Ch-4: Darkness Approaches

The room was silent, save for the soft whispers of the wind outside. Koneka stood before me, her golden hair shimmering faintly in the low light, her silver eyes wide with confusion. Her voice trembled as she asked, "Host, what do you mean by that? Do you not trust me?"

I sighed, my eyes never leaving her. "Koneka, you know I have trust issues," I replied, my voice calm but firm. "Just because I don't fully trust you doesn't mean I doubt your intentions."

"But Host, I really can tell you about this ability! Please, believe me!" Koneka's voice grew more desperate, but there was a glimmer of sadness in her silver eyes.

I chuckled softly, a bitter edge to my laugh. "Hahahaha, Koneka! You know Ling and Ming are with me. They know my personality and have witnessed my suffering at the hands of the protagonist and the heroines. They've seen me cry blood, losing my positive emotions. What have you seen that compares? I'll also tell you that they saw how I was betrayed by the protagonist—my love, my trust, all shattered—and how he killed me over and over."

"But, Host—" Koneka began to protest, but her words were cut off by the simultaneous outburst of Ming and Ling, who had been silently watching from their positions.

"Koneka, SHUT UP!" they shouted in unison.

Ling's voice was icy, her expression hard as she added, "Koneka, you don't know anything about the Host, so please don't try to convince him to do something he doesn't want to."

Ming, usually the quieter one, chimed in with a growl, "Koneka, don't make me hate the heroines and want to kill the protagonist even more."

I glanced at Koneka, my voice softening. "I know what you want, Koneka. You want to use me to destroy the protagonist's chances of becoming overpowered and make the heroines turn on him. But the truth is... they're more heartless than any villain or villainess you could imagine. So don't force me into this. I am creating something within myself, something that could change everything. You need to trust me, just as I trust you."

Koneka's eyes widened slightly, her lips quivering as she spoke, "So, Host, you don't trust me forever?"

I placed a hand on her shoulder, a gesture of reassurance. "I trust you fully, Koneka. But I don't trust your ability to manipulate my inner voice to communicate with all the heroines. Please, understand that."

There was a long silence before she finally nodded, her eyes filled with a mix of sadness and acceptance. "I see... I won't try to push you. I'll wait until you're ready."

As the tension in the room lifted, I let out a breath I didn't realize I had been holding. The night was far from over, but the storm of emotions that had been brewing within me seemed to subside, at least for the time being.

With a wave of my hand, I dismissed Koneka. "Go, get some rest. We'll talk more when the time comes."

Koneka bowed her head and slowly disappeared into the shadows, her golden hair flickering like a wisp of smoke before vanishing entirely. I was left alone with my thoughts, my mind heavy with the weight of everything that was yet to come.

---

The morning sun had barely risen when I felt the familiar presence of my maid, Ah Ming, approaching. She entered the room, a soft smile on her face, but there was a hint of concern in her eyes as she greeted me.

"Master, good morning! Today's breakfast is blueberry pancakes and black coffee with fruit salad," she said, her tone gentle and respectful. Ah Ming, or Ming'er as I liked to call her, had been with me for years. She was loyal, never wavering in her dedication to me, and I trusted her more than anyone. She had died saving me once, and for that, I would never forget her.

I nodded, giving her a small smile in return. "Thank you, Ming. I'll eat it here."

As she placed the breakfast before me, I made my request. "Please take out my black Lamborghini sports car edition and paint all my cars the darkest black."

Ming'er didn't flinch at the unusual request. She was accustomed to my whims. "Okay, Master! I will take care of that quietly." She hesitated for a moment before continuing, "Oh, and the old mistress called for you to come to the Tang Mansion. She wants you to meet your fiancée and discuss your marriage to the elder daughter of the Tang family."

I raised an eyebrow, my expression unreadable. The Tang family... I had heard of them. They were powerful, influential, and dangerous in their own right. The idea of being tied to them through marriage made my skin crawl, but I knew it was inevitable. Family obligations could never be ignored, no matter how much I despised the concept of being forced into such a union.

"Alright, tell Mom to send me the timing," I said, my voice calm, though my mind was already preparing for the inevitable confrontation. "Until then, I'll be busy with my work."

Zing'er, as I affectionately called her, blushed slightly at the mention of my work. Her loyalty and devotion were evident, and it was clear she held a special place in her heart for me. "Is there anything else I can do for you, Master?"

I shook my head, offering her a soft smile. "No, Ming. I'll handle it from here."

As she left, I took a deep breath and looked out the window. The sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting long shadows across the room. A sense of foreboding filled the air, as if the world itself was holding its breath.

Darkness was approaching, and I could feel it in the depths of my soul. My enemies, my allies, and even those I once called friends—none of them would escape the storm that was coming. This was only the beginning.
