61. proof?
"Here it is. I hope I didn’t mess up too much."
Nika placed a sandwich-like meal comprised of a bun with grilled meat and vegetables as filling. Together with it, there were baked, sliced potatoes on the plate.
Julia and Nemi looked at the sandwich curiously. It was essentially just a normal sandwich, just thicker. As Julia took the sandwich in her hand, Nika observed her expression.
Julia took a deep breath and bit into the sandwich.
"It’s good."
Julia gave her honest impression and took another bite. Nika giggled at the sight, her head supported by her palms. Watching as the two girls ate their breakfast.
"I am happy that you are enjoying it. Though they are definitely worse than yours."
Despite complaining about her own cooking skills, she was smiling like a maiden in love. Nemi’s expression had morphed into a smug smile that said, obviously. Julia, though, didn’t have reason to complain.
"You still don’t remember, do you?"
Nika smiled sadly. Apparently, she had hoped that her sister’s favorite meal would awaken something in Julia. Unfortunately for her, that didn’t happen. So Julia just shook her head.
"How so… You even cried when you read your diary… you cried when you saw her."
Julia’s heart ached when Nika said that. Somehow, her mentioning that girl in the picture made her feel like she had lost purpose, as if nothing had any meaning anymore.
"I couldn’t read a single thing; it was just gibberish to me, and that picture, well… my eyes just teared up."
Julia explained herself. Nika looked down at her hand sadly. Apparently, hearing that Julia didn’t remember what she claimed was their past had hurt her to the core.
"It’s awful you don’t remember me, but that you don’t remember her… what did they do to you?"
Without warning, Nika hugged Julia tightly as tears rolled from her eyes. After crying on Julia’s shoulder, Nika looked accusatively at Nemi. Then she shook her head and forced a smile.
"It’s okay, though, you will get your memories back soon enough."
With her stained, forced smile, Nika leaned in and kissed Julia’s forehead. Nemi looked on before she couldn’t endure it anymore.
"What memories are you even talking about?! she doesn’t know you; she never did!"
Nemi trembled angrily as she balled her hand into the fist. Julia and Nika were both taken aback by Nemi’s sudden outburst. Nemi didn’t seem to be done, though.
"You are just a delusional freak kidnapping a princess. No matter what you say, she isn’t your sister!"
Nemi glared hatefully at Nika. She was trembling all over, but she felt as if a whole mountain had fallen off her heart. Julia was also glad that Nemi was angry for her, but she started to get overcome by worry. After all, Nika quite literally holds their lives in her hands.
"Do you think that I am unable to recognize my own sister?"
Nika’s head slowly turned to face Nemi, sounding like a badly oiled machine. Giving Nemi the coldest look Julia had seen in her life. Nemi, though, didn’t seem to care.
"Hmp, exactly. You were perfectly capable of thinking that my Julia is your sister."
Nemi crossed her arms over her chest, a confident expression plastered on her face. Julia was meanwhile sweating bullets. She was too worried about the outcome of Nemi’s confrontation with Nika to notice that Nemi had called her hers.
"You little…"
Nika clenched her fist, bearing her fangs all the while. She almost looked like a wolf about to pounce on her prey, ready to tear it to bits. While Julia was ready to faint, Nemi looked unfazed.
"If she were your sister, surely you would know a lot about her. But you don’t, do you?"
Nemi smirked. sure of her victory and peerless argument. Now, see the error of your ways and beg Julia for forgiveness on your knees and hands.
"Is that so?"
To Nemi’s surprise, Nika smirked as she spoke. Her voice was as calm as a spring within a deep forest.
"But how could I possibly prove to know something about my dear sister, I wonder?"
Nika put a finger to her cheek in an exaggerated manner, essentially mocking Nemi.
"Hmm, would perhaps saying that she enjoys spicy food and likes darker colors be proof? Or perhaps that she always turns from side to side, rubs her legs together, and then falls asleep making cat paws with her hand like this?"
Nika posed a little while making a cat paw with her hands. All the while smirking. I am not doing that, am I? Julia looks on, blushing from embarrassment, as she looks at Nemi for reaction. Please tell me she is wrong.
"How… do you know that?
Nemi looked shocked as Nika’s grin just got wider. Julia covered her face, wishing that she could disappear. Ideally, to a different planet. Once Julia decided she was collected enough, she uncovered her face and noticed that, for some reason. Nika had a look of nostalgia on her face, while she still maintained her pose.
"Am I really sleeping like that?"
Julia turned to Nemi, her voice nervous. Nemi snapped from her shook and smiled at her.
"I think it's adorable."
Nemi giggled. Julia only wished that the floor would open under her and she would be able to disappear. Blushing Julia turned away from Nemi.
"There is no way that would be the case... I can’t possibly look like that."
Julia mumbled quietly. Lowering her gaze down in an attempt to hide her embarrassment. Nemi smiled as she looked at her.
"That was one of the many reasons I always asked to sleep in your room. It was the only way to see my beloved sister being cute."
At some point, Nika had come back to earth with her hands behind her back. Smiled brightly at Julia, standing less than a meter from her face. than she turned to face Nemi.
"Is that enough proof for you?"
Nika looked coldly at Nemi. Seemingly trying to kill Nemi with her gaze alone.
"Well… I guess you know her enough, but there is still no way; you two are sisters!"
Nemi pointed her finger at Nika accusingly. Nika frowned and embraced Julia.
"It's not like what you think matters. If my sister didn’t care about you, I would have already turned you to ash."
Nika’s cheerful voice as she snuggled against Julia before being pushed away Was completely unfitting for the casual death treatment she used.
"And besides."
Nika continued.
"You can see the similarity between us, can’t you? I know all there is to know about my sister, including her sizes."
"Th-there is no way you know that!"
Nemi yelled out at Nika’s casual proclamation. Nemi was confident that there was no way she would know something like that; after all, Julia herself had no idea. This girl couldn’t possibly-
"70-61-72 cm. I believe."
Not seeing any sight of disagreement from Julia. Nika had announced Julia’s supposed sizes. Nemi’s jaw dropped, she hadn’t expected that someone would just announce something like that. But she refused to be defeated. From who knows where she procured a tape meter. And proceeded to measure Julia. Julia, being curious, hadn’t stopped her.
"Tsk, exactly."
Nemi clicked her tongue as she finished measuring Julia’s body. See? Nika asked with her eyes. She then sat down on a chair, crossed her legs, and faced Julia with a kind smile.
"You don’t have to believe me now. I know you will remember at some point. So why don't you go back to rest for a bit? I am sure your pet is missing you."
Nika spoke with a kind, sweet tone of voice. Julia looked at Nemi, and she nodded back at her. With a sigh, Julia, accompanied by the cat maid, walked out of the room.
Nemi watched as her friend left her alone with Nika. The reason she was okay with this, was because she noticed a challenge in Nika’s eyes when their eyes met.
"I can see that you have feelings for my sister."
"And so, if I have?"
Nemi crossed her arms, not letting Nika’s cold tone of voice intimidate her. The two girls stared each other down.
