Chapter 208: Chapter 208: I’m Here to Bargain
The shrill ring of a phone pierced through the early morning silence. Tony Stark groaned, barely opening his eyes to glance at the clock. It was five in the morning.
"Who the hell calls this early?" he muttered, fumbling for his phone. Last night had been exhausting—He'd managed barely half an hour of rest himself.
Swiping the phone angrily, Stark snapped, "This better be good."
"Tony, it's Bruce Banner," came the urgent reply. "Something big is happening. The military needs to prepare for war."
"War? What the hell are you talking about?" Stark sat up, suddenly wide awake. "Calm down and explain."
"It's Wakanda. The throne's been overthrown, and the new king—he's planning something massive. He wants to arm the oppressed and avenge every colonial atrocity."
Stark froze for a moment, then exploded. "Damn it! Pepper, stay home! Don't go anywhere!" Without waiting for a reply, he jumped into his armor, rushing out the door.
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, the sky darkened unnaturally, a heavy weight pressing on the city below. Doctor Strange hovered in midair, his cloak billowing as he squared off against Kaecilius. The battle of Kamar-Taj magic was nearing its peak, reality bending and shifting around them.
Above, a massive crack tore through the sky, emitting waves of dark energy. Dormammu's presence loomed, threatening to consume the world.
Strange turned his gaze toward the distance, where a dozen Wakandan fighter planes approached. Their timing couldn't have been worse. His spell had frozen time for every mortal in the city—except for those pilots, who had arrived too late.
The Wakandan planes closed in, their pilots unaware of the impending danger. The dark energy lashed out like tendrils, engulfing the fighter jets in seconds. They disintegrated into ash, their remains scattering in the void. Back in Wakanda, more than a dozen flight crew members collapsed unconscious, their minds severed by the abrupt destruction.
Strange barely had time to process the loss. Wong and Mordo stood at his side, watching helplessly. "This is bad," Strange muttered. "The strongest Avenger isn't here. Even if he was, we'd still be outmatched."
He looked at the crack in the sky, his expression grim. With no other option, he took a deep breath and flew toward the abyss.
"Dormammu," Strange called out, his voice firm. "I'm here to bargain."
Dormammu's booming voice echoed, filled with disdain. "You're here to die."
Dark tendrils surged toward Strange, ripping through the fabric of reality. Pain tore through his body as the assault struck him down.
Moments later, Strange reappeared, his voice unwavering. "Dormammu, I'm here to bargain."
"You cannot stop me! No matter how many times you return, I will kill you over and over!"
"But others will be saved," Strange replied calmly.
Dormammu roared in fury, his voice shaking the void. "Damn you! Enough!"
In Wakanda's council hall, Erik Stevens sat tensely, surrounded by his advisors. "Your Majesty," a soldier reported, "the planes sent to Hong Kong have all gone silent. This is the last footage we received before the loss."
The screen flickered to life, revealing the chaos Dormammu had wrought. The council gasped at the sight of the planes disintegrating. Erik barely had time to register the images before a sharp pain tore through his mind. Vibranium-enhanced senses amplified the psychic blow, sending him to the floor.
When he finally recovered, Erik smashed the monitor in rage. "Forget Hong Kong," he snarled. "Our focus is Europe and the United States. That's where this begins."
Dormammu, meanwhile, was growing increasingly frustrated. Strange's persistence had pushed the dark entity to the edge of madness. "What do you want?" Dormammu roared. "Speak, and be done with it!"
Strange hovered calmly, unyielding in his resolve. "Leave Earth. Take your followers and never return. Stop spreading your corruption. Agree to this, and I will end the cycle."
Dormammu's face twisted with rage, but he couldn't deny the inevitable. He had no choice. Reluctantly, he agreed.
As the crack in the sky began to seal, Kaecilius and his followers cried out in horror. Their bodies deteriorated, consumed by the bargain Dormammu had made. Strange watched impassively as they were pulled into the abyss.
"My deal is complete," Strange murmured, descending to the ground. He glanced at Kaecilius, whose form was disintegrating. "You should've read the whole book. The warning was at the end of the spell."
