Chapter 67 – Consequences.
[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
"What are you saying?!" A man with white hair growled, not appearing old, just a middle-aged man with unique platinum hair.
Facing him was an old house-elf, one that belonged to the Malfoys, coming to deliver news when another house-elf appeared on the property requesting a summons from his master.
"The Dark Lord wants an urgent meeting, most of the wizards who went to Hogsmeade are dead, and the few that survived are being taken to Azkaban," the elf said, trembling in fear of Lord Malfoy's wrath. "The Death Eaters are all being summoned." He spoke before his eyes opened wide, glowing as they reflected the green spell that flew towards him at that moment.
Abraxas Malfoy watched his house-elf be killed by the killing curse that struck him, infuriated that his subordinates had fallen in battle. People he had instructed to follow his orders like soldiers of the Malfoys, who he had made available for Voldemort to launch a first attack in Hogsmeade.
"How were they killed?!" It was a blow against the power of the family, he exclaimed with rage and looked at the body of the dead elf before sighing and leaving his room, picking up a dark cloak and heading to the meeting of the Death Eaters.
This man was a strong adherent of the pure-blood ideology, the Malfoys always a family that taught to be strict to those involved, the family tradition was to hold high positions in magical society and a lofty name, Abraxas himself had managed to remove Noby Leach with a dark scheme from his position, the first wizard of Muggle origin to assume the highest office within the Ministry of Magic.
He donned the black cloak with the skull mask, and disappeared the next moment, while he was in a completely dark setting as they met in an old castle.
There were dozens of people like Abraxas dressed as Death Eaters, looking at the table, while they talked to each other about the incident in Hogsmeade, almost 60 dark wizards had been taken from their ranks by someone unknown that even the Ministry of Magic couldn't explain what happened.
"They were all killed!"
"My uncle, he's an auror, he informed that everyone was eliminated by blade cuts, can you believe that?"
"Like how those Muggles used to fight in old times?!"
"This is absurd."
"Who did this, I heard it was just one person!"
"We should kill him, whoever it is, he's a threat!"
"How could he go against the Dark Lord!"
"Silence."
The last to speak was the hooded man at the end of the table, while everyone immediately fell silent and their eyes turned to the table's direction.
"No point in complaining at this moment," Voldemort spoke calmly while no one else even breathed just for him to talk.
"I want to know exactly who did this, there shouldn't be anyone with such great ability to eliminate several wizards in battles... I want to know exactly who this person is," he spoke directly.
"This will be done, Dark Lord," one of the Death Eaters spoke, there were at least 30 of them, they were the main members of the cause, with high positions throughout magical society, loyal to their lord's cause.
"You speak as if you were competent..." Voldemort mocked. "Have you discovered the identity of the opposing stranger selling potions?" The Dark Lord himself was interested in the mysterious man who was finding out who was inserting a large amount of potions into the market.
"This will soon be found, Dark Lord," the same Death Eater said. This man was one of the heads of the great families probably, where only Death Eaters had the requirement of being from the great families.
"I'll be waiting for results and I hope this time you won't disappoint me," Voldemort mocked before a snake appeared on his shoulder, showing its fangs to everyone there and disappeared, the next moment with a pop.
The Death Eaters there, finally began to breathe again, almost no one stayed as they started to leave to handle their own matters or even help the Dark Lord in the search for this wizard.
"Abraxas... are you okay?" One of the Death Eaters who stayed at the location, looked at Abraxas cautiously.
"What do you think, I was one of those who sent the most soldiers on the mission, trying to ensure that a certain student was captured," Abraxas commented with a tired tone.
"I know... the Rosier family also suffered a huge loss... I heard that while you wanted to capture a fifth-year student, Mrs. Rosier spared no effort in sending people to kill him," the man said, looking at Abraxas with surprise.
"Yes... but now there's nothing to be done... new students will be trained this year, I'll try to recruit a few more to work for the Malfoy family," he said.
"Your son is graduating this year... do you intend to place him under the Death Eaters?" the man asked.
"Yes, that is his duty. So, he will work with me starting next year... and speaking of which," Abraxas remembered this man had significant connections and owned an auction house. "I'll need to buy another house-elf for my family. Will you have any?" he asked with interest.
"Well... it's difficult to get some this year, but we managed to get a young one for two weeks from now, you can show up, but it will be on the black market, so come masked and I will send an invitation as soon as the day arises," the man spoke, and Abraxas nodded as they finally disappeared from that hideout.
The situation was far from pleasant for Hogwarts, as this attack ended up being a scandal without precedent, with newspapers reporting the attack on the dead students and the lack of defense at Hogwarts.
The director ended up engaging in several interviews after all the bodies were cleared, explaining the situation while the reporters were quite active in trying to corner him, after all the questions were about why he wasn't at the school when the attack started, how the school had such weak defense, or who was the person who had eliminated dozens of dark wizards so brutally and horrendously in front of the students and no one could say who this person was.
"Where were you, Director?!" This question kept repeating.
"I was called to go to the north of England about an issue concerning dark activity, never imagining it was a distraction to attack the school," Albus Dumbledore answered.
"Do you believe you will remain as director after this attack?" another wizard reporter asked.
"I see no reason to step down, despite the tragic events, Hogwarts is still fine, we will just prohibit leaving the school in the coming weeks," he spoke calmly.
"But was this because of the strange wizard who appeared and started killing the dark wizards, if it wasn't for him, could Hogwarts also have been attacked?" another reporter asked.
"I assure you that Hogwarts will never be attacked," Dumbledore responded.
"Do you have any idea who this person might be?" another question was asked.
"No, but we will find out soon," Dumbledore said.
This went on for a while until the director left to talk with the Aurors to help them with the investigation.
Meanwhile, at the school, the atmosphere was extremely somber, as dozens of coffins were being loaded onto carriages with Thestrals in front, after identifying who the fallen bodies were, they were being sent to their families.
Hundreds of students were looking at the situation with defeated eyes. Many of them were crying, while others had sad expressions. There, among the dead, were friends, siblings, and lovers, who were now lost among all those bodies. It was a very sad situation, many now saw Thestrals for the first time, witnessing the death of those students in Hogsmeade.
The Slytherin students watched this with a more composed demeanor, but also with a slight somber look, not because of the students—at least most didn't care about the Muggle-born students from other houses—but because of the news that no dark wizard survived the attack. Someone appeared and exterminated all of them.
The teachers were taking care of everything, equally sad while some cried placing more and more coffins with their wands, being placed until the last one entered the carriage and they started to leave, going to the train where they would be taken to their families all over England. A very sad event, with parents receiving their children this way after the news had already been issued by the school.
In the end, all the students returned to their dormitories by order of the house heads. The school gathered in the common hall a few hours later while the students still cried and were sad, not feeling like eating the food in front of them.
Many of them looked with hatred at the Slytherin table, while those seated there didn't seem to care much, continuing to converse among themselves as if trying to figure out who had done that to the dark wizards.
At a moment when the place maintained low conversations, the director, surrounded by professors with somber looks, stood up, drawing everyone's attention as he tapped his spoon against his glass.
He looked around for a moment, before sighing and beginning. "Students, I am well aware of how you feel," he started. "Unfortunately, this has happened and we cannot turn back time to have prevented such an atrocity, but I will ensure that this never happens to any student again." He spoke with a firm tone. "You will be protected while you are within these doors, I guarantee it. But from today, I decree that no one will leave the school for Hogsmeade on weekends." He said, as in these delicate times, they could not afford to leave the school.
He spoke as most of the students nodded in understanding, while the Slytherin students frowned, as they too would be affected by this, unable to do anything but keep these thoughts to themselves.
"Secondly, we will suspend all classes for a week, while we allow Hogwarts to mourn. You will be permitted to visit your families." He spoke and moved his wand, as all the flags in the hall transformed into black banners. The students nodded and resumed eating after this.
As the director finished his speech, there was a Slytherin student looking at her peers while they avoided her gaze, searching for a specific person, but he was not there.
Snape was in the restricted section at this time, reading up on more things and reflecting on his fight, marking the positives and negatives of his first deadly magical battle. He had just finished and was returning to prepare more potions before going to sleep.
As he left the restricted section, passing through the common area of the library, he was almost surprised by a woman, coming out of one of the rows trying to stop him, "AHHH!!!" With a small feminine scream, which he did by instinct, catching her while he threw her against the bookshelves in a corner and pressed her there.
"What are you doing here... spying on me?" Snape glared at Bellatrix, as the woman growled at him being so close to her face.
"Go to hell, you bastard! You keep touching me!" She growled, while a shadow appeared on the other side of the corridor, hearing the sound of books falling and Bellatrix's scream, encountering a strange scene, after all in their view, it seemed like the two were caught kissing in the library as both turned their faces towards her. With her staring at them with wide eyes and running away from there.
"It was a Hufflepuff student! A gossip, on top of that. If she says anything, I'll kill her, I swear!" Bellatrix growled.
"Can you stop threatening others and tell me exactly what you want? Haven't I returned your wand for that horrible kiss of yours?" Snape said with a dissatisfied tone.
"What did you say?! You're saying my kiss is horrible?! You bastard!" She shouted furiously at Snape.
"Who is shouting in the library!!" Librarian Prince exclaimed from her desk, looking towards the bookshelves at that moment, standing up and going to see who was making the noise.
"Tsk." Snape saw this and quickly transformed into a shadow, while Bellatrix also teleported, falling on top of Snape's bed, as he stood looking at her with his arms crossed.
"You dare throw me like that?!" Even without understanding how Snape does this, she was certainly infuriated by being treated like that.
"Just shut up and tell me what you want, otherwise, leave through that door and go to your room." Snape had no patience for this madwoman.
"..." Of course, Bellatrix looked at him with as much anger as she could muster, Snape was at the top of her list of people she most wanted to torture, but what could she do with him after everything she had witnessed. Swallowing her pride, she looked at him seriously. "Tell me how you did all that in Hogsmeade!?" She asked. Despite being angry, she was still curious about what she saw after following Snape causing the first deaths of the dark wizards.
