After barely a moment of hesitation the door swung open, revealing a familiar looking woman, with green robes on, looking at us all, it looked for a moment for my mind to connect her to McGonagall, the movie depictions of these people are throwing me off.

"The First Years, Professor McGonagall!"

"Yes, thank you Hagrid, I'll take them from here!" And with that the two doors opened all the way to reveal the main hall, it was incredibly massive in all dimensions.

Though we went lead into the great hall as we instead were directed in what seemed to be a side area.

"Welcome to Hogwarts! The start of term banquet will be starting soon, but before you take your seats in the great hall you'll be sorted into your houses. The sorting is a very important ceremony, your house will be like your family here at Hogwarts, you'll have classes with your house, sleep in your house's dormitory, and spend any free time in your house common room."

"The four houses are called: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house as it's own noble history and each has produced many great witches and wizards-"

She continued on but at that point I was bored as I already knew what she was talking about, so there wasn't much of a point listening to it all, she still went over stuff like the house points and the house cup and all that, but at this point I was mostly just looking around the hall I was in.

Though I did note that when she said to straighten up the best we could, she looked around at a few people, me included, though I think it was because of my lack of listening to the latter half of her speech. And with that she walked away.

"How exactly do they sort us into houses?" Glancing over towards Harry, I noted that he looked slightly unsure as to what he should be expecting to do.

"Some sort of test I think, Fred said it hurt a lot but I think he was joking." And Ron wasn't exactly helping here.

"A test? In front of the whole school?" I noted that Harry looked like he was close to mild panic now, probably from the fact that if he fails somehow in this not real test he'll get sent back to his idiotic family.

Looking at him for a moment, I finally let out a small sigh before saying to him.

"Oh stop panicking Harry, it probably isn't that complex for else I doubt most muggleborns would still be here, hell I doubt most wouldn't be here considering none of us should know practically any magic yet."

I noted that he, along with a surprising amount of people around me seemed to calm down a good bit.

Honestly kids worry for no reason, though maybe it's one of those insider knowledge things, nah, I doubt I would get this nervous about it even if I didn't know.

"Thanks Alex!" I just nodded, while moving my thoughts onto wondering what the sorting hat will think about my mind.

Though my thoughts were interrupted as suddenly a bunch of kids started screaming which was a really annoying sound.

Looking over, I noted that a bunch of ghost looking people were currently floating out of the back wall.

And by ghost looking, I mean that they are literally ghosts, which isn't that just an interesting thought, this place has an established afterlife that exists.

That's going to be interesting to look into at a later date, as I watched as they all didn't even seem to register that we were here as they all were talking about something, well more like arguing.

From what I picked up from over listening was it had to do something about Peeves the poltergeist that I half remembered from the books because the movies didn't have them in it.

After a bit though some seemed to notice though all they really said was just some encouragement to go to their own respected houses.

Which I think was a little counterproductive as all they were going to do was scaring the kids around me while I just looked at the translucent bodies and forms of the ghosts with mild interest about what they're actually made up of.

Though that's when McGonagall came back and shooed off the ghost and got everyone in a straight line and began to walk towards wherever we were headed.

Walking through a pair of double doors, I noted that we were now in the great hall, looking up at the ceiling while mostly ignoring the other students.

I noted the stuff I had already seen via movie format before.

I was more interested in the actual floating candles that somehow didn't seem to be melting, as no wax was dripping down hot hell on those underneath them.

And the sky, which I was already aware to be charmed to look like the outside was actually amazing to look at.

I've been to a few dark parks, where there is very minimal light pollution and this was of similar effect and look, but the difference was that there was light everywhere so it led to looking cool but strangely bizarre.

I noted that Hermione was muttering to herself about it and how she had read about it in a book called 'Hogwarts: A History.

I'm pretty sure it's a weird coping mechanism for her to recite facts she knows about to try and calm her nervousness. I noted that McGonagall had placed the sorting hat down on a stool a bit in front of us.

I wondered why everyone was looking at it for a second before I realized why as I watched as the brim opened up and a song came from it, of dear god, I forgot about this.
