Chapter 17 - Buying clothes
Having earned a significant amount of money this time, Qin Nan was all smiles.
“Wifey, let’s go and shop,” Qin Nan said confidently.
“Okay.”
After rolling up the long cloth spread on the ground, the two left the spot and headed toward the shops along the street.
They first purchased daily necessities—oil, salt, sauces, and vinegar, as well as pots, plates, and bowls. All the items were conveniently stored inside Shangguan Rouyue’s Sleeve of Secrets, making carrying them effortless.
Soon, they had bought all the necessities, including the items requested by the auntie back home.
In the past, even if he had the money, he couldn’t have bought so much due to the difficulty of transporting everything.
But now, with both money and Shangguan Rouyue’s sleeve that could hold an unlimited number of items, there was no need to worry about transport. They could buy as much as they wanted without hesitation.
This was the most extravagant shopping spree Qin Nan had ever had during his numerous visits to Yangshun City.
With all the daily necessities purchased and still plenty of time left in the day, the two arrived at a clothing shop—probably the best in Yangshun City. Rows of luxurious silks and vibrant fabrics were on display.
“We should get you a few more beautiful outfits. What do you say, wifey? If you like makeup or perfumes, feel free to pick whatever you want—your husband will cover the bill,” Qin Nan said confidently.
Shangguan Rouyue nodded lightly. She didn’t say much, but her gaze gave away her thoughts.
What woman doesn’t like beautiful clothes or adorning herself to look stunning?
Although Qin Nan had recently gifted Shangguan Rouyue a new dress, one was far from enough.
Moreover, while the auntie’s handiwork was decent for their home village of Niujiao, it paled in comparison to the craftsmanship found in Yangshun City. The dresses she made, while pretty by village standards, couldn’t compete with those worn by the city girls.
Still, Shangguan Rouyue’s exceptional beauty made even ordinary clothes appear strikingly elegant.
The shop offered seasonal new arrivals, all professionally crafted and far superior to homemade garments.
Shangguan Rouyue didn’t hold back and quickly selected a few outfits she liked.
Qin Nan, however, wasn’t browsing for outerwear. Instead, he said slyly, “Wifey, this piece of lingerie looks great, and this belly pocket(traditional Chinese undergarment) is fantastic too.”
Shangguan Rouyue shot him a glare. Her husband was truly shameless—how could he say such things with a straight face?
What made it worse was that there were others in the shop, yet he openly picked out lingerie and even sought her opinion on it.
To make matters worse, the pieces he chose were thin and rather revealing.
It wasn’t hard to guess what was on his mind. Shangguan Rouyue’s face turned crimson, and she remained silent.
Qin Nan chuckled sheepishly, taking her silence as tacit approval. He went ahead and purchased the selected lingerie and belly pockets.
Although he wanted to buy her more clothes, the garments here weren’t cheap. Despite earning a good sum from selling medicine, his funds were limited.
The money pouch was now nearly empty.
He had originally planned to buy her some makeup as well, but it seemed that would have to wait for another day.
From now on, I need to make more money. Otherwise, even if I want to dress my wife beautifully, I won’t be able to do it.
As they left the clothing shop, they encountered a lecherous man.
The young man, who had a horse-like face, wore extravagant clothes and was followed by two attendants.
It was clear at a glance that he was a wealthy young master from some prominent family.
The horse-faced man ogled Shangguan Rouyue lecherously and began to make inappropriate remarks.
This type of person, a frequent offender, likely relied on his family’s influence to behave with impunity.
Unfortunately for him, this time he had run into someone he shouldn’t have.
With a wave of her sleeve, Shangguan Rouyue unleashed an invisible blade that instantly killed the horse-faced man.
It was quick, clean, and decisive.
The two attendants were shocked. They hadn’t expected Shangguan Rouyue to be a cultivator, let alone one who acted so ruthlessly.
When they regained their senses, they shouted threats, saying that killing their young master meant she wouldn’t leave Yangshun City alive.
“Annoying,” Shangguan Rouyue said coldly.
Her words struck like thunder. The two attendants spat blood and were left half-dead on the spot.
Even if they survived, they’d likely be crippled.
“You, which sect are you from? Do you know the consequences of killing a member of the Li family?”
A man dressed as a cultivator appeared before them, glaring at Shangguan Rouyue and questioning her harshly.
The horse-faced man’s surname was Li, and his family wielded significant influence, even employing cultivators.
“You don’t deserve to know. Leave now if you don’t want to die,” Shangguan Rouyue replied disdainfully.
The man wasn’t easily intimidated and attacked, only to be instantly killed by her.
Not long after, three more cultivators came to seek vengeance.
All were swiftly slain by Shangguan Rouyue.
Before long, more than twenty cultivators came knocking, accusing Shangguan Rouyue of being a demonic cultivator and killing the innocent.
Shangguan Rouyue also killed them all.
“Who are you to act so recklessly in Yangshun City?”
An elder in a long robe, dignified in demeanor, appeared before them. Though he didn’t launch an outright accusation, his expression and gaze were anything but friendly.
“Are you here to seek death as well?” Shangguan Rouyue responded coldly without answering.
“I am Wei Yanxin, a member of the local government. Though I hold no official title, I am trusted by the city lord. Upon hearing that a cultivator was slaughtering people indiscriminately in Yangshun City, I came to intervene,” the elder stated.
Wei Yanxin, even the ignorant Qin Nan had heard of this name. He was the strongest in Yangshun City, with his cultivation having reached the Spirit Building Realm.
With Wei Yanxin presiding, few cultivators dared to act unruly in Yangshun City.
That such a prominent figure would arrive so quickly left Qin Nan unsure if his wife could handle the situation.
Though he knew his wife was immensely powerful, the extent of her strength was beyond Qin Nan’s current comprehension.
However, his concerns were unfounded.
“Since you are part of the government and have not committed evil, I will spare your life. I do not kill indiscriminately—these people sought death themselves,” Shangguan Rouyue said calmly.
“Do you think saying that will… What?!” Wei Yanxin’s expression shifted abruptly to one of alarm. His previously proud demeanor as an elder vanished entirely, replaced with unease.
“Who are you? Such a powerful divine sense,” Wei Yanxin asked cautiously.
“You are unworthy of knowing. Now answer me—do you still intend to trouble me? If so, bear the consequences,” Shangguan Rouyue stated flatly.
“I dare not trouble you, Immortal. Please forgive me!” Wei Yanxin knelt on one knee, his expression full of fear and respect.
“Very well, you may leave,” Shangguan Rouyue said.
“Thank you for sparing my life, Immortal. The Li family offended you first; I will report everything truthfully to the city lord,” Wei Yanxin said hastily, scrambling to leave as quickly as possible. He dared not stay a moment longer, even if it meant being ridiculed for cowardice.
An Immortal was someone he could never afford to provoke.
The title “Immortal” was merely something Wei Yanxin uttered out of respect, as he had no way of gauging Shangguan Rouyue’s exact cultivation. He only knew it far surpassed his own.
The tense atmosphere dissolved completely.
“Let’s go, hubby. There shouldn’t be any more trouble.”
As she looked at Qin Nan, her once cold and indifferent face instantly softened into a warm and tender expression, her eyes full of affection. The sudden shift in demeanor was almost startling.
“Wifey, you’re amazing,” Qin Nan said sincerely.
“You’re not teasing me, are you?” Shangguan Rouyue asked.
“How could I be? I love how you’re tough with others but gentle with me. It makes me feel so accomplished,” Qin Nan replied proudly.
Though she didn’t fully understand what he meant by “accomplished,” as long as her hubby was happy, that was enough for her.
