bed and sighing.
‘She is the Duchess of Medes.’
A person who cried while talking about her second daughter while eating at the Duke Hyrad’s house.
She was shedding tears as she touched something wrapped in cloth.
‘What is it?’
I squinted my eyes and looked closely. It was a handful of short, soft hair. It was light brown.
